Tetroneaque was impressed with how effortlessly she made it look to use the Force. In almost no time at all she'd uncovered the core and placed the basketball sized object among the other pieces of salvage he'd already collected. His tails were wagging excitedly, knowing that he'd no longer have to start from scratch with his work. Perhaps he could build a more stable portal this time! Yet seeing Janlu as a Kit'aru he no longer craved to leave and return to his own kind. For the first time he felt like this might actually belong somewhere.
"Thank you Janlu. For... everything today." He said shyly, not ready to voice whatever budding feelings he was having toward the shape shifter. Then to keep the moment from becoming awkward he turned his attention back to the crater they were standing in. "I think we might be able to find a few more items of use... but that core will be a huge help for me!"

Janlu wagged her tails happy to be of help, "You are most welcome! Is there any more you'd like to retrieve now or shall we take what we have and come back later for more?" she asked, tilting her head. She wondered if they would be going back, in which case she would surely return to her usual form, but for now, she felt there was no need and she had no preference to stay or change back. She didn't know what went into building his little contraption, but it seemed he had found the key component in good condition. Maybe he did have a chance to return home, but it looks like he would need a ship once his device is in working order. Janlu stayed where she was, awaiting an answer before doing anything else.

Tetroneaque had the same train of thought as Janlu, that if they returned now that she'd most likely change back to her 'normal' form... and he really would rather spend a little more time with her as she was currently. He decided to look for more parts he could use. "I'd like to get everything I can in this one trip. Chances are that we'll get anything worth salvaging all in this go anyway. It seems that the ship's destruction was rather more dramatic than I'd first thought. I mean the explosion sent the core straight down into the ground so deep! Unfortunately most of my other devices were not nearly as sturdy as the core." It was all true of course, yet it made for an excellent cover to spend a little more time alone with Janlu in her new fuzzy form.

Janlu nodded, accepting Tetro's logic, "Okay then..." She wasn't quite sure how she could help much for the moment since Tetro knew what he needed and didn't. She decided to wait by the ship until he was ready, sitting on the edge with her feet dangling. Such a nice day, she looked to the trees, where there were any in the area, and observed the wildlife as she waited.

Tetroneaque felt a little disappointed that Janlu decided to wait nearby instead of walking with him and had to content himself with sneaking a glance at her every now and then as he continued to search through the debris. He managed to find an entire storage container of spare parts he'd had on his ship, the container itself surviving the wreck and protecting the contents admirably.
After about another half hour of combing the crash site he determined that he'd found everything of value and hauled his cargo back toward their ship. His tails were wagging as he actually managed to pull off another smile toward Janlu. "That's everything I could find. It's more than I thought I'd get to be honest, and I have you to thank for the most important part we found." He was tempted to hug Janlu but didn't want to press his luck, instead he offered his hands for a handshake as they'd discussed that was usually the social norm.

Janlu hopped up to her feet when Tetro said he was ready, nearly tripping on her oversized robes with a small yelp and widened eyes. "Eep! Heheh...I guess I forgot," she admitted, adjusting her clothes and filling them as she returned to her usual form, "It'll be much easier for me to fly like this," she winked innocently. "So, you're going to try rebuilding your device?" she asked curiously as she set up for take off.

Tetroneaque hid his disappointment of Janlu changing back to her normal form, finding his Kit'aru form much nicer. He nodded his head though at the question. "Well I'm trying to build something similar. I think it might be better to build a stationary portal that opens up another at a specific point in space that meets a certain criteria I'll program in. Hopefully this will let me find other worlds that haven't been discovered yet without having to rely on a starship, thus avoiding another catastrophic crash." The Kit'aru explained as he loaded the containers into their current ship and then sat down in the cockpit next to Janlu.
Tetroneaque was feeling a lot less lonely now after seeing Janlu become a Kit'aru. She had been so kind to him, always concerned about how he was doing. He decided that he'd tell her how he felt once they returned to the Temple, perhaps after showing her what he'd accomplished in his lab so far. After all, maybe she felt the same way toward him? The thought was enough to make him smile again. It seemed that he'd finally got the hang of that facial expression.

