Violet Я. Яavencroft
"Don't be humble, you're not that great."

Lena squealed as she saw the corpse, hiding behind Violet's leg childishly. Violet took the child's delicate hand in her own, giving it a small squeeze. But as Lena heard Troa's joke, she giggled and Violet smiled at him. But this smile soon turned into mock offense. "No! How could I be beaten by a child?!" She cried with mock horror, tickling Lena's belly. Lena laughed, before running off into the kitchen, where Violet had laid out a bowl of pasta for the child on the kitchen table. "I thought you said you were terrible with kids?" She asked, arching an eyebrow and placing a hand on her hip.

After a moment, she spied one of Lena's toys lying on the floor. A small fluffy pink bunny, slightly dog eared, lay limp. She picked it up and placed it on the stairs, for Lena to grab on the way up.

Troa looked over at Violet with a small smile as she tickled Lena. Glancing over as Lena started to play with a stuffed animal. Looking over at Violet, he smirked before speaking. "Only if I wanna attempt to impress someone." He said, giving her a playful wink. "Anyway, what do ya got to eat? I'll throw summin together as payment for room and board." He said with a shrug, smirking a little as he pulled a chair out and sat down.

Analise Tertanxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx User Image
Momentarily, Ana wondered if Sam was coming, or if he was going to sketch it out more. Just as she turned back to call him an idiot, she saw him coming, and dropped the idea. Even she found it irritating when people told her to hurry up.

Her whole body shuddered between the cold and the storm once she stopped running. There was a fear in the air too heavy to deny. Magic? Most likely. She hated that feel, even if her jacket was crawling with it. At least her mind could calm that down with reason. This, she could not.

"Yes, we should show it to him now," Ana said. As much as she didn't want to be around for the fireworks, she wanted to see what terrors would come this time. She also knew sleep would not be an option, in case their roof leaked and she needed to spring into action.

Ana returned to a slower pace as she turned to the direction of the workshop. She didn't knock or call out, just looking around for where this man was. Considering Ana delighted more in his robot companion, she saw it/him first. Ana walked on over to it, figuring if it was on, he could direct her to the mechanic. If not, well, it'd be nice to see some living technology again. Of course, he was off for whatever reason.

Ana studied its face for a moment before looking up to see the mechanic not too far away, working on a vehicle of another sort. "Hello," she said with little emotion.

Trent + Hector

Hector's eyes lit up dimly as he turned on. He stared up at the girl- Analise-Female-22-Architect -who had turned away from him. For a long moment he was quiet and still, hoping she would walk over to Trenton, or that the idiot screwhead would respond. However, neither happened, so Hector loathesomely contemplated the fact that he would have to probably start up completely, interact with a person, and direct them to Trenton. Or maybe just wake him up from his mechanical daydreaming. Then Hector wouldn't have to do anything much with the Analise at all. Despite his disgustingly positive outlook, Hector could not deny some loyalty and maybe even affection to his creator and companion. Well, not affection. At least, he hated Trenton a bit less than other people. Sighing inwardly (insofar as a robot can sigh at all) Hector whirred to life. He was rather sophisticated, so maybe the dramatic whirring and clacking that made it sound so difficult was a little overdone. But Hector felt he deserved some sympathy for this redundant quest that lay before him. He spoke.

"Analise. There's no point. He is not listening. Follow me, please."

Without really waiting for her to acknowledge him, he picked his way across the cluttered floor to where the Nutbrain fiddled with his latest fascination. It appeared to be some kind of mechanical limb. Normally, Hector didn't care what Trenton was doing. However, in this case he approved. Robotics were, quite obviously, superior to human meat. Hector wondered, however, where Trenton intended to use it, seeing as he still possessed all his original limbs. Maybe he would let Hector help him remove them to make room..

"Trenton, an Analise is here to see you. She did say hello. You weren't listening. So listen."

With that, Hector turned, more quickly than you would expect from his lethargic manner of speaking and walking, and returned to a comfortable (in robot terms) corner, and went to sleep again. Mostly.

Trenton stood hastily, and whirled to face Analise, stumbling a bit as he did so over his toolbox. He righted himself and stood up very straight, blushing furiously.

"I, ah, hi, An-na," he spoke too quickly and stuttered, and blushed still harder. He waved with the hand holding the mechanical arm, resulting in the arm waving floppily as well. Noticing this, he promptly dropped it, then winced at the crunchy sound it made against the floor.

"Sorry! Um. Do you need anything? It's just, I'm doing stuff too..Is it raining?.." He trailed off distractedly and peered out the door, and bent suddenly to pick up the arm again and placed it on his worktable.

"Not yet, eh. Um. Sorry. You just surprised me is all. What is it?"

Trenton started again as he noticed another girl enter behind Analise- then relaxed slightly as he recognized Sam's dreadfully feminine features and figure. The guy really gave him a turn now and again. He latched onto another male, however, with a certain measure of relief.

