                                                  LIEV HASTINGS
                                                  ((. . .))

He didn't seem to pay attention to Aaron. That was probably because he knew the ladder wouldn't harm him and his focus was on the customer. It wasn't like him to ignore someone on purpose. "Oh, it's no trouble. Really." He said after making sure the man was situated in the chair. It wasn't long before the other rattled off a bunch of information. Liev listened silently. A gentle smile sat on his features. One the man probably couldn't see. What an interesting predicament. "It seems like none of these would be appropriate without knowing the specifics. But there is something else that might help. A calming oil." It was something that should help at least in some way without causing unnecessary problems. Using medicine of any type incorrectly was never a good thing. There was a slight pause before he added the last bit. "Here, let me get it."

Then he moved away again. This time he stopped to say something to Aaron. "Can you put the items on the table back up?" He didn't actually wait for a response before he went to grab the item. Soon he was back in front of the man who had trouble seeing. "I'll let you smell it. Sometimes that is all someone needs." He knelt down while unscrewing the bottle. Unless he was told not to, he lifted it close enough to the man's nose. It had a mix of lavender, chamomile and a hint of grapefruit. Those were the most noticeable scents anyway. "She could also use it in the bath or a diffuser." He added as he screwed the cap back on and placed it on the table as he stood up.

Liev gave him another smile. "Spirits, huh? What kind of help could they provide?" He asked out of curiosity more than anything. There was no doubt in his mind this man could speak to spirits, but he didn't think they would be of use to him despite the fact that they could possibly know about his blood relatives. "Oh, I apologize. I neglected to introduce myself. I'm Mr. Hastings. The owner of this shop. You may call me Liev." He didn't think to introduce Aaron. He just never had a helper before. It completely slipped his mind. The reason he gave his first name because it was best to build a certain rapport with the customers who would need magic to be weaved into whatever he ended up creating for them. "Are you sure you don't want any hot tea? This might take a while." Liev looked over toward the magician as if to tell him to get the water ready. He would make the actual tea, however. His teas were unique to the individual after all. It could even change based on their current mood.

He was still so ashamed that he had wasted their time with that first matter. Of course he should have known that he needed more information. He had been so focused on finding a way to apologize that all sense had retreated. But even though he had blundered, it seemed that they had a solution for him. He was further glad that Dr. Hastings had offered to get it for him. He hated being such a burden, but at the same time he had already managed to run into something, and with his vision, all he would have been able to pick up on was the fact that there were bottles; he wouldn't have been able to read the label or anything. At least he could hear where everyone was moving, hear when Dr. Hastings asked the other man to put the things away. He heard him returning and offer a sniff of the oil. While he may not have had the same aesthetics as the girl, wasn't it likely that if he thought something was particularly calming, she might as well? It was worth a shot at least. He could vaguely see the bottle as it was brought before him, and even before it reached his nose, he could smell hints of lavender, chamomile, grapefruit, and many other things in subtle quantities. Once it was taken back, he nodded, "yes, I think that will work perfectly. Thank you so much." He wasn't one hundred percent sure what a diffuser was, but she would probably know. That and it sounded like it would have been wonderful at the shrine.

For a moment he was stunned that anyone would turn down an opportunity to enlist aid from the spirits, but then he recalled that things here were different from his home, very different indeed. Well, he would mention it in a moment, it seemed the doctor had more to say. Even after the introduction, it seemed to continue, so he waited patiently. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Lieve. I am Miyasa Yukiro, but please, call me Yukiro or Yuki." It seemed Liev's name gave him a little bit of a problem pronouncing, but with a slightly awkward v and adding a slight vowel to the end, he was able to pronounce the name. "Oh well, in that case I humbly accept your offer. I would not wish for you to be uncomfortable on my account." That and he did like tea, it was always so soothing, though sometimes it could be invigorating at the same time. Tea really was a wonderful discovery. He smiled brightly, "as for what spirits can do, they are most helpful, albeit in subtle ways. They have vast resources of knowledge that I am sure they would be willing to share. They can seek things in locations that mortals cannot, as well as travel more quickly to do this seeking. They can bless people or places or objects, which will bring good luck, and they can be expert sentries, warding a person or place from evil whether it be physical or malicious spirits or bad luck." Talking about spirits made him more confident. It was something he was very knowledgable in, and even from a young age, people had sought him out for answers upon the subject. It was his calling, to put it in a word.

