Fate cleared a second heavy machine gun nest, and turned the gun around, opening fire with the heavy caliber weapon on those it was meant to protect. Swarms of them just kept coming, and he had to wonder for a moment how much Voss had made off the stolen technology to hire this many hardened thugs to fight for him. No doubt it was probably as much as he made on any two jobs he himself took.

The heavy gun ran dry finally, and he drew his laser pistols again, sending a rain of scorching shots into the thugs. They were getting closer to the ore hauler, he could finally see it in the distance. The thugs were also increasing in competence, with nearly all of them now wearing armor, and deploying numerous heavy weapons, missiles, mortars, and more flame troops. It would take everything they had to punch through them.

Fate had the first line of defense covered, however, as he launched back towards his allies with his jetpack, hurling grenades at the fortified positions. The grenades, costly ones bought from a corrupt quartermaster from the Imperial Army, were filled with nerve gas, and quickly took out all nearby but the heavy troops, who had sealed armor, leaving them a tough line of over a dozen heavy troops, carrying everything from plasma rifles, rocket launchers, and flamethrowers.

Fate landed, and sought out Brugunn.

"They are falling back, but have many heavy troops left. If we can make one last good punch through them, we may be able to make them break entirely if they see the best troops they have fall."

Silently following Sluc, here exploration HUD was still active. So as she was lead through the Mika, a new map was being made and the blips for details were going up like crazy. All said UNKNOWN DATA, and it was making her slightly agitated, enough to make her turn off that feature. Upon being offered a cookie, she couldn't help but facepalm slightly.
"Yes, sure. I'll gladly take a cookie I can't taste nor eat without it making crumbs I would have to clean out of every part in my body."
The sarcasm was hard to pick up, since her feminine voice didn't hold a lot of emotion. She tried to connect to any possible wireless connections on this ship, but none were available due to the ship being offline.
"If there is anything I want, it is data on just what in the sweet name of android hell is going on in this crazy place?!"
Her voice increased in volume slightly to simulate anger. But she wasn't mad at them, just upset at how these turn of events were going for her thus far.

Amari blinked a bit and tilted her head, a bit perplexed at MEaSU's words. Sluc explained for her as she sat down in a chair and put her feet on the table. "She's a robot."

"Ohhhhhhhhh." Amari nodded. She looked down at the cookie jar she held then over to Sluc. "Then do you want a cookie since I have the jar out?"

Sluc joined MEaSU in facepalming. "No thanks Amari." Amari shrugged and took a cookie out and began to nibble it, feeling a bit awkward. Sluc turned back to the robot and answered her. "Very well, I'll explain. Our team was assigned to hunt after a rogue imperial commander. Apparently, he's made a lot of money so he's hired practically a whole battalion to protect him. He caught wind that we were trying to get him and got his men to attack us in hopes to eliminate us. This being an imperial station, the zones of combat are locked down to prevent too much collateral damage, but seals anyone in the combat zones in. So right now, the rest of our team is fighting the rogue forces. Our ship is being loaded onto the same ore hauler that the rouge commander is on, basically as a surprise attack and a back up plan." Sluc raised an eyebrow. "Does that explanation suffice miss...?" She realized she hadn't gotten a name yet.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 18, 2011 2:12 pm

MEaSU was silent as Sluc explained everything to her. She was recording everything said as an audio file to save and back-up. As everything was explained, some of her strategy software was booting up.
Formulating possible strategies....
"Oh, that's right. By Imperial protocol, I was suppose to give my name and rank upon first meeting you. Of course, they are just words in a book..."
She replied upon being asked her name. Although protocol, she never followed them through and through. As much as they wanted to, the Empire's scientists just didn't want to risk losing more computers just to rewrite her entire personality.
"But I shall answer out of courtesy. I am the Imperial Military's Military Exploration and Saboteur Unit. However, just say MEaSU. It'll make those silly lungs less tired."
She smirked slightly, since the thoughts of lungs betraying humans was a common sight for her.
"And yes, that explanation was more than helpful. Thank you [insert name here]."
She said this with a smile, though her voice changed to a sort of 'default female' voice at the point of not knowing her name.
"Sorry, I must have been so busy with protocols and trying to find a wireless network, I forgot to ask your names as well."
She could pick up other networks, but these were faint in connection and not useful to her. If she had a connection, she could interface with the station's mainframe and she'd be set. She could get all the data she needed about the station, and possibly think of something to help the fighters outside. After all, they were after the rogue commander; and in a sense, she was as well. Not for payment, but because this person is a threat to the Imperial Army, and thus, a threat to her.

