"Sorry." said Ria, with a genuine look of apology. "You should've said so earlier; I would've opened it outside instead."
She waved goodbye to Ms Hannigan, and left with Sam.
"Okay, so your dorm should be on the first floor. I picked up your key and stuff from Reception just now."
She passed him a brown A4 envelope containing a map, timetable, door plaque, and key.
"The plaque has your name on it; you have to stick it on your door under the number."
They began to climb the marble staircase to the 1st floor, and, when they reached the top, Ria turned left. They began walking down a long corridor with doors every nine metres or so. Occasionally they'd pass a turning for another corridor of doors.
"The common room's somewhere to the right of that staircase, by the way. And your room should be... here!"
They'd reached his door.

Ria nodded. "Yeah, it's should be in there. What classes have they put you in? If you don't enrol they put you in classes based on your powers, but you can change them."
She brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes, and looked at him expectantly, stalling because Ms Hannigan had asked her to keep an eye on him for the next few days.

Ria smiled. "I have Invisibility and Forcefields"
She fiddled with her hair for a few seconds; a lone purple curl had escaped her ponytail and crept down the side of her face.
"Oh shoot; I promised my Physics teacher I'd help set up an experiment. Oh! How about I call my friend to help you find your way to class? Combat's way round the back of the school, but she has it next too, so she could show you."
Putting up a finger in the universal 'just a second' sign, she pulled out her mobile phone, and pressed speed-dial 1.
"Hi!... Oh, you heard?... No, no way!... Listen, can you do me a favour?... Yeah, he's in your class now... 1st floor, room 8?... Okay, see you at lunch."
She turned back to Sam.
"Okay, so you have a while before you have to go to class, so you can get your stuff or whatever, and Kate'll meet you here in 5 minutes. See you!"
She opened a wormhole, barely opening it enough to fit through, and dashed through. It snapped shut the second she'd disappeared.

Kate knocked three times in quick succession on Alex's door.
"Hey, new guy? You in there?"
She knocked three times again, then shoved her hands in her coat pockets and waited. Her outfit today consisted of a white blouse, black denim shorts, and black and white converse, with a black leather jacket for warmth's sake. It all contrasted with her cropped ginger hair, and big green eyes.

Kate flinched and sent waves of static electricity radiating out from her skin, as Sam fell through her. It gave him a slight shock and left his hair standing on end.
"Ha, that's what you get for walking through people." She muttered.
Then she smiled, and stuck out her hand. "Sam right? I'm Kate."
Realising her hand was still crackling with energy, she withdrew it. "Maybe not."
Eyes glinting, she looked him up and down. "So, you do combat, huh? That should be interesting. Come on." At the last, she turned on her heel and starting walking quickly down the corridor.

Kate shrugged as she said "I'm normally good at not shocking people, if I concentrate, but when people, y'know, walk through me or something..." she shot a pointed look at him. "Well, it catches me unawares."
She continued walking quickly; they were going to be late, and Ms Natami did not like tardiness.
"So, let me guess, phasing? Right? Do you have Forcefields and Invisibility with Ria? I'm guessing that's your best bet for phasing."
With a slight tilt of her head, she turned off the lights as they went past them down the corridors. Wasted electricity was a bad thing, in her opinion. Forget the ice caps; she needed it to practice with.

It should have been more like: "Sorry about that; still getting used to it, and yeah I have it, how about you? Other than elemental control of electricity and combat, what else do you have?" Notice I corrected the spellings and capitalised the damn 'I' again. ]]

Kate shrugged. "Physics and Mathematics. Sometimes I try other subjects, like last year I took Forcefields, but there's only so much you can do with just the one main power, and I like to develop the others in my own time."
She shut her mouth again, leaving him to squirm. She casually sparked her hands up again, for a few seconds, then let the energy dissipate.

Kate nodded. "Yep. Well, they're normally more like sub-powers, y'know - offshoots of the main power. So, if somebody's a really strong telepath, they'll probably develop another mental power or two, like mind control, or telekinesis." she said, before adding "Loads of people with physical powers don't do that though." She felt kind of sorry for him; by the look of surprise on his face, he only had the one power.
Smugly, she thought of her (currently rather small) forcefield ability.