Aaron Shusona

The customer appeared to be kind in nature as demonstrated with their apologetic words. ’He acts proper. Does he come from a well off household?’ The thought hadn’t crossed his mind that the blind male may have had any relation to the Shusonas. Well, it didn’t need to come up since the magical male never gave their identity to them. It was unnecessary to do so as he was only assisting the shop owner with menial tasks. There was no need for the silver raven to assist Liev with his business, at least in regards to assisting the newcomer and their troubles. He would just have to spend his time with the work a certain Hastings gave him. That included cleaning up certain locations while the two males conversed with each other.

’A noble-like nature too. Coming here to help a stranger can speak volume for his character.’
As the tasks were simple in nature, Aaron was able to easily listen in on the two. The shop wasn’t such a grand place where they could hide their conversation. No, it was probably possible but it wouldn’t have phased the magical man. It wasn’t his business to intervene in the first place.
”Of course.” His response was light-hearted as he motioned to do what had been asked of him. Keeping a clean space was certainly a must in this shop. A cluttered shop with no organization could put customers in a titzy. Scooping up the objects, he left the two quickly to complete his objective.

Their next task was to get the hot water boiling but he wasn’t quite down with that yet. Instead, those steel-eyes darted over to a certain little egg nestled away in the corner of the shop. With a nod of his head a little bird came poking their beak out. It looked at the Shusona, then at Liev, and back to magician. The creature stretched itself before taking off. The little bundle of life proceeded to do the task the Apothecary had given to him. Well, as long as it was getting done it shouldn’t have mattered who had done it.

                                                  ((. . .))

Aaron did what he asked without complaint. Not as if he was expecting him to make a fuss about working. It was why he walked into his shop in the first place. He still didn't think he needed someone to hover around waiting to help though. None of that mattered. What was important was taking care of the customer. A smile sat on his face knowing the first request was taken care of to the best of his ability with the information he had. Now it was time to focus on the issue which affected the man personally.

Liev didn't bother to try to coax the man into pronouncing his name perfectly. "The pleasure is mine, Yukiro." He said in a soft polite tone before listening to what the man had to say next. It wasn't until he finished when he responded. "Is that so? They sound interesting." He mused somewhat to himself. "Give me a moment. Let me finish your tea." Liev wasn't gone long. It probably looked like he was seeping a normal combination of herbs. The only problem was he only waited for about five seconds before taking it out and walking back over. The tea would have fit Yukiro and his current mood perfectly. A delicate remedy. He knelt down to hand the man the mug while making it as easy to grab the handle as possible. The liquid low enough not to spill. "Here you go. Or do you want me to set it on the table for now?" He asked as the smell wafted up to tickle the man's nose. If he was told to put down next to him he would.

He put some things he would need on the table after the tea was dealt with. "If you don't mind, I'd like to collect some samples while we talk. Is that okay? Nothing big. A strand or two of your hair might be all that is needed." He explained briefly before asking a different question. "How long have your eyes been like this?" He started as he moved to stand in front of the man. Liev leaned closer before giving a warning. "I apologize in advance if I make you uncomfortable by invading your space." His tone was soft and gentle. Fingers brushing strands of hair out of the way before he rested two fingers on his brow and a thumb under an eye. "I want to get a good look. Could you try to keep them open for me? It will only take a moment." If he was allowed he'd take a few seconds on one eye before moving to the other. "Why are you eager to fix your eyesight now?" He asked as he moved the palm of his hand under the others bangs so it would rest on his forehead.

He wasn't entirely sure if Mr. Hastings said they sounded interesting just to be polite or if he really meant it, but it was fine either way. Not everyone had a close relationship with spirits, and it was his job to make things run smoothly for those who did not. If everyone could talk to and understand spirits, then he would be out of a job. "Oh yes, sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt." He waited patiently in his own little bubble as Mr. Hastings made tea, though it did surprise him how quick he was about it. Had Yukiro lost track of time? That surely must have been it. "I will take it, thank you very much." He took a sip while it was still hot, and instantly felt at peace. He had not mentioned that he too suffered some issues with anxiety, but the tea seemed to have a soothing effect that nearly lulled him to sleep. At the very least it lulled him into a state of perfect ease and cooperation.

