I do. But, perhaps if it had come from you on its own, patiently and natural, it may have been better. Or had a deeper meaning to you yourself. Though, as is, it really is fine.

I agree with you there. It could have been better. Really, everytime I did a line, I kept trying to use my own style, but of course I had to stay within the guidelines, so that was out of the question. I may re-write it someday, but I think I will leave it as it is for now.

Dude... you know me and war/politics... man, this is the freaking BEST poem EVER. I love it. The meanings... the irony... it's so freaking awesome... I LOVE it... Rock on man. I think that maybe if you go back and rewrite it you might be able to make the words convey your message better. Go for it man. It rocks. The subject matter... 'tis the shiznite in the words of our Master Shake... Praise be to the father, the son, and the holy shake. haHA

Thank you *bows* thank you very much. I will rewrite eventually without the structure. Do you think I should keep the repeating first line? I may just leave it for some odd reason.

Certainly. I actually like the structure. If you feel it would be better without it, then go for it. But yes, you should keep the repitition... it adds emphasis. I think that all of us should each try a sestina... those things are a b***h to write... but when you've done it, you feel like a poetry GOD.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but could you explain what a sestina is, please?

Indeed, I think it would be better with less structure. Read the guidelines I used on page 3, near the bottom of the page I do believe.

Trust me Christophe... you want to look this one up... it's a b***h. Like, sixteen lines I think... TONS of rules. I'd just confuse you. If you have Todd-Paine, you WILL learn... oh, you'll learn... *shudders*

*enters the conversation also* I do also think it'd be nice for all of us to try a sestina. I believe it'd be very difficult (at least for some of us) but a good challenge. However, I wouldn't be able to do it anytime soon. I'm really busy lately (in the head) and I don't think I could come up with much. I've still been writing poetry, but something with such structure would just confuse me at this point. Maybe when my head clears and I have a little more time, I'll definitely. But I'd LOVE to read what you guys could achieve with such a format. Kudos to those that at least try!!

I'll look it up sometime and see what I come up with. I can't promise it will be pretty, but hey, why not?

This has nothing to do with that sestina in the last post. Just me rambling.

I could talk endlessly,
About your waves of brown hair.
Forever could I speak,
Of your enchanting brown eyes.
Long could I ramble on,
About your warm smile.

The fact remains the same,
None of that matters.
I find myself bewitched,
By something I cannot understand.
With every smile of your's I see,
I feel a grin forming on its own.
With every laugh,
I hear my own voice in unison.

When you cry,
I feel the tears form on me.
I want to hold you,
And say it will be ok.
I will always be there,
For good or bad.

The personality,
The behavior,
The heart,
The soul.
Together they make,
A being so sweet,
So pure,
So beautiful.

I confess on paper,
The words the voice cannot say.
Oh Amour tortures me so,
I tell you true,
That in the end,
I am in love with you.

Well, that is a more happy one.

Damn Christophe... you sure you aren't talking about me and Stephanie in this one? Haha, everything sounds SO like us... 'cept her eyes are more green than brown... (they be hazle for all those of you who don't know) Seriously though man, this makes me think of her... so I obviously have a bias which pretty much voids my opinion on this one, but I do like it. I'm going to go look up the guidelines for a sestina now. I'll post them here. mrgreen

Here it is. I've found it... and I TOLD you it was difficult.

Sestina
One of the most difficult and complex of the various French forms, the sestina is a poem consisting of six six-line stanzas and a three-line envoy. It makes no use of the refrain. This form is usually unrhymed, the effect of rhyme being taken over by a fixed pattern of end-words which demands that these end-words in each stanza be the same, though arranged in a different sequence each time.

If we take 1-2-3-5-6 to represent the end-words of the first stanza, then the first line of the second stanza must end with 6 (the last end-word used in the preceding stanza), the second with 1, the third with 5, the fourth with 2, the fifth with 4, the sixth with 3--and so to the next stanza. The order of the first three stanzas, for instance, would be: 1-2-3-4-5-6; 6-1-5-2-4-3; 3-6-4-1-2-5. The conclusion, or envoy, of three lines must use as end-words 5-3-1, these being the final end-words, in the same sequence, of the sixth stanza. But the poet must exercise even greater ingenuity than all this, since buried in each line of the envoy must appear the other three end-words, 2-6.

Good luck with that everyone!