"Sam! I hope you're, uh well. Weathers, well, not nice, but normal eh?"

Trenton remembered too late that he possibly had less in common with Sam than he did with Analise.

SAM FOLLOWED Ana quietly, scribbling some extra details he remembered seeing into the terrible thirty-second sketch. It was significantly more difficult, he decided, drawing blocks and tubes and random octagonal hoops and doohickeys, than it was to draw simple biological creatures like dragons. At least nature didn't give him obscure looking masses of crumpled metal and plastic knowing someone would need to copy it down on paper someday.

Yeah. It definitely wasn't going to get any better. Ana needed to remember a camera next time.

Trenton's shop was a cute little thing. The mess around here made Sam cringe but there was something almost artistic about the way parts were strewn over the floor, the benches, the tabletops. He could acknowledge the man had talent where his work was concerned so he didn't bother with bringing up the subject of cleanliness with him. It was much the same way with how Trenton knew not to talk to Sam about his lavender --it wasn't pink, thanks --hair or the way his long eyelashes accentuated his silver eyes which sparkled in a terribly girly fashion.

Sam cleared off a section of a nearby table and promptly sat down on it. Hector had wheeled his way from Trenton, plopping down in a corner next to him with what sounded suspiciously like an indignant huff.

"Same old, eh? Any chance you'd accompany me the next time I make a trip into town?" There was no answer, but strangely that made him smile. "Where did we leave off, anyway? I think we were discussing the benefits of not having working limbs in the sea of absolutely-uncreative-names." He couldn't explain what compelled him to speak to the robot, nor why he did it with such enthusiasm. He did have a history of conversing with strange things, like plants and rocks, though so he put it down as ordinary behaviour.

At the mention of his name Sam peered inquiringly at the awkward fool, amused by the other man's blushing. The poor fellow really couldn't handle his women.

"I am well, thank you. Though I can't say the same for our dear world." Sam said. His feet were dangling off the floor, swinging softly to the rhythm of his musings. "Global temperatures have dropped by two degrees since last year, this time. They're projected to drop further come winter, not to mention the waters around Hepaeth are a whole half a degree colder."

Sam blinked those feminine lashes at Trenton, pulling off a look somewhere between mockingly coy and bored. "Normal probably isn't the right word."

A long pole dipped into a large dark vat and pulled from the murky liquid depths some bedraggled lengths of hide. The hide was then flung over the thick metal rail that ran along one edge of the makeshift tannery. Roni pulled one of the thick brown leather gloves off of her small pale hand and wiped the free hand across her brow. The weightloss had taken a fair amount of muscle with it and as such had made the tanning hard work.

Veronica came from a family of tanners and leatherworkers. Between her mother and father beautiful piece of leather were made in the traditional methods. Being the first child, both of her parents wanted to pass on their skills and so she was taught how to make and fashion the leather. The storm made her the only one left out of her family and she was determined to carry on the skills her parents had so lovingly given her.

Into the vat she shoved more hide before throwing her gloves onto the floor. She walked to the wall and slumped down against it, sliding until her bum hit the floor. She wrapped her arms around her legs and rested her forehead against her knees. Her dark brown hair fell down like curtains around her face. For a moment she let her mind go blank. It was light relief. She could, and did, invent enough work so that she didn't need to stop from the moment she woke to the moment she fell into her bed. Her mind didn't mind the toil but her body suffered. She didn't care about her own welfare.

Mostly Roni made boots and belts for the refugees which flooded to the camp in the valley outside Hepaeth. Many had walked for miles through newly made deserts and along tattered coasts to reach them. In return she was given food, shelter and somewhere to work. Even if her shelter was on the edge of the camp near the forest.

Analise's eyes made a quick return to the robot near her; hearing the familiar whirr of a machine booting up. "Good afternoon to you, Hector", she said as the robot went away to its master. She understood that the mechanic was busy, and she probably would have left him alone if Hector hadn't stepped in. However, it would have left a nasty feeling of leaving a project before it's proper time.

Ana followed after Hector, sticking her hands in the pockets sewn on the coat. Deep pockets were always nice and useful, even if they were near-empty at the moment. Except that gun, that she quickly realized might not be functioning enough to keep from firing during a quick jolt. Running would not be smart any longer. Ana now wondered why she didn't take anything more useful. Of course, useful meant more valuable.

Hearing a crash, Ana was jolted from her thought. Her eyebrows rose, and ears perked up. She opened her mouth to say something, but was continually cut off by more frantic statements, so she waited. The weather was trivial. Well, not trivial, it was relevant; it came later. One of the perks of being socially nearly-unconscious was she didn't notice the nervousness of others as much.