Next thing he knew, the man was very much in his field of vision, and he could even tell that he had golden eyes! It had been ages since he was close enough to tell what eye color someone had! "Oh of course, whatever you need is fine." He confessed he wasn't sure how strands of hair would help, but he had once solved a rubix cube with the aid of a long-dead Go champion, so he was really not one to question antics. "As far as my parents are aware, I have always been like this. Of course it is hard to tell with a very young infant, as their eyes rarely focus on anything anyways, but they said that it was always best to speak to me long before they neared me, or else I would get spooked. On reflection, they believed this was because I could not see them at all until they suddenly appeared, which would of course frighten an infant. At least as far as I am aware, it has only worsened a little with time. I am most thankful for that." He was about to nod to the warning before he thought better of it. No need in bumping heads. "Thank you for warning me. And sure, I will do my best." As long as Mr. Hastings wasn't looking for him to focus his eyes on a direct target, then everything would be fine. He could keep them open for a while, had trained himself to keep them open even when the smoke of candles and incense began to bother them. It was a necessary skill where he came from. He held as still as possible, using only slight movements of the lower jaw to speak. "Up until now, I have basically lived at the shrine near my hometown. All of the spirits and worshippers there know me well, so I could always rely upon them to help me along. The spirits have been very helpful here, but I do not know how long I will be staying or what I will be doing in the near future. I need to be able to rely upon myself for more than just slowly moving about known locations." It sounded so weak and selfish, but the truth was better than a more glorious lie.

                                                  LIEV HASTINGS
                                                  ((. . .))

He always liked watching someone take the first sip of his special tea. A small smile formed on his face. The other was rather cooperative with his invasion of space. It was something he had a tendency to forget when he was checking a person. Since he tended to be focused on the task at hand, he was never bothered by the amount of closeness and would miss when others felt uncomfortable. It was a habit he tried to be wary of nowadays. That's why he warned the other.

Liev listened as the man explained a bit about his childhood. The part that was related. Usually, people weren't this talkative when he was checking them while asking questions. Not as if it bothered him. It was just noted as interesting. "Sounds like a life filled with jump scares...but I suppose the spirits help warn you." It might have been a strange way to respond since he was more in work-mode than anything, but that's what he thought of when the other mentioned them suddenly appearing. It sounded like being in a scary movie constantly. It was shortly after his jump scare comment when the other confirmed how helpful the spirits were."I've never been to a shrine. I'd imagine it would be a lovely experience." He said as he moved to the items on the table.

"Do your eyes ever have any pain or discomfort? Has your vision ever gotten worse for a short amount of time? Do you recall any moments where your eyes might have been the cause of you getting lightheaded or dizzy?" After each question he stopped long enough for the other to reply if he wanted to do so at the moment. If the answer was ever 'yes', then he would ask for Yukiro to give him the number of times it had happened over the years and if the frequency has changed more recently or at a certain point in the past.

After the detailed talk about anything related to Yukiro's eyes, he had to get some samples. "I'm going to pluck out a few strands of hair now. Bare with me, please." He waited a moment before his hand moved some of the upper layers of hair behind the man's ear. Shortly after, he plucked a single strand--root at all. Amber orbs shifted to look at Yukiro's face while making sure he was still fine. "Do you have any allergies? Any other conditions I need to know about?" He asked before continuing. Then he repeated the process a couple more times in slightly different areas. He was using a small metal tool: like tweezers. Putting the strands in a special container. The items used were soon set off to the side on the table. "Now, I need you to spit in this." He said as he handed a beaker of sorts to the nearly blind man. He made it easy for him to know where it was if needed. "As much as you can, please." This time he merely waited for the other to be finished before taking the item back and setting it on the table.