Grace chuckled dryly as Gar-ne passed her the machine gun-- it almost seemed like no one wanted the thing. She would have said as much, too, if she hadn't been distracted by a mortar bringing part of the ceiling crashing down.

"Let's dance," she muttered, wincing suddenly as she recalled that that had been one of her father's many catchphrases. She adjusted her grip on the machine gun slightly and opened fire, tearing through any poor, unarmed moron who got within her range.

Before long, though, they were down to nothing but heavily armored troops with all sorts of unfriendly-looking weapons, and Grace frowned. She knew her laser pistols had long since become worthless for this fight, and the machine gun might not do her any good now... She checked the weapon nonetheless as she took cover behind a pile of rubble to consider her options.

There was one option, she knew, that would definitely work, but she would only have one chance at it, and she wasn't sure exactly how many of the soldiers she would be able to take out. On top of that, she would probably need someone to cover her... She glanced over at Gar-ne for a second, then decided against it quickly. The girl was too good of a shot; they needed her on offense, not as a defender.

Her grey eyes flicked to where Fate was talking to Brugunn, and she sighed. "Sorry," she muttered, more to herself than to anyone in particular, "but I think I may have to do something incredibly stupid."

They had moved up faster than Brugunn was expecting. Good, that would mean the back lines wouldn’t have had as much time to prepare. And, Vox would be a lot more panicked. Brugunn walked his way forth, out in the open, hand guns outstretched as they blazed into the targets that were much easier to see out in the open. Around him, shell exploded and flew over his head as Miele and Gar-ne aimed and fired according to his instructions. As the group pushed forward towards the heavy troops, Brugunn ducked behind cover again and motioned for the others to move up. So now they had weeded through the weak and had come up against the much tougher troops. Brugunn began going through some options in his head. Straight explosives probably wouldn’t help. It would create a lot of knockback, but none of them were fast enough to break through with that strategy. Brugunn considered doing the ceiling drop trick Miele employed earlier. They certainly had enough explosives, but this also ran the risk of blocking off the passage entirely. Then the only operatives on the hauler would be Sluc and Amari. Not that they couldn’t handle themselves, but that lowered chances of success.

Then someone else spoke up. It was kind of soft, but the gunfire had ceased for the moment while the hired troops were getting into position. Brugunn turned to the woman who had joined them earlier and had fought with them up until now. “What is it?” He asked urgently. If she had a plan, it would be best to implement it as soon as possible. Gar-ne and Miele continued firing their weapons, pinning the enemy troops down with mortars and explosive shells until they had a plan.

“A military exploration and saboteur unit..” Sluc murmured, quite interested as she looked MEaSU up and down. “…kinda weird you would be stuck around this station then.” Sluc blinked as MEaSU regarded her as ‘[insert name here].’ She smiled a bit. “I’m Sluc, and as she already said, the motherly woman eating a cookie is Amari.” She then thought about what MEaSU said. “So you can connect to wireless networks? Does that include the surveillance systems of the space station? What do you need to connect? Is being in the Mika interfering or anything?”

As the man she now knew to be Brugunn turned to her, having apparently overheard her mutterings, Grace shook her head. "It's a terrible idea, really," she said defensively. "It probably wouldn't even be worth the trouble."

He gave her a look that suggested that he might think otherwise, however, and Grace shrugged, looking away awkwardly for a moment.

"I'm trained in psionics," she began. "Well, telekinesis at least... And I thought, since the weapons I have are going to be basically useless against these guys, if we could buy ourselves a few minutes, and afford to give me some cover fire..." She trailed off, then spoke again. "When I was a little girl, my father used to have me practice my telekinesis with metal cans. He would have me move them around, flip them over, open them... One day, I figured out how to crush them by manipulating the air pressure inside them until they basically imploded... I don't see why I couldn't use the same principles on these guys.

