Day was opening in the sky, and they saw the mountains were now much further off, receding eastward in a long curve that was lost in the distance. Ithilien, the garden of Gondor now desolate kept still a dishevelled dryad loveliness.
South and west it looked towards the warm lower vales of Anduin, shielded from the east by the Ephel Duath and yet not under the mountain-shadow, protected from the north by the Emyn Muil, open to the southern airs and the moist winds from the sea far away. Many great trees grew there, planted long ago, falling into untended age amid a riot of careless descendants; and groves and thickets there were of tamarisk and pungent terebinth, of olive and of bay; and there were junipers and myrtles; and thymes that grew in bushes, or with their woody creeping stems mantled in deep tapestries the hidden stones; sages of many kinds putting forth blue flowers, or red, or pale green; and marjorams and newly-sprouted parsleys, and many herbs of forms and scents beyond the garden-lore of Sam. The grots and rocky walls were already starred with saxifrages and stonecrops. Primroles and anemones were awake in the filbert-brakes; and asphodel and many lily-flowers nodded their half-opened heads in the grass: deep green grass beside the pools, where falling streams halted in cool hollows on their journey down to Anduin. there are more descriptive passages, i linger over this chapter when i read the book, because the place is so well described i can imagine myself there and i don't want to leave!

Mmm I read the book... a long, long time ago. ^_^ But yes, that sounds like my place, only with people living in trailers on the property. >>

yay! i've got my plant stand now! i put it together yesterday, and ceremoneously placed the pot of ivy that my Mum gave me onto it lol i'm looking forward to finding bargains to fill it with now, i don't want to be spending much here, i like buying houseplants that are reduced, plus getting freebies from other people! now's the time for me to swipe some more rosemary from my Mum and try not to kill it this time ninja here's how it's looking right now lol not that impressive i know, but you just wait! one strand of ivy reaches nearly to the other side already, i think i'll have my work cut out controlling that once Spring gets here!  picture it full of pots, there's 9 ft of space there, and with ivy trailing all over it, it's going to look fab! i might get another climbing plant for the other side yet, if i get a couple of tension rods and put them at the top of the small side panes i could grow things up the window frames too and have a really lush little spot there blaugh

This spring I shall be moving into a place I know I can dig up the earth to my hearts content, or at least until it gives out. I intend on having a garden that I can be proud of. I will share it with all of you once I got it started biggrin .

i'm going to try to germinate some lemon pips whee
they're soaking at the moment, and i shall plant them on Wednesday, then bite my nails for 3 weeks to see if they grow xd

Jellysundae, that window spot looks like a great little (ok big) spot for plants. biggrin Can't wait to see pictures with more plants all over it. biggrin I Have A Sprout! begining of january and my lillies started sprouting. Here are some pictures(they are huge so I linked them rather than stretch the page). The potSuper up-close of the sprout(blurry)And some links showing our balcony area. [X][X][X]Because I figured deminsions might help with ideas. it's 8 feet floor to ceiling, 6 feet from door to railing, and 9 feet from storage closet (wall) to railing. biggrin If you all have some ideas on what I can fill it up with I'd really appreciate it. I want to make the balcony an area where hubby and I would want to sit, either just to enjoy eachother's company, or maybe to eat at every so often. I'm thinking about getting some large curtains (a tough material that can handle the weather) and make the balcony a little more private, or have it so I can leave them open. I'd like a little table to put out there. I have some other ideas but new ones from others are always fun!

ooh, you've got some lovely space there!
you could grow climbers up the balcony railings, if it's your property and you can add fixtures you could fix some trellis on the walls, and maybe between the railings and the ceiling and grow a living curtain instead of having a fabric one whee

I love that idea... I don't the the apartment management would like that so much though. (they're picky)

jellysundae i'm going to try to germinate some lemon pips whee they're soaking at the moment, and i shall plant them on Wednesday, then bite my nails for 3 weeks to see if they grow xd i posted that at the beginning of January, look at my babies now!  i thought they hadn't germinated, i took them out of the airing cupboard in February and peeped inside the plastic bag i'd put over the pot and nothing had happened sad i poked around with my finger and unearthed 6 seeds that hadn't even started to sprout, so i pout the bag back over the top to keep the soil moist and put it to one side, intending to plant my ginger sprout in it when i got a chance. then a couple of weeks ago i remembered about the pot and took the bag off and there i saw seedlings! so i put the pot on my plant stand and they've come on hugely in 2 weeks! there a 5 seedlings there, the other hasn't got above the soil level yet but i can see it peeking through, so i've got a mini lemon grove on the way blaugh Tomorrow i'm going to plant my ginger shoots up, the 'hand' is just sat on my fridge at the moment, sprouting away to itself, only on the sprouts is over 1 cm long already, so hopefully that will grow nicely too cool i shall post pics of my babies as they grow, i'm proud of them! isn't that silly cool but i've never raised anything from a pip before whee

Seedlings! Yay jellysundae! So the sprout I thought was maybe my lillies back a few months ago wasn't it was a weed (that got killed with a good heavy rain). But now my lillies are sprouting! (picture here) I haven't counted the sprouts yet because the last time I did I had five more pop out of the soil overnight. I can wait for them to start budding and blooming. whee Cala Lillies are what we had at our wedding, granted those were white and these are not it still brings back good memories. 3nodding Oh I have two garden statues out on the balcony now to keep my lillies company. Mahdis (she's a solar light) and Kohana. I think that all the updates I have for now. 3nodding

We bought two calendula seeds from a couple of kids at the street fair, so we'll see if they bloom. The garlics are doing really well, as are the onions, but my tomatoes aren't growing very fast at all. The feverfew is doing nicely, and so are the rest! Yay!