"That's all for now. I appreciate you being honest and giving me what I need." There was a brief pause. A small smile on his face. "I'll have to run some tests. If I need anything else I'll let you know. I'm afraid I can't give you an honest estimate of how long it might take for me to figure out what I can actually do for you. I've never dealt with this particular request before so it might take some time. Please be patient with me." He explained. There was no point in making promises he might not be able to keep. It didn't matter if he thought it was doable. "Oh! I almost forgot. I need you to fill out some paperwork. Mostly just some basic information. Give me a moment." Then grabbed the tools and samples off the table and took them in the back. His gaze shifting to Aaron as he walked by. Soon he returned with some papers. "Got it." He informed before he arrived so as to not startle him. The store owner sat down in the chair on the opposite side of the table. "I guess I'll just ask you the questions and fill it out for you." It was only done in that fashion if it was needed. Any information he already gained would be written down himself anyway.

Yukiro Miyasa

He was used to having to get very close to things in order to see them, so having someone in his face didn't phase him at all. And he was so forthcoming with information because he really had no idea what would be helpful or not, so he would just give all of the information. It was better to have too much to go on than not enough. "It really is a very tranquil and moving experience. If I find one nearby, I would be honored to visit it with you, if you so desire." He wasn't familiar with any shrines here, but he couldn't imagine they would be too different from the ones back home. Plus the spirits would probably warn him if he was about to make a major faux pas. As for the questions about whether his eyes had ever caused any problems, he had to answer no for most all of it. Really the only problem they had ever given him was the fact that they did not work very well. Other than that he was quite lucky. Well, of course, sometimes he would get headaches from staring too long at something, trying to get more details on it, but everyone faced such difficulties right?

"Oh um sure, ok," he said when warned that Mr. Hastings was going to be pulling a few hairs for samples. That wasn't anything he was used to, but a few here and there wouldn't hurt, right? Wasn't like he was trying to pull out a large clump or anything. It was quick and fairly painless, so he just attributed it to an eccentric aspect of the man's capabilities. When asked about if there were any other conditions, Yukiro felt that once again, he should probably state more than was necessary, just to be on the safe side. "Well, it probably goes without stating, but I'm albino." You know, in case the pale skin, white hair, and pale pink eyes weren't all dead giveaways. "Which of course brings with it the normal setbacks, such as photosensitivity. Oh, and I'm red-green colorblind. I think I can see the other colors though, so it is a limited range problem. Um...I've been diagnosed with a moderate anxiety disorder...not sure if that is important or not. I don't think there is anything else left for me to report on that." Besides having vision like a skunk, he was actually pretty healthy. Sure being able to go out on a rainy day and not get sunburned would have been nice, but at the same time, he didn't really want to change his albinism. It was a part of him, and a link between him and Okami. The visual impairment was probably a result of this, but he could live with the cause if that one complication was taken care of. Even if he didn't get perfect vision, improving it enough so that glasses would help with things would be a dream come true.

Gathering saliva made a little more sense. Albinism was genetic, and both hair follicles and saliva held DNA, so maybe that was what he was testing? Though would the cure alter everything or just his vision? Well either way he was happy he was finally doing something about his problems. Using the tube thing was easy for him, though his vision sucked, he was extremely well aware of his body and near surroundings, so once the tube was in his hands, he had no problem positioning it or anything. Knowing how much was in the tube...that was another story, but once he was finished, he felt certain there was plenty there. "Oh, of course. Please take all of the time you need. Should I leave contact information, or what would work best?" But soon his question was kind of answered when Mr. Hastings remembered he needed some information for a form. "Oh, well, I am glad that I could provide you with a unique situation." It wasn't the most reassuring thing to hear that he had never worked with this sort of request before, but the spirits seemed very pleased with him, so he would have to trust them. The form was also making him nervous. Unless it had gigantic writing or was in braille, there was no way he would be able to read it let alone actually write responses. Fortunately, Mr. Hastings volunteered to read the questions and write down the answers for him. He laughed awkwardly, "thanks for that. I probably would have made a mess of things if I had tried to write it. If I can't even navigate around a large object, filling out a tiny form would probably be next to impossible." Oh joy, self-deprecating humor. Always a great way to lighten the mood and maybe your embarrassment.

                                                  LIEV HASTINGS
                                                  ((. . .))

He merely smiled when the other offered to visit a shrine with him; although, he didn't think there was one anywhere around here. Then again, he could be wrong. It wasn't as if he had a tendency to explore the area since he moved here. Was that a bad thing? He had been living here for a while now. Last time he took someone to a bar to celebrate her birthday because he couldn't think of anywhere else at the time. It turned out well so it didn't really matter in the end.