Janlu was intrigued with the technology Tetro spoke of, sounding like it was old news and yet very important. "That's very interesting," she voiced sincerely, shutting down the engines as they docked. She chuckled upon seeing him smile, "Looks like you finally got that smiling down," she remarked, shuffling the fur on his head and returning a small smile of her own. As she got up, she went over to help Tetro gather the collected parts to take to his lab.

Tetroneaque smiled a little wider as Janlu pet him again, now sure that he should tell her how he felt once they reached the lab. He and Janlu easily loaded the salvaged parts they'd found onto a small hover transport and were soon guiding it toward the converted storage area. When they arrived the doors opened automatically. Unlike Thanatos' lab, Tetro's lab was open to anyone who wished to enter during most of the day.
Tetroneaque was feeling rather nervous, though his tails were wagging too. It didn't take long for Janlu and himself to unload the hover transport and soon the moment he was both dreading and looking forward to had arrived. After making sure they were quite alone he shuffled nervously up to Janlu and cleared his throat. "Th-thank you Janlu. I really appreciate everything you've done for me since the day you saved my life. I don't think I would have been able to cope so well without your friendship..." he paused then as he sorted out his thoughts then pushed onward with what he needed to say. "And since we're friends, well I thought that I should tell you that... er, well... I've started hoping that maybe we could be more than friends? I've been feeling like that for awhile now, but seeing you become a Kit'aru only made my feelings more easy to identify... What I'm trying to say Janlu is that I like you... as more than a friend." There, he'd said it. It was out there. He looked up at Janlu hopefully, sincerely wishing that she felt the same about him.

Janlu was more than happy to help out. It really was a pleasure for her to do things for others especially friends, but she noticed Tetro's flustered actions all too late to realize what had been building. She should have known! She should have, but her mind was too preoccupied to think about such things. Not wanting to hurt the poor fellow, she tried to let him down gently, "Oh....Tetro...If I've mislead you in any way, I'm sorry....As much as I love you, I really don't feel that way for you...and...well...to top it all, my heart is already spoken for." She turned her head away with that last part, a bit giddy with the thought and a bit ashamed to be in this predicament. Janlu really didn't want to let anyone down, but she couldn't possibly let Tetro think there was a chance of something more, it was best to crush his hopes now than to deceive and hurt the both of them miserably.

Tetroneaque's ears drooped with disappointment and he felt a pressure in his chest that made it hard to breathe for a moment. He should have known that someone like Janlu was already spoken for. It was foolish for the Kit'aru to think she could ever have had the same feelings toward him, yet those realizations didn't make it any easier to handle. The fuzzy little fellow thought he might start crying at any moment, but made sure he didn't so in front of Janlu.
Tetroneaque took a deep breath to calm himself and then nodded. "I see... I hope we can still be friends?" He may not be able to take things to another level with Janlu, but he'd hate himself if his bumbling had alienated him from a real friend. It was hard to even ask that question as he wanted nothing more than to run away and hide at the moment.

Janlu was a bit saddened to have to do this, but it had to be done. At least it seemed he was taking it well enough, "Of course we can still be friends, silly," she replied cheerfully to reassure him, but she could still feel plenty of tension in the air. Perhaps it was best to leave him to his own thoughts for the moment. She had to think up an excuse, valid and true as it was, it was for the better, "I should make sure the ship is in perfect condition before leaving it...I'll see you later," she said with a sincere smile as she left Tetro to his lab.

Tetroneaque gave a weak little smile toward her, feeling like he'd made a complete fool of himself. As soon as Janlu left the room he locked the doors. He had been foolish, he knew that. There wasn't any real place for him in this new galaxy that he could see. Sure there was a lot to learn and see, but it was all at the cost of never fitting in and that soul crushing lack of someone he could really connect with.
The Kit'aru sat down on an empty container and started to cry softly. He'd never wanted to go home so much in his entire life. Home. The word rang inside his head. He sniffled a little and looked up and over at the core he'd salvaged today. Yes... that was the answer. He'd find a way home.
