Xanta smiled, his eyes touched with the evilness of that smile. His voice was oily when he spoke, though it was barely a whisper.

Would you harness such strength within yourself? It is within, should you desire to touch it.

Xiao hissed an affirmative, different prospects of what exactly she would be able to do with this 'power'. Even her enemies would be forced to bow at her feet.

Xanta turned toward the door, walking deliberately toward it. Suddenly, he whipped around, throwing out his hand and using the Force to lift Xiao off the ground. He suspended her in the air, her arms and legs spread-eagled.

And how would you propose to harness this power? Could you harness it right now to save yourself? Could you burn me where I stand right now?

"I don't know... could I?" Xiao asked to no one in particular. She struggled momentarily, feeling increasingly uncomfortable. She had been in this situation just days ago, and already she was growing tired of it.

Last time, Xiao had calmed herself.

She took a deep breath, forcing oxygen into her all-too-human lungs.

Then she had focused.

Xiao's eyes glazed over as she ran over different prospects in her mind. Of the many Force attacks she could use, she couldn't think of one that would get her out of this situation.

So, in compensation, Xiao allowed her anger to flare, letting the Dark Side lead her actions.

Xiao's fingers twitched.

Xanta grinned as flames flared up in a circle around him, singing his robes. Using the Force, he quickly stamped them out before turning back to Xiao with a wild light in his eyes.

Is that the best you can do? I do not believe so...try again!

This time, Xanta sent bolts of Force Lighting spiraling around the horizontal columns of the Force that he was using to hold Xiao in place. They coursed over her body.

Xiao fought against her human instinct to cry out the moment the electricity touched her.

"You.. b*****d!" she mumbled under hear breath, through clenched teeth.

Her temper flared, and she wrenched her head to the side to get a better view of her master, who seemed to be having way too much fun with this.

Xiao's mouth quirked, and she shoved at him with the Force, using the same embodiment to re-summon the flames that barely licked his feet, drawing them closer, in a tighter circle.

Xanta suppressed a grimace as the flames reappeared to sear through the flesh of his feet. They burned hotter than normal flames, fueled doubtlessly by Xiao's anger. He again used the Force to extinguish them, but this time his robes smouldered and the room filled with the stench of burnt flesh.

Are you growing angrier? Do you hate me? Then kill me!

Xanta sent a much amplified mass of Force Lightning along the columns. The bolts coursed across the woman's body for fully a minute without stopping. He laughed as he threw up a Force Shield around him strong enough to stop nearly anything but Force Scream.

Xiao cried out-- whether it was in pain or pure rage was anyone's guess. Glaring at her master through foggy eyes, Xiao continued to throw out curses as she struggled against the Force bonds.

Xiao felt her energy quickly disintegrating as she started to struggle again, calling upon the Force to launch another attack at her master.

"I... despise... you!" she grunted.

Xanta pulls the bonds farther apart so that Xiao's limbs are stretched farther and farther apart. He can hear her bones creaking in protest.

Prove it to me! How much do you hate me?

"More than you'd know," Xiao screamed, launching a wave of her specialty- Force Lightning.

It took all her concentration to even attack. At the state she was in, she felt more like her legs would be broken.

Xanta felt the Force of the strange Lightning impacting his Shield. Though the electric bolts coursed around the wall of Force, it shivered under the strength of the blow. Xanta nearly quivered himself from the excitement of knowing just how strong she could possibly be - if he was correct, even amped on emotion as she currently was, she was demonstrating but a fraction of what she would eventually be able to do under his guidance. As soon as the wave had passed, he released her from midair.

You do not know the meaning of hatred, Osaka, but you are learning. If I am correct, that blast was but a fraction of your true potential. With my assistance, you will become stronger than you can imagine. Even now, I can feel the burning desire to find knowledge that you can use to destroy me. Your hatred for me will not be long lived, but when it is gone, hopefully something equally as strong will take its place.

Xanta reached his hand down to assist Xiao to her feet.

Xiao fell to the floor, feeling more like a rag doll than a human being. Her limbs hurt, as did her throat, for some odd reason. She caught bits and pieces of her master's words, hoping she was getting the main idea. She clenched her eyes shut and accepted Xanta's helping hand.

"Something stronger, huh?" Xiao mumbled.

Xanta laughed as he lifted Xaio to her feet and steadied her before him.

Indeed. Respect and trust are powerful feelings, almost as powerful as hatred. And, they are ambiguous. One can feel respect for someone one loves or hates. Trust not so much so - there is a certain familiarity implied with trust, but respect can be two way.

You must trust me to teach you all that I know and more, for I will learn with you, and you must also trust me that I will not kill you or allow you to be killed. There is much more at stake than a single life, or a single want for revenge. We are on the verge of taking over the galaxy...it could be the ultimate end of the Jedi Order should we succeed.

Xiao leaned weakly against the wall, allowing her master's words to mingle in her mind. "Did you share those bonds with the lightsiders?" she asked tenatively, eventually sliding to the floor again into a more comfortable sitting position.

Xanta smiled.

For a great many years, before I realized that the Light Side would not allow me to realize my dreams of power, I trusted the Light-Siders, and I respected them for their 'code.'

Nowadays, I respect few. Hetzon Madicor holds respect in my eyes - he came against both Eothain and myself and nearly defeated both of us. Were he on the side of the Dark, he would be one of my most trusted friends - so it was, once, before I discovered his weakness lay in his high ideals. He has much knowledge, gained through his centuries of life. As it is, he still holds my respect for his skills as a fighter. He has survived much.

Does that make sense?

Xanta's voice took on an odd note when he spoke of Hetzon - disgusted, yet more, almost...angry, yet not in the normal rageful way. As though Xanta was still facing his one major defeat.