"It's taxing, and I would probably only be able to do a handful-- three or four, most likely-- before I pass out... And I'll probably be out for at least a couple hours." She shook her head again. "You see what I mean? The risks outweigh the benefits."

Fate could see the form of Jahn Voss, marshaling his remaining troops. He turned to Grace, who was planning something stupid.

"Don't even think about it. We need everyone here to fight. We can't afford to-"

He stopped speaking suddenly, as he saw Voss heft a grenade launcher and fire. His helmet tracking systems caught the grenade, bringing up the specs on it. Impossible...

He turned to the others waving his hands.

"Get down, vortex grenade!"

Highly experimental, and hard for even him to get ahold of, Vortex grenades made a small black hole that lasted for only moments, but was devastating among clustered infantry. He knew he had one shot to stop it, and grabbed a dropped pistol from one of the thugs, locked on, and fired.

The solid slug round hit the grenade, bouncing it back to the enemy lines. General confusion and panic took over when it went off, sucking every last one of Voss's troops into it, aside from him and his personal group of eight men, who retreated back into the ore hauler, upon seeing this reversal of fortune.

"Now is our chance, lets get over there and bring him out.", said Fate. He pulled up the station's systems, noting that Brugunn's ship was still a few minutes from being loaded into the hauler, and with Voss and his men inside, the security systems would undoubtedly be activated.

Grace gave Fate what might have been a scathing look, but started towards the hauler nonetheless, checking her weapons as she did so.

"Vortex grenade, huh," she said to Fate as they moved. "I'm going to have to remember that one... See how long it takes before I can get my hands on--" she fell silent abruptly, reminding herself that the others in their group didn't know about her occupation. While she doubted any of them would turn her in, or even pose a threat, she had to admit, she had been wrong about people before...

A soft beep on her comm headset alerted her to an incoming message.

"It's a good thing you stopped, Alexander... Our companions work for the empire."

Grace gave Fate a barely-perceptible nod, then said to the group, "We should move... The sooner we can get to the hauler, the sooner Voss is out of our hair."

Fate continued with his covert transmission to Grace.

"He is a disgraced commander. Him and his crew all have ties to the Imperial Military, but its very shady, like they all were disgraced or quit some time ago. Its hard to tell if the truly serve the Empire still or not, but I wouldn't doubt it."

Fate silently thanked his computer's advanced algorithm cracking software that had hacked into the station's computers and found the information on Brugunn. He didn't hate the man, having spent time with the Empire himself, he just didn't trust him, or his crew.

He turned to the others, reloading and readying his weapons.

"Lets advance. The bulk of his troops are gone, it will be simple to take him."

Fate,Grace, and the others advanced, until they were about seventy five yards from the still-open hatch in the massive ore hauler. Fate froze when he heard the speakers come to life, holding up a hand for his companions to stop moving. The voice of Jahn Voss came through clearly.

"You all have been so troublesome...I think you can all just die now."

A massive explosion lifted all of them off their feet, throwing them back several feet. The blast ripped into the walls of the station, as well as the fuel lines for the ship, sending rippling explosions throughout both. The part of the station they were on tore free of the rest of the station, leaving the crippled ore hauler the only way to survive as the air was sucked out from decompression. The emergency blast doors on the now free-floating section were still powered, but as the last lines tore free of the station, they would lose power and stop, leaving them all frozen and lifeless.

Fate yelled in the thinning air., motioning to the still open hatch in the ore hauler.

"We have to get inside the hauler! We'll all die out here if we don't get inside and get to our ships!"

Indeed, for his ship had contacted him when the blasts occurred, after it mapped the damage extent and the trajectory, showing they had less then one hour before both the massive chunk of the station and the hauler crashed into a planet covered in highly explosive crystals.