"We found a transportation machine. We figure you specialize more in these things than I. It has a few malfunctions, but I believe it is possible to get it working, even if it possibly uses... Sam's... talents," Ana said. She refrained from the word "magic", as if it might come alive and eat her. Yes, it didn't much affect her opinion of Sam as a person, but she couldn't help but be distracted by the magic itself. It had no reason. "I believe he has a rough picture of the main working systems," Ana said, turning around to see Sam.

Trent + Hector
As soon as Analise mentioned transportation, Trenton calmed down and paused, wondering what they could have found in the wastes immediately outside the city. However, Trenton didn't question their luck. He always figured that asking how it had happened would simply bring it crashing around their heads. Once in his own field of expertise, he left his former distracted air behind and focused on the task at hand. Gently wresting Sams notebook containing the sketch from him, he peered curiously at the tangled mass of pencil lines and smudges. He didn't pause at the quality- despite his own precision when creating sketches or blueprints, he could decipher almost anything that was supposedly mechanical. Trenton slowly made sense of what it was supposed to be. As near as he could guess, it was a form of reasonably old vehicle made during the war for the purpose of, well, transporting troops from one place to another. Judgeing by the identifying design around the tread-like wheel apparatus, it was specialized for wet and swampy territories. Trenton was mostly sure of his assessment, and he looked at Analise questioningly.

"What kind of condition was it in, and where did you find it? I would have expected the rains to wash it away by now."

If he could get his hands on it, Trenton hoped that with the spare parts that he had cannabalized from other, less complete wrecks that he had come across, he might be able to get it into some semblance of working condition. But then, he realized, he hadn't seen the real thing. Who knows how damaged it was, or even that his guess was right? Trenton shrugged inwardly. No way of knowing till he tried.

Hector, meanwhile. was trying very hard to overheat his internal battery and either blow a circuit and fall completely "unconcious" until Trenton saw fit to fix him- hopefully in a very long time- or simply explode. He didn't REALLY want the latter, but it would be an acceptable way out of...of...SAM. Hector stifled a robotic sob. WHywhywhywhywhyy did he talk to him? There was no good reason to talk so constantly! Hector always tried to hide before Sam saw him, but he had been to focused on Analise! Now it was too late; there was no dignified way to esca- retreat. Hector thought fast- and thats saying something- and rattled some parts around inside him and made a horrible coughing and wheezing noise before slumping in a way that suggested both death and malfunctions beyond repair.

SAM MADE no move to help Trent make sense of his sketch. With his severe lack of mechanical knowledge, he knew he'd be more of a hinder anyway. Best to leave these things to the experts. It was a shame people rarely encountered demons and dragons these days. Perhaps then he would feel a bit more useful.

So instead, Sam turned his attention back to the ever amusing antics of little Hector. The robot was fuming, quite literally, and pouting as if it were the most painful thing in the world. Sam supposed his feelings should have been hurt by the obvious dislike at his presence --he was only trying to be friendly --but something about dealing with spirits, who had on more than one occasion threatened the destruction of his sanity for calling them at such inappropriate times, hardened his heart for such rejections. Sam smiled. Well, maybe he'd try again some other day.

Remarkably, in a rare moment when some of the little tact he was blessed with showed itself, he did drop it. It was going to be difficult trying to cheer this hunk of metal up, especially since Hector seemed to abhor any talk he deemed unnecessary. Sam had thought of calling on the spirit who could whisk away worries with her songs, but he sincerely doubted it would work on beings without souls. As a matter of fact, it was already a strange anomaly beyond his reckoning that a soulless creature could even possess emotions such as sadness.

And because Sam was Sam, he wasn't about to pass up a chance to discover something new. If Hector refused his 'help,' Sam would reply with
"I'm only doing this for myself."

((Sure thing. 3nodding ))

Ronni lifted her head and looked about her. Nothing much had changed - different people walked past but that was about it. She raised herself off of the floor and ambled over to the vat. She lifted the long wooden stick and poked around in the fatty liquid. Although this was what she was physically doing her mind was elsewhere. It was trying to find something else for her to do. The pelt in the vat woudl take some time before it was ready and the stuff she had just removed would now need to hang. She had used the last of the leather making a plaitted belt that morning.

She needed to get some more buckles and pelt but she wasn't sure of which to do first. There was pleanty of daylight left so perhaps the walk into Hepaeth should take precedence.

Content that all else could wait Ronni grabbed her purse and left. She walked across the camp, which was now growing rather large, to the gate nearest Hepaeth. The guard held up his arm as a sign for her to stop. This was normal procedure so Ronni did as she as instructed. She explained why she need to go into town and the guard, knowing her trade, was satisfied.

In Hepaeth the tanner walked down still unfamiliar streets. She wasn't quite sure where she was going but was confident she would find what she was looking for. A smith or metal worker would have been ideal but a second hand and nik-nak shop would also have been great.
