Erin Sovenya Mercuryangel luthen.inadon ChildOfTheMoon Spoiler: Rands wound may cause the sickness to worsen. The taint in his wound is described like the taint on the source. They are the samething. The wound will be his death.(Just a theory.) this makes much sense, friend, but remember that Damer Flinn sort of..."contained" the taints of his wounds...theoretically a clash with the DO could undo that containment, not to mention (possible spoiler) do we really think RJ will make rand fight and get dizzy, leaving himself open to attack?Well we don't know what RJ can/will do. Everyone has their shortcomings I'll admit. the entirety of the power of the dark one hasn't been mentioned exactly, nor has the true potential of the "True Power" as he calls it. Which brings up a few points:
Is the Dark One a Channeler?
Why/how did he become immortal? Does it have anything to do with the Aelfinn?
And can the True Power/One Power/Dark One re-loosen the taint per se? If he can, it's quite possible that the madness/symptoms it contained have been building during this time and will unleash at once...which may become key during Tar'mon Gaidon.
Well, they can't be building if the taint isn't there, which it isn't (except in Rand's side, but as already said, thats contained, so it isn't affecting him as the taint, per say, just as a normal wound), though it IS possible he'll re-loose it on those who fight TG. Since women will help maybe this time the tiant will affect both genders?
I'd always thought the DO always had been, like the creator's antithesis. Stuck there for all eternity trying ot get out and wreak havoc. I think he's metaphysical, though he can probably manifest in some shape or form. Maybe possession? (Shaidar Haran, anyone?)
...can the Aelfinn grant immortality?? I see your point about the wound, and since the reason the taint lessened was because Nyaneve helped him put it in a conduit, affecting both genders is quite possible.
Hmm...I can see the antithesis part...if we stuck them with modern religion..the creator would be God and the DO the Devil...but what would that make Lews Therin? The possession theory is also very true...but I don't think it's quite that he's possessed Haran entirely...it seems more like a..hmm..Haran still seems to have a personality..or as much as a Fade can be said to have..and I think he asked questions from time to time.
We can't say. Cyndane mentioned at one point that using the Aelfinn (of the door Mat went through) and the Eelfinn (which are probably from the other door mentioned in the books) her own capability with channeling had increased. She didn't say how, but the fact remains that the Aelfinn were labeled as the cause. So if they are capable of that, along with being seers of a sort, what else can they do/be?

luthen.inadon interesting...I must say I hadn't really thought of the possibility that Shaidar Haran might be possessed...I shall think on it... It seemed kinda obvious to me. I mean Every time someone meets Shadar Haran for the first time, they remark how he isn't normal. Considering he's already an Eyeless Trolloc-offspring who can travel through shadows...thats saying alot. I don't have page numbers, but they're always like "Man, didn't think Lurks had a sense of humor. Or smiled. Or did all that other weird stuff that Shaidar Haran does." AND: the ceiling leading to the DO gives him plenty of room, if you'll recall. He was leading...Sammael? One of the Forsaken, annyway, and it barely let him out alive, he was crawling. But Shaidar Haran? Fine. Seems like the DO would only give that much room to...himself. Selfish b*****d.

And also, I think it makes sense for the DO to name himself (or extension of himself, whichever) Nae'blis...heck, no worries about backstabbing or anything.

Question: why are we all writing in white? Anyway, maybe now that Cadsuane and Nynaeve know about the Illness they can DO something about it (and about LTT/theFace)

I'm not writing in white because by now... anyone who doesn't want to know won't read.
if I remember right... harran was the hand of the dark one... therefore he would be an extension of sorts. bloody neverborn.
as for what the dark on is... I'd support him being one made powerful by the Aelfinn. seeing as the creator has only been mention, as for him doing anything whatsoever to help there isn't. at least not what I've seen. therefore the creator most likely either doesn't care... or didn't make leafblighter. if anything rand is the other half of the DO that has to be there to balance it out... if he was made immortal perhaps they were friends then enemies then the dragon sealed him... and the true power... I've been trying to figure that out, those who channel it get those spots in their eyes and rand could see the strings attaching them to leafblighter. so there must be something there.
oh and the second doorway was in mayene then went somewhere else... it was in the stone of tear for a time. read about Eelfinn in the glossary. it says it all.

But it can't be from the Aelfinn. Remember: all questions touching on the Shadow are "dangerous". And the treaty w/ the Aelfinn/Eelfinn is from before the Breaking, since they can only be reached through ter'angreals (which no one can make anymore) and speak the Old Tongue.

Erin Sovenya luthen.inadon Erin Sovenya luthen.inadon do not read the white text if you haven't read Winter's Heart (9) Rand is currently sick due to the taint on the Power, and now that he's cleansed the source, his illness will obviously not get worse, but will it get any better? I love coding... Not unless Nynaeve discovers another "impossible" Healing weave, which she just might. Even better would be if Logain/an Asha'man managed to Heal him. Who is the Asha'man wonderboy? I forget his name sweatdrop I believe you're referring to Damer Flinn... Yes! Flinn! I can't wait till he meets Nynaeve. She's going to flip that someone else figured out how to Heal stilling/gentling. She's going to compete with him, just you wait and see.D'you think Nynaeve would do away with him to make sure he won't take her place as Healer Supreme of Randland? I mean, there were times when I thought she was going to rip out her braid and use it to strangle Moiraine or Siuan or one of the Windfinders or something...

The thing is, would echoes of a past life actually be considered crazy? If it's not an illness, can it be cured? I look at it as fuzzy at best. Obviously, the voice in Rand's head is nuttier than a batch of Pecan Sandies, but aside from well-learned lessons in paranoia and the occasional mild blur Rand's more or less okay, and he can tell when his alter ego is being a total nutjob. Can anyone retroactively make the spirit of a past life sane? I...kinda doubt it.
