She hesitated for a moment, and kissed Nobu on the cheek.
Slowly, she put him down, and he turned to look up at Morgan.
She took a deep breath.
"Nobu, this is a very old friend of mine. His name is Morgan."
calmly, Nobu smiled and shook his hand.
"Pleased to meet you. My name is Nobu."

He kneeled down and smiled at Nobu. He shook his hand in turn.
"You're quite the polite one, aren't you?"

He grinned widely, showing a few missing teeth.
"Lunel says manners are important."

He laughed softly.
"That's right, don't wanna turn out like my grouchy friend, right?"
He stood and looked at Lunel.
"You've raised him well. Don't let Lotus get near him. Ever. Nathan and I will always be around if you need us."
He began to walk away, knowing everything he needed.

She took Nobu's hand.
"And just like that, youre going to leave?"

He stopped and looked up at the sky.
"For us to stay too close to you is dangerous to you and him. There's something around here that's killed one of our brothers today, and his partner is missing. Your eyes tell me you've forgotten the ways of war, Lunel."
He turned to face her.
"For us to be close to you if and when something attacks is far too risky, and a chance I'm not willing to take. We will be in contact, though. Count on it."

She clenched her fist, resisiting the urge to punch him in the face.
Instead, she ignored him, and set off down the street towards their home, leading Nobu, who turned back to stare at Morgan, a look of concentration on his face, as if trying to recall an old memory.

He nodded at Nobu and waved, before turning and walking away.
As long as Lotus doesn't interfere, the child doesn't threaten the balance...

Nathan rejoined his partner as the reached the edge of the town.
"Well, what did you learn? And more importantly, what do we do now?"

He nodded toward the woods.
"We stay in this area, out of sight and out of mind. We'll continue your training and look for Lyn...and whatever killed James. If we can find it and seal it, we can move into the open."

They entered the apartment, Nobu went off to his room, probably to bother their cat who usually hid under his bed.
Lunel went to her room, and locked the door.
"whats he up to..."
In the other room, she heard Pancake hiss as she was discovered.

"I don't understand. Why is it so important? I mean, James was strong, yeah, but..."

He shifted the weight of his blade to the opposite shoulder.
"It's important because whatever attacked him did so without warning, in a manner that causes no physical injury...and it devoured his soul. James will never live again. He was attacked by a Void Hunter."

Nathan's eyes widened and he gritted his teeth.
"What?! That's not possible! The Hunters are extinct!"

Lunel found herself falling asleep again. Lately it seemed all she could do to keep her eyes open.
And when she did sleep, the nightmares came.
