Marie nodded and walked away from the forest, putting hte crystal in her backpack as she did so. "Well...I want you to promis to got on if I fall back. I knwo thats not the friend thing the do, but you need this place far more then I do. I don't want you to fail because of me." She said, not looking her new friend in the face.

Lilly smiled at Marie. "Friends should respect each others wishes. I promise that I will continue if you are not in life threatening danger."

Maire nodded and smiled. "Thats the most I can hop for." She said and continued toward the castle. After about five minutes of walking they reached what looked to be the top of a hill. The steps down were uneven or jagged. At the bottem was a gate that led into the city and to the castle. Marie stopped and looked at Marie. "Ready?"

"As ready as I'll ever be." Lilly said, nodding.

Maire shrugged and then shook her head. "Eh I felt you sho-OOO!!!!!" the girl started before the grounded opened beneath her and she slid down the tounal. Don't bring me back to the begining! Don't bring me back to the begining! Please don't bring me back to the begining! She thought through her panic.

A door shifted and she slid out into what looked like a headge maze.

"MARIE!" Lilly yelled as her friend fell. Lilly was about to go after her when she remembered her promise to Marie. Sighing, Lilly turned and entered the Goblin City.

The bottom of the 'steps' was hidden under a pile of trash. She hopped off scattering a pile of trash all over the ground in the process.

"What a dump!" she said scrunching her nose.

Delos rolled his eyes. "Aye, tis a dump, Darkling. Come on then, this way."

He quickly swerved around the piles of trash and scrambled up an incline and into the undergrowth. He was breathing heavily, but more than anything he feared the snow. It burned his callous skin when he touched it.

"Damned king," he spat, "can't he leave well enough alone?"

Aven ducked under snow-laden evergreens. Beneath the forest's canopy they were protected from the snow. It would take some time before the trees began dropping loads of of the white stuff upon the decomposing floor. She heard Delos' grumblings and delicately picked her way over rotting logs and the like.

"You've got to be the only goblin who doesn't worship the ground Jareth walks on," she commented shaking the ice from the tattered umbrella and closing it. "What did he do to you?"

Delos frowned.

"Look at me," the goblin replied, "this is the king's handiwork. I'm not exactly pleased with this form would you be?"

He grunted and hobbled onward, crunching dried leaves beneath his sturdy boots.

"Plagued by his whims on everything from laws to weather, and to add insult to injury I'm to grovel and call him 'king' and 'yer majesty' for the rest of my days," he hissed angrily, "if I could just get my hands on a load of iron we'd see if he bleeds red."

"I don't suppose I'd like that very much," she mumbled to herself as she trailed after Delos, "I guess I never really stopped to think where all the goblins came from."

Aven became silent something was nagging at her. It was something the old goblin had said, something about...iron.

"It would take more than a sword for a goblin to defeat the king," she stated, "his magic is...very powerful. You'd be at his mercy the second he spots you, or senses you."

"Oh don't get me wrong," Delos said waving his hand dismissively, "there are plenty of goblins born as goblins. But very few remember what it's like to be anything other than a goblin. Tis no kindness to have memories of a brighter lifetime while trapped in this body."

He began tapping trees with his large arthritic knuckles listening to the sound carefully.

"Aye, it'd take more than a sword, but iron's the ticket," he croaked, "he can magick everything he wants except iron. It's deadly to fae and harmful to just about all things magical. A cut in the right spot, leave the dagger in, and let the metal corrode his black heart."

The scientist's eyes widened ever so slightly. It was so simple so mundane a weakness.

"'Iron is an insulator'..." she quoted from her notes, "that's why it kills him. It blocks of his magic, and without it fae can't live. Iron poisoning."

Her mind whirred and she became lost in deep pondering. Aven didn't notice Delos rapping until another nagging feeling poked at her mind.

"Delos...you weren't a child when you became a goblin were you?" she asked, "Who were you?"
