It was also much harder to see at this particular zoo, though. The humans poked and prodded at each other in an attempt to get to the exhibits. They seemed, well, selfish.
They didn't see how hot the little girl there was getting, or the way she stumbled as she walked. Hachi did, though, and he only had to wait a few minutes for her to look up and see him. "You're safe, now," he told her. She could fall into his arms, and her little soul would come sparkling into the Vocivus.

It was back to the same zoo for Hachi. He could see another Aeterna weaving through the crowds, and he chanced a wave for him. There was nothing like friendship among comrades, right?

They split ways there - a place like this was crowded enough that there was plenty to do. Certainly, zoos had zookeepers (apparently?), but they only minded the humans.
Besides, this particular zoo wasn't anywhere near a hospital.

Then again, he wouldn't wish a place like this upon any dog. Perhaps it was full of interesting people, but they were mean and pushy and tired. Hachi preferred to hunt for souls where people who deserved a place in the vocivus spent their time.

Ugh - he had to stop distracting himself with this drivel. He had a goal, he reminded himself - and by Jove, he'd get there.
On a bench was a middle-aged woman who appeared to be asleep. Hachi knew better, though - the soul that glittered about her moved, which meant it was ready to come with him. He approached it slowly.

It'd flown off. Caught in a laugh, Hachi gave chase. It was clearly of more interest than the woman it'd come from!

It had the advantage of knowing he was there, and not wanting to come with, though. It didn't matter - Hachi went for the capture, and felt the mass of it settle within his fingers. He knew how to deal with this situation much better than it did.

This one was a little more humane - instead of cages were habitats again. It still wasn't as expansive as the first, although Hachi was beginning to suspect that that one had been a rare find.

A frowny-faced someone holding a harnessed dog walked by, and Hachi flew over with interest. SERVICE DOG, the harness read. What did that mean? The canine was large and dark, and when Hachi ran his fingers through the short furs of her head, she didn't respond.