Yukiro was such a good patient. He didn't seem to be that bothered by anything and was willing to tell him everything that could prove to be useful. "Did you only want me to tackle your eyesight?" He asked for clarification more than anything. It was said after the man talked about photosensitivity. "By eyesight, are you including the color issue as part of the request?" If he wanted to do anything else besides general sight he'd have to run a couple more tests. Nothing big really, but still necessary.

Everything he learned was later written down when he brought over the forms to be filled out. A gentle chuckle escaped him when the other took a stab at himself. "It's no problem. I'm here to help after all." A smile spread across his face. Soon everything he needed was written down--including the contact information. "I think I got everything." He said as he stood up. "I hope I didn't take up too much of your time." He gave a small smile before he added more. "Is there anything else I might be able to help you with? Oh. Let me ring up the item for your friend. I can do it for you if you want to stay where you are...that might be awkward though." He gave a slightly nervous chuckle since he would have to take the man's wallet and pay for him--essentially. People could get particular when it came to money. The thought didn't cross his mind until after he already gave Yukiro the option.

"Got my family

And I got no money but
There's no need to give up
I've been lucky in my life

Will I be lucky in my life?

He smiled ever so slightly, "You make it sound as if gaining sight is a small matter. The color blindness would be a lovely bonus, but it does not matter nearly so much to me." Though he would be curious to know what color hair and eyes that beautiful woman had...wait, that was off-topic. He couldn't help but blush slightly at where his thoughts had wandered off to. "And I would like to keep my complexion if at all possible. I've grown...rather attached to it, frankly. It is a little annoying to always worry about burning, but it is not so great a hindrance. Besides, my name would make little sense if that changed...oh, my name means 'son of snow'. I guess I should have translated that before I made my comment." It was so strange to be in a country where Japanese was not the native language, it meant that he had to translate things, not just words, fairly often. But that meant he got to teach people new things, and he loved to teach, so it actually made him happy and lonely at the same time. A curious paradox.

Mr. Hastings really was such a wonderful person to work with. Very easy to get along with, polite, and professional. He would have to remember to thank the spirits who had recommended him. He couldn't see the smile or the look in the man's eyes, but he was definitely aware of the tone, and the tone seemed to be pleasant and amicable, which of course made Yukiro even more inclined to be forthcoming with information. After a series of rather common questions, it seemed they were finally done. "Please, you are doing me a great service with your work. If anything, I should apologize for taking up so much of your time, that and my rather embarrassing introduction. I'm still not exactly sure how I managed to run into whatever it was that I ran into. Really doesn't reassure me about my ability to get around on my own." That said, he had been getting around on his own ever since he left home, so apparently he wasn't too bad at it. He shook his head when he asked if there was anything else he needed. "You have done a great service for me already. I could not think to ask for more. I can come up to the counter, it is no trouble. Not that I don't trust you, I would have no qualms with you going through my wallet, only, I have things arranged a particular way so that I know what the bills are." Depending on which corner was bent and by how much, he could figure out what the bill denomination was. While he trusted Liev, there was a decent chance that one who could use sight to find the bills might accidentally disturb a fold, and then he would be at a loss.

He didn't mean it to sound as if returning someone's sight was a trivial matter. Something he could do no problem. Nothing was ever for sure. Even the tried and true. Everyone was different after all. A smile graced his features as the other talked. He liked how he didn't want to fix all his flaws--only really focusing on what he deemed to be most important to take care of. There were definitely some customers who would either become dependent on something they shouldn't or want him to fix everything about them/ Even their life. It was sad really. There are certain things he will refuse to make: rules not meant to be broken. That didn't mean he could deny someone just because he thought they were addicted or going to use the item in a way it shouldn't. He would try to slip in a warning here and there, however. "Ah, what a lovely name." He said in a soft almost faraway tone. It returned to normal when he spoke again. "I'll focus on the sight. Later on, if you want to mix in the color issue I will look into it. Tackling too much at once will just slow things down."

