Is stuffed her socks into her shoes and looked over to where he was pointing as she rolled her jeans up. She watched the little kids building their sand castle and she remembered the first time Giani had brought her to the beach and they had had their competition. Smiling brightly, she pushed herself up off the ground and dusted her rear off and looked back up at him.
"Sand castles," she supplied, dropping her eyes to find a good spot. Pointing a little ways away, she looked back up at him. "There's a good spot. The sand looks clean and far enough away from the surf so that it won't get knocked down," she said.

"Sand castles." He said to himself and followed her over to the good sand. "That makes sense." He grinned up at her and looked down at the sand. "So, how do we start? "He asked keeping his hurt arm against his chest so he could resis the urge to use it.

Kneeling down, Is slipped her bag off of her shoulder and set it off to the side, setting her shoes next to it.
"Well... first, because we don't have any buckets, we need to work on making a big pile of damp sand, making sure to pack it as we go," she smiled up at him, pushing up her sleeves and starting to scoop sand up into a pile between them. "What kind of design would you like?" she asked, looking up at him.

Ra got up onto his knees and started to dig the sand up with one hand, piling it and packing it down. "Design?" He asked looking up at her and then over to the dark haired children near them. Their 'castle' resembled a large hill with shells on it. "Uh, what do you think? You're the artist."

Is noticed the glance he cast over to the children nearby and grinned at his question. She shook her head, her bangs falling into her eyes.
"Nuh uh. You're not going to use me as a creative crutch today. I know you can think of something. It could be anything really," she said, packing down the sand and starting to smooth the sides as he kept piling sand on top.
"Last time I did this I made a pagoda. It could be regular ole castle... or maybe something from Iran?" she suggested despite her earlier refusal.

"From Iran?" He asked, his mind instantly flying to the old ruins of the Persian empire. They would be easy enough ... they wouldn't have to build much. He smirked and looked back up at her. "There are some beautiful mosques. I don't know if we could do the shape of the rooves though?"

At the mention of mosques, her eyes lit up.
"Well... we won't know unless we try, will we?" she asked, turning to dig in her bag for her ruler and a couple of pens. "You're going to have to describe them to me though. I've never paid very close attention to them before. I know there are a lot of spires, yes?" she asked eyeing the mound to decide the best approach to accomplish this sculpture.

"Well, we could do a simple structure. Without all of the outer walls and different sections." He moved to sit next to her and smoothed the sand down. "The central roof would be ... hmm, like the Taj Mahal, you know that right?" He thought to the Sheik Lotfollah mosque. "Two towers on the front corners. Shapes like this around the outside." He said, drawing the shape of the elaborate arches in the sand. Realising he was getting way too into this he sat back on his heels and flushed a little red. "Do you think we can do it?" He said flipping his hair out of his eyes.

Israel listened with great interest to Ra's description, watching his sketch avidly. She looked up at him and smiled at his blush. She dropped her eyes down to the mound of packed sand, considering his question. With a bright smile she looked back up at him.
"I really think we can," she replied and started draw a few lines in the mound with the end of one of the pens she had pulled out.

"Cool." He said moving back to his previous position and starting to pile the sand in between them. "Can I ask you a personal question?" He asked looking back at the sketch and thinking of the beautiful building they were recreating ... well, attempting to recreate.

Is looked up and blinked. Those were words she never thought she would hear come out of his mouth.
"Of course you can," she smiled and looked back down as she continued to smooth and level the pile.

"Is anyone in your family religious?" He asked, building up his side of the design and patting it down. "You mentioned you had Greek family, are they Orthodox?"
He looked up at her for a moment and then back down to the sand. It was an odd question but one he was interested to know.

That had definitely not been anywhere near the ballpark she thought he would be hitting in with his personal question.
"Uh... well... My grandparents back in Greece are. But my father did not follow their views. He kind of broke away from the Orthodox church. Okay... not kind of. He did. My mother is not religious at all," she smiled at him. "Why do you ask?" she asked, glancing up at him.

Ra shrugged and looked up. "I just thought, as we are building a mosque. People never really talk about religious views so i was curious." He fell silent for a few moments piling more sand up. "Another one, you don't have to answer. Do you know how your grandparents felt. About your father breaking away from the church?"
He looked back up at her and smiled. "Sorry you probably think these are odd questions. I promise you there is a method to my thinking."

Israel smiled and shook her head as she began to shape the main dome.
"Well... You're right. People never really do talk about religion," she smiled. "But that doesn't mean that your questions are odd." She brushed her hand off on her jeans then reached up and pushed her hair out of her eyes.
"My grandparents were furious when my father finally admitted that he was no longer practicing his faith. They blamed my mother for it. Only my grandmother would speak to my father," she said tyring her hardest to make the sand as perfectly smooth as she could. "It was when I was born that they were finally able to sort of put their differences aside. They forgave him enough for us to visit sometimes, but my father was never very comfortable returning home to Greece."