Names and photo I.D. acquired for: Sluc and Amari.
While her process of identification was finalizing, she frowned slightly at the barrage of questions.
"Please slow down, I'm not like other robots you may know."
She said with a sigh as she had to playback the questions asked of her a few times.
"First, yes. Originally meant for connecting to the Imperial databases only, I have upgraded it to perform a handful of more useful tasks. Including hacking."
She smirked as she got ready to answer the second question.
"I can do more than hack some security cameras. I can interact with this entire loading facility. I can have the loading claws grab and tear things in my place. If this place has a weapon defense system, just let me know who not to hit between the eyes."
The third question played back, but also felt like answering the fourth question at the same time. This time she was more serious as her boastful tone was gone as quickly as it appeared.
"Well, I can connect fine on my own. But I like to be efficient, namely quick. So I'll interface with something else for a performance boost, kind of like giving more power to an antenna. However,"
She smirked. She was preparing a wisecrack of some sort.
"Its sorta difficult to interface with something that is offline. I mean, I could hack in and turn everything on myself, but that is just too troublesome when the owners are right here in front of me."
The explosions from outside made her eyes widen, and looked around. That did not sound good at all. This made her agitated.
"Son of a-seriously? Explosions were cliche back then, and they still are now! Ugh.... Don't tell me I should do what I think my strategy software is telling me to do. Gonna have to do so much if I have to...."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 7:08 pm

Grace took off towards the hauler with the others, making her way towards the open hatch. Although there was still enough air for them to survive in for the time being, she could feel it thinning a little at a time-- it became harder to catch her breath as she ran, and by the time she stumbled inside, she was winded, although the short run there normally would have barely affected her.

"This really isn't how I planned on spending my day," she muttered, and straightened herself up.

"Everyone made it here alive, at least... That's good, I suppose..." She staggered suddenly as the falling hauler lurched. "s**t... We're gonna have to hurry."

Fate took a gamble using his jetpack, since it might use up enough air to suffocate his companions all the more faster, but everyone made it inside the open hatch, which he then closed by smashing the emergency sealing switch. The entire ship seemed bathed in blood, as emergency power was the only remaining source of light.

He turned to his companions, addressing them all.

"These haulers tend to crash one way or the other...looks like this one is going down nose first, with a full load of ore. If we are going to escape, we have to activate the anti gravity generators to level the ship so the remaining security systems still online will allow us to open the docking bay blast doors and escape. Our ships are held over the doors, but there's a console nearby that will extend a magnetic docking ramp to your ship, then lower it, then the command to open the blast doors will be available, and don't worry about being sucked into space, the magnetic shields all docking bays have will keep the atmosphere stable long enough to board your ship, power up, and hopefully escape in one piece."

Grace nudged him on the shoulder, a quizzical look on her face.

"Yes, I have been in this situation before...though the last time, it was an accident."

It was obviously more then that, as he left out who's fault it had been, as well as if the ship had truly crashed or not.

"So, where are these anti-gravity generators," Grace asked. "If they're scattered around, it would probably be easier for us to split up to try to find them, wouldn't it?"

She wouldn't say it out loud, but she wanted to be certain her ship was alright... She had built most of the Endeavour herself, taking a few parts from junked ships and assembling what she couldn't find from pieces and scraps she bought or stole from other smugglers. The system was complex, since it was customized, but she knew that because it was designed to be manned by a single person, it would be a target for anyone in a near-death situation like this... And that was exactly what this was, so her ship was exactly what Voss needed.

The problem was, she reminded herself, this hauler was huge, and she had no idea how to navigate it-- this was the first time she had ever been inside one (she didn't make a habit of going on crowded ships-- it wasn't good for business if everyone and their brother knew when there were illegal sales going down).

Fate winced slightly at her words.

"There is one at the bottom of the ship, on that spar like projection you see on most of them, accessible by an elevator shaft. The second is on the bridge, which obviously, is at the top of the ship. The third is right by the hatch that leads to the docking bays. I have my jetpack, so I can get to the bridge using one of the elevator shafts, someone can take my climbing gear and get to the lowest one, the rest head for the last one. Remember, we have less then an hour by my estimates, especially with a full load of ore in this ship."

He pointed to his left.

"This way leads to the bridge. Opposite way heads to the lower observation deck, and the final console. If you head that way," he said, pointing towards the far wall, "It will take you to the docking bays and the other console. You may have to find auxiliary generators to power the consoles, most of the power is already offline from the catastrophic damage that blast caused."
