Chel had been looking out the window, watching the small stretch of coastal scrub fade into something more urban. She looked back at him; she hadn't shrugged because she wasn't sure what he was talking about.
She hadn't shrugged yet.

Chel snickered at the suggestion. "Oooh Jackie boy got a crush on me." She thought it was a joke, that it was just Jack's usual deadpan humor.
"Show up with flowers an' chocolate an' I might bend a knee fer ya." She slapped her own leg at the image. "Naw I'm kiddin'- I dunno 'bout which one." She gave a shrug now. "What's out right now?"

Either he was annoyed by the chocolate and flowers routine or by the shrug he had foreseen. Or both. "I don't know. Check it out," he told her. "You have service on that thing, right?"

She pulled out her phone and frowned. "Yeah jus' give me three ********' years," she muttered. Her fingers were still tapping the question out though.

"Eh, yeah," she said. Shun had shown her that text to speech app. "It's annoying t'use 'cause-"
She opened the app and it greeted her with a shrill female voice that sounded freakishly perky. "Meet the girl scout from hell," she said with a snort.

"Well then." Digging into his pocket, Jack pulled his phone out and held the home button. "Siri, what movies are playing right now?"
After a slight pause, a cool female voice stated that it had found the following movies and listed them on the screen. He offered the phone to Chel. She wouldn't be able to actually access the phone itself without inputting the passcode, so he felt secure in passing it over.

Chel would have used Siri if her phone was new enough to have it. Her phone was a crappy beat up phone from ages ago; being poor did that to you.
"Which one sounded good?" she asked. "Wait are we goin' now?" Chel always had questions.

She spent the time contemplating if Jack had really meant to ask for a date. The thought made her ... tired. She found herself hoping it really was his deadpan humor.
When he spoke up again she rolled her eyes. "They're aight. I had worse."