Soon it was time to end their session and continue on with the day. "Thank you. I appreciate your kind words." He said before adding something about the ladder. "It does stick out a bit. And this is a small store." When the other mentioned how he would come up to the counter he moved to steer him in the right direction. It was quicker and safe from the ladder. Then he swiftly went behind the counter to ring up the item. After everything was paid for he handed the small paper bag over carefully. "I hope your friend will get good use out of it. I'll give you updates on your request when I can. Feel free to stop by before then if you want." He gave him a smile before he added the last bit like an afterthought. "Oh, the door is straight behind you." It wasn't until the other was about to actually leave, assuming he was, when he uttered a cheerful 'thank you for coming'.

It was a little annoying he still had no clue what it was that he had run into. All comments had just referred to the object as "it" so all he could really surmise was that it was an object and not a person. Oh well, maybe once the treatment started, he would finally be able to see who his mortal enemy was. With his luck, it was probably a doorframe or something else horrendously obvious. He paid for his purchase, his fingers deftly running over the corners of the bills in his wallet, then figuring out the change by size alone. Despite this being a different currency system from what he was used to, he had grown accustomed to it rather quickly. And fortunately he had the exact change, otherwise if he had received any bills back, he would have had to figure out what they were and mark them as well, lest he hand out a twenty when he was looking for a five. "I'm sure she will, thank you very much! And thank you for the invitation, I hope to see you in the future!" This time he wasn't misspeaking, he meant to say "see" as a hope that there would come a time when he could actually see more than the presence and absence of light and some basic details a few feet in front of him. He wasn't even asking for 20/20 vision, just enough that maybe with glasses he could see like others. It had been a dream of his for a while, and now maybe it would come true. Though he shouldn't be getting his hopes up, he reminded himself, there were still plenty of things that could go wrong. Liev himself had stated that he had never created such a solution before, so he would have to see what he could come up with. But he had faith in the man, the spirits had faith in him too, so he was optimistic that everything would work out. He nodded as Liev informed him of where the door was, "Thank you, who knows how many things I would have run into before I found it." He was just kidding of course, he could actually see the light coming from outside, so he had a rough idea of where the door was. He bowed and waved his goodbye in the general direction of the man, then proceeded on his way out. Once outside, it was like he was walking through plains with cleats: perfectly sure-footed without a hint of trouble with the ice.

During the exchange between Liev and the customer named Yukiro Miyasa, Aaron kept himself busy. A familiar duo came floating on by and took notes on the conversation. The Shusona entertained himself with the magical item's occasional bickering with each other. The magician was actually quite fascinated with talks regarding the spirits. If he hadn't been on the job then he might of have asked a few questions regarding them. Well, he might see the white-haired man around so the chance could pop up in the future. For the meantime, the doctor appeared to beat him to the punch though. No matter! This was all a learning experience in the end. If he wanted to help the good-natured Apothecary with their business then they had to know the ins and outs of the shop. That seemed to involve conversing with the customer in a manner that would put them at ease, provide tea that complimented their tastes, asking about what they wanted, give them an assessment about the products with its effects, and then grabbing the necessary ingredients. There was certainly more than that but that was the gist of it. Whether or not this gray-haired man would actually assist the shop owner with the magical task was a different story.

Aaron waved the nearly blind man away as they departed from the store. Walking towards the door, they kept an eye on the pink-eyed male to see if he would be good on his own. It took him around two minutes to feel assured before facing towards the Apothecary. ”It sounds like you have something fun to do this weekend. Think I can help?” Though the man did offer his assistance it would be up to the doctor in the end. Who knows, perhaps his magic was not cut out for brewing magical potions.

Since everything had been pretty much cleaned up, the Shusona took a seat on a stool. There was a small sigh as the silver raven cupped his own cheek while placing their elbow on the counter. ”I guess we have to cancel any plans we had this week. Unless~ You want to spend it together.” There was a grand smile on the male's lips while Pen & Paper hovered over. His steel-blues held some form of affection as Paper began to fight over Liev's attention. Paper tried to nuzzle into the Apothecary's face while Pen repeatedly stabbed Paper in the middle. ”Good to see their as feisty as ever.”

