They actually never said what made him want to be a ninja, only that he was determined to be one. Maybe It leads to a greater mystery, of why he so strongly wants to be the best shinobi he can be. Myself, I think his parents were killed in some unnamed tragedy during the war between Leaf and cloud (with the obvious conclusion), maybe he was very young when something (I could say the Kyuubi) took the life of his parents. I can almost support my claim with a piece of several episodes, the parts were Lee was actually doing something, he has a very strong son complex about him, Take his relation with Gai, he sees him as a father figure. Or maybe he was ust another Orphan that dreamed a dream that was nearly taken away from him.

Golemeye Alkia You guys raise a good point but then, why do these two who are bugging Kakashi look exactly like Lee!!
Come on! Now don't these two look like a man and woman older version of Lee!!! O.o well, I think one at least is a woman.........I hope......
they loom like cosplayers what episode is that? Truer words could have never come quite like yours.

Truer words could have never come quite like yours. nooo nooo, they're both male, and this is an episode where they're trying to dress up like Gai and Lee to infiltrate the village. With hilarious results, considering the terrible terrible disguises!! They do act a little like Gai in the beginning, but they seem to be of no relation to him at all. I don't remember the episode number, it was one of the later filler episodes if I remember correctly...

ok heres my idea i think that either lee was an orphan and then taken in by gai when lee was 10. ether that or his parents dont like the camras lol jking. my other teory (sp) is that he has parents just that they dont show them kind of like tenten and some other characters (i cant think of the others @_@) oh & the episode w/ the 2 invading ppl is 161 i think. i saw it on youtube i laughed my head off watching it.

i would guess that lee's parents are not ninja and therefore were not thought to be exciting enough to be brought up in the anime after all if he was orphaned then i am sure it would mention it somewhere after all it mentions naruto's lack of parents every chance it gets but there is the possibility they are ninja after all kakashi hints that rock lee may have a certain quality to working hard because of his ability to achieve so much through hard work but maybe that is just kakashi's inability to understand the meaning of working hard after all he was a chuunin by the age of 6 he must have had loads of natural talent from his amazing father konoha's white fang!
