Ack. I thought there were only four sabbats. Well, that shows how much I know...

Can someone tell me what a Yule Log is? Do you just find a normal log and decorate it, and then burn it?

(I'm so, SO sorry if I sound annoying. I'm new to wicca.)
3nodding I haven't read that far to see if anyone has replyed to you. Yes YOu can use any log, just as long as the log feels right to you. It gives you a good feeling when you hold it. The reason for this, When you burn it inyoru fireplace, it is supposed ot bring you luck and prosperity for the coming year

Eek! I've been neglecting my Sabbat's lately. The next, in about a month or so, is Lammas, or Lughnassad. Or however you wish to spell it. So.. er yes! I need someone to yell at me about a week before, so I can actually do it. <3

Aye! Don't apologise, or we'll all hound you for apologising too much! XD Anyway, a Yule Log, bless it, empower it, decorate it, burn it. It's basically a log. If you don't have a fireplace, alot of people carve holes in them, then place tea light candles ( like with the little metal cover thingsers ) in them. But I really don't know much about yule logs... I don't know the history or really anything else about 'em. Anyone else feel free to add! And on the sabbats thing, there are four major sabbats, and four minor. That confused me at first too. Don't worry! ^^

there are 4 sabbats, 2 solstices, and 2 equinoxes. Samhain, Candlemas(or Imbolc), Beltane, and Lammas(or Lughnasadh) are the sabbats. Yule, and Midsummer(or Litha) are the solstices. Ostara and Mabon are the equinoxes.

just a little tid-bit of information for you wink

Hoshit! Thank you! I knew there were two solstices, and equinoxes, but I thought they were all classified as Sabbats.

that's what i thought in the beginning but i was told differently by some one who has been in wicca for 23 years.

Mmm.. That just could make them right! XD 23 Years expierience.. That's one of the longest periods of experience I've heard of for wicca. Since it's only around 50 years old.. and most practitioners quit, or die. XD

yeah. all her children are in wicca too. they have a family coven i think. even her husband is in wicca. now only if my parents will accept me as a wiccan...

Wow.. That's cool. I would love to have an all wiccan family. Doing sabbat rituals and such would be awesome! And you'd have support. My mom's an... Atheist.. or somthing like that. Not sure. She has no religion. There. What ever that means. lol She accepts me as a wiccan though. It was funny, cause in the middle of a book store ( Chapters ) Me and my mom were arguing quite loudly about buying a Wicca book. She said it would piss my grandma off ( and It would cause she thinks I am a devil worshipper ) and I was trying to tell her I'd hide it... Duska.. You remeber that? ( She was there. ) xd sweatdrop gonk domokun ninja

my mommie and my older sister r wiccan too. theynkinda almost raised me into it smile and to the Yule log thing, if i could make an addition: the 3 candles should be (according to my family) 2 green candles on either side of one red candle in the center. but thats just what i read and practice.

Most old fashioned Yule Logs are actually the trunk from the Yule Trees. You "season" the trunk for a year, you can infuse it with oils in this time, or rubs etc, then coat it in bees wax (oohhh... Wax fire!). Then decorate it with sacred herbs and evergreens then burn it. You can make a permeate one by taking the log and drilling holes in it, turning it into a candle holder. Then simply light the candles.

Lupercalia is not the same as Imbolc. It was celebrated on the 14th and celebrated Love. Hence why it was highjacked by St. Valentine. Anyway- it also has a lot to do with the love between a mother and child.

I was just reading some of the other posts.. Wicca is not just 50 years old. It has ben traced back to the 1st century 'BC' (I don't like using BC)... I've read a few web sites that actually say that it was a religion before 'BC'. 3nodding Just a little piece of information for yous..
Use BCE then. BCE means before current era, or something to that extent. It's "more politically correct". 3nodding

Mmm, I believe ( Only from other sources ) that it was based off of pagan practises back before... 'BC' ( I don't like using it either.. ) But Gardiner brought it back in the 50's. Mhm.

I heard that too.. Yes, I do belive he made it more well known and made some things quite clear.
Something that really stumps me is why do most Christians think we are worshipping the devil when it is not part of our beliefs, we do not even believe in it.

Long story short, Gardner made Wicca up. He was a very well educated man, and he wanted to practice Pre-Christian European religion- however, as very little of it survived, he took what he could find, blended it with Kabalism and tweeked it so people raised in a Hebrew-Faith based culture could understand it as a religion and put it on the market as Wicca. This is not to say it isn't a valid path, it just isn't that old. About 55 years by now.

Now, Christians believe pagans worship Satan because the Church Fathers knew that if they were going to last they needed converts. Smart people do this two ways, either adopt other's beliefs with a twist to make them your own (hence why we celebrate Christmas during Yule- Jesus was born in March) and what you cannot bend to your perspective, you vilify. Thus many gods became either Saints or Devils.

Okay, the last post before I let someone else chat about this subject.

There are eight Sabbats. These Sabbats are made up of two equinoxes- the point where day and night are “equal” that take place in the spring and autumn. There are two solstices that take place on the longest/shortest day/night of the year, this is in the middle of summer and winter. Now, the other four Sabbats are the days that fall directly between a solstice and an equinox. These are called Cross quarters.

Keep in mind, these are not the only pagan holidays folks!

Meh. The reality of the situation is that Beltain is a fertility celebration. For those of us that are fertil, this means something different.
