lovesbitch buffy loved spike. absolutely. she loved how he never gave up trying to be a better man, and she loved how he was willing to give up his life for others. it was a mature love that made her love the good and the bad parts of spike, and she will never forget him. so true heart

Their whole relationship in that last season or so was based on the whole destructive love-hate. Further towards the end of the seventh season, I think her feelings were turning towards more that of love but she never admitted/realized it until that very end.
I'm watching season 3 right now in the computer lab while working ... the one with the love spell when Spike returns. *giggle*

I think she did, but maybe not in the same way that she loved angel. Or at least not the same amount.

for the most part, I would say, sadly, that Buffy didn't really love Spike. sad However, I read something a while ago that talked about Joss's instructions to SMG when she did that last scene w/ James Marsters. Joss told her to really love Spike when she said she loved him, and he told Spike to love her back when he said she didn't love him. cry
So I think she loved him at that point, but, up until around then, I'd have to say she was using him, and then he became a friend, until, at the last moment, she could tell him she loved him (which almost seemed like something you offer up to a dying person whether it's true or not. but what Joss says, I believe!)

Thats kinda a hard question
I have no doubt in my mind Spike truly adored and loved Buffy with all his heart. He loved her more than Angel loved her But Buffy had been weird about Spike I like to belive she loved Spike and woulnt admit it until the final episode

personally i think she loved him, subconsciously....
i think that her life couldnt handly anymore problems though, so she just didnt let herself realise

TheBurklePersona I think Buffy loved Spike but wasn't really IN love with him. I think he gave her strength and solace when she needed it, and she loved him for that and for trying to be a better man for him, but I don't think she would ever be truly happy with him. I think you said it perfectly. Buffy cared about Spike obviously, but she didn't have the kind of love for him that he had for her. He loved her romantically, but she didn't. And at first she was just USING him to feel something when she felt dead after being brought back to life.

In addition to that, Buffy says several times in season 7 "Why do you think I'm still in love with Spike?" This would imply that she did or at least had loved him.

I think she was trying not to deny it. or testing the words to see if she really meant them at a time when she thought it would mean a lot to him. I think she definately had feelings for him, but was fighting to hard against them for it to break out into full blown romantic love. (although I still think she was dumb and spike was SO much more in love with her then Angel ever was!)