He said goodbye to the man and gave a slight chuckle when the man cracked a joke at how his lack of sight could cause obvious issues for him at times. It wasn't long before Aaron spoke up after staying quiet for most of the others visit. "Probably not." It was better if he was alone to focus when dealing with something new. "You...could probably help...when I work on something less complicated." He added carefully--not wanting the other to get too excited. A small smile formed on his features.

Liev watched him sit across from him. Nerves acting up a bit. "You promised me goat." He reminded him as a way to say it was okay to spend time together. At least for some of the weekend since he obviously had work to do. Amber orbs were focused on Aaron as he leaned against the counter. The thoughts which popped up at the moment were pushed aside when pen and paper returned. Not wanting to get accidentally stabbed, he wrapped his fingers around Pen. "Please, calm down." He then plucked Paper off his face, or wherever it might have traveled to. Placing them both on the counter near each other. "Haven't you had enough time to work this out?" He said before letting out a light sigh. A small smile appearing on his features.

His gaze returned back to the magician. "What...other things would you want to do?" Liev meant for dates. He just felt nervous thinking about even using that word. It was silly. He's been on dates before and been fine. Plus, they were dating now. Perhaps that was the real reason. No, probably not.

                                                  ((. . .))

Earlier this morning they went to the market to get some things for the store. One was something he was going to use while he taught Aaron how to make a potion. He didn't point it out though. Liev only warned him how they had to wake up earlier to go to the market to get some things for the shop. It wasn't really needed to be part of the lesson. At least in his mind. Now they were back in the shop. Technically the front was open for any visitors who might need something, but they were in the back. That's where he did most of his creating after all. If someone came in they'd hear the pleasant chime as the door opened. Then he could tend to the customer. He picked a fairly common potion to make. It wasn't too complicated. Currently, various things were laid out on the work table. Many were off to the side for later use. Each of them had a mason jar, bowl, and herb in front of them. A larger glass container of a liquid, labeled vegetable glycerine, was placed nearby.

"As I mentioned before, I will take you through all the steps to make a stress relief potion. It has a restorative nerve tonic which helps with exhaustion. First, we have to extract all the elements out of this Scutellaria lateriflora." He said the last bit as he gently picked up the plentiful herb in question. It was best to get the ones with the most blooms. He rested the herb lightly against the palm of his other hand as he continued. Amber orbs focused on the plant. "It is a mild sedative used to calm anxiety and help one sleep. There is always more than one ingredient which makes up a potion. I'm just using this herb to help teach you how to extract what is needed from a plant." His eyes shifted to look at Aaron when he mentioned how the potion involves more than just this one herb. Just because the plant had certain properties didn't mean it could do much on its own.

"Let's begin." He said as his attention returned to the plant. "Just strip the flowers from the stems like this. Don't put too much pressure or you will bruise the flowers." He demonstrated by placing two fingers and thumb around the bottom of one stem of flowers. Then he slid his fingers to the top in one smooth motion--letting the intact blossoms fall into the bowl placed underneath. He stopped to look at Aaron as he continued to explain. "If you don't put enough it won't work. You can pluck them off one by one if it is easier for you." He paused for a moment to watch how the other would do it. When he was satisfied he took care of his own. "When you finished getting them all off safely, gently plucked off two leaves and put them in the jar." Liev does just that before tackling the bowl. "Then transfer the flowers to the jar." With that done, he moved to grab the larger container filled with liquid. "This is a common ingredient used, but you need to mix it with water first when working with dried herbs." He explained a bit more about it as he filled the mason jar up to the top. Then he handed it over to Aaron so he could do the same thing. "Make sure you screw the lid on tight and give it a good shake for five seconds." He shook the mason jar when appropriate and set it back down when he was done. "This needs to sit for four to six weeks. I give them a shake once a day. It is an important step in the process. You must also label it so you know when you made it and what's in it. Being exact is important." He pulled out a nifty labeler to place on the mason jar with all the necessary information. Then he walked over to a certain area.

