Heh, I'm almost the wrong person to ask. *As she walks her eyes seem to look inward, her feet guided more by memory than sight.*
Dad tends to spend more time at work than he even does sleeping. His job is the number one thing in his life at this point, with Mom coming in a close second and everything else falling into place behind.
Mom is obsessed with two things: Dad and parties. Every weekend there is a social gathering somewhere, usually away from home, and almost always with no kids allowed. That's where she and Dad are right now, in fact.
I'll give my parents this much though. I've never seen a pair more in love.
*she pauses for a moment* I told you before about Jake and Ester, right?

*Luana smiles.* Again, I couldn't really say. They were fourteen when I was born. Ester left when I was four, and Jake was gone shortly before my seventh birthday. They come back and visit sometimes, but that's about it. Jake's married to one of his groupies, and Ester is married, lives in another state, and is expecting her first kid.
The only people who've really been around on a regular basis are my grandparents. Really, I think I showed up at a time when they were the only ones that had time for me.

It must have been lonley for you... I don't know what I would do if I didn't have Kara. She and I never got to know our parents, and we don't even know if our grandparents exist at all... so if we didn't have each other...I don't know where we'd be.

*Luana is silent for a moment as they walk.* Well, I think that's why we have friends. A strong group of friends can sometimes work just as well as, or even better than a family.
Everybody needs someone they can count on.
*As if to remind her, the chain from which the pendant hangs begins to irritate her neck. She reaches up to adjust it without pulling it out of her shirt.*

Well, friends are one of the many beautiful things in life we learn to appriciate. We may not have beautiful surroundings such as this, but thankfully we recognize the importance of good company.

In my time, there is nothing more precious than life. Not possesions, not knowledge, not talent, or promise. We learn to appreciate the things that make us happy, and persue them any way we can. If you do that, you are headed in the right direction....
So you can imagine, we throw some wild parties in my time. :::He chuckles to himself:::
But in all seriousness...good company is one of those neccessities in life.

Here and now people seem to forget those kinds of things. We take so much for granted.
*Luana looks out at the water again and thinks of how hot and tired her feet are getting while they are closed up inside of her sneakers.*

*Luana sits down next to him on the grass, takes off her shoes, stuffs her socks inside of them, rolls her jeans up to her knees, and then stands back up.*

:::He leaned down and rolled up his pants, showing that his feet were wrapped up towards his calf. He left the wraps on, and proceded to the edge of the lake:::
:::Luana was a few feet ahead of him, and he stood at the edge, poking his toes in. He'd been submerged in water before, while bathing, but somehow this was totally different:::

*She shades her eyes so she can see him better and notices the wrappings.* K, your legs... *Obviously there are too many gaps for them to be bandages.* Why are they wrapped up like that?