"This is where this particular one is placed." He said as he set it on the shelf before removing two. Liev walked back to the table with the new jars while expecting the other to put his in the right spot. The white-haired man placed the jars in their work areas. Both had dates from around five weeks ago. He also removed the bowls and placed a bottle in front of each of them. "After the appropriate amount of time we have to strain them." He said as he handed a cheesecloth over before placing his over the entrance of the bottle. "Give your jar one last shake before carefully pouring the liquid into the bottle." Liev already started to shake as he was explaining. Soon he was finished transferring the liquid and placed a cork in it. "And done...with the first part." He said as he looked over at the other. "I know it takes a long time just to prepare this one ingredient for the potion, but I always have common ingredients like this ready to go for when I need it. The rare ones are what might make something take longer and cost more. These all have a certain shelf life. The fresher the better." He gave him a small smile.

Waking up bright and early, honestly, it had been a while since he needed to be up at that time. Which is why he took some precaution the night before and got some extra Zzz’s. He wouldn’t let anything distract him from getting at least eight hours of well rested sleep. Anyways, the magician may have had some difficult waking up in the morning but it wasn’t impossible! It took dragging himself to the nearest bathroom to get him up and about. When the morning routines were done, they were off! The market had some early stragglers roaming around. These were clearly people who were getting a good deal on the purchases they made. Well, it made sense when you put some thought into it. New products usually came in the wee hours of the day and if you wanted the best of the best, then you had to be one of the first in line to purchase the goods. But why were they here again? All the man knew about today’s purchase was that it was for the store. It was something Aaron was more than happy to assist with considering it helped the two spend some time together. As sweet as that thought was, he chalked up the market visit as one of those days where Liev was going to purchase a large load of goods that may have been a bit too much to carry back by himself. When his purchase was done, the Shusona and the Apothecary were back to the shop with their goods.

He didn’t know what to expect as the bought products were dropped off in the store. Only when Liev spoke up about a potion that things began to click in Aaron’s head. ”So that’s why you wanted me all to yourself this morning. How deceptively clever.” There was a small nudge from the magician along with a playful attitude. Their bet from the other day did involve a potion lesson, but he never imagined that it would come so soon! So like any good student, he summoned Pen and Paper to the forefront! They wrote down some notes regarding this lesson while Aaron concentrated on the demonstration. A drawing of this plant was sketched by the writing utensil as those steel-grays observed the greenery. When their eyes met with the good doctor’s, he gave a slight nod to show that he was following along as the lesson began. Maybe that was all that was needed as the doctor continued on.

When his turn came to pluck the petals, he attempted to do it as easily as the other. Of course, things don’t always go that smoothly. In the beginning, he was a bit too gentle with the petals as not a single one came off from the plant. Putting in a teeny bit more strength, a few came off while the rest continued to latch on. ”You make it look so easy.” He joked as he continued with the attempt, except this time he went by plucking a single petal. This was a bit more successful but was far more time consuming compared to the doctor’s. Taking off the two leaves were easier than plucking off the delicate and fragrant petals.

When the jar was given to him, the petals were put in the jar before the water was poured in. He tried to eyeball the liquid level with the others as best as he could. Screwing on the lid, Aaron gave the jar a few shakes in the allocated time. Meanwhile, Pen and Paper continued to jot down whatever was said to the magician. He would have to look over those notes and maybe ask some questions when time would allow it.

Writing down the plant’s name on the label, Aaron was careful to make sure that the label was right dab in the middle of the mason jar. Carrying the object over, it was placed where Liev indicated that it should rest. ”I’ll see you soon.” He told the mason before returning to the doctor’s side. Honestly, the magician did his best to keep up with the experienced Apothecary. He was slow but cautious with his own jar as it was given a shake before it was strained. When that concluded, there was a look of excitement in his eyes. ”You know, this sort of reminds me of something a witch might do.” A light pat was given to the cork. ”I think I have a better idea about how much satisfaction you have in your work. Seeing all your efforts bear fruit while watching your customer satisfied with the product, it must give you a great feeling inside.” Aaron stated like an optimist before looking over the notes taken.

”Your wonderful apprentice has a few questions for you. I’ll have Pen write it here in case you forget them.” There was a nod given to the magical objects before opening his mouth. ”What purpose does putting the petals in water do? I understand that we want to extract the element but could you explain why it has to be water?
Why wait so long? Is there a possibility that another solution we could use that can possible extract the plant faster while giving the same results?
Does the size of the mason jar have an effect on the product? If so, how?
What is the next step after this?
How many ingredients need to be mixed to make a single product?”
