Why did he want the books if he was afraid?
Why did he think that about the cat? I do agree that he does seem rather creepy though.
So, why is this act not proof that he'll fare well in the big bad world?

He explained to me later that the reason he had wanted all the books was because he was trying to find proof that the Cat was actually eating the children in the stories. As for why, he wouldn't say. Or couldn't. I'm fairly sure it was one of those automatic, unreasonable fears. Kind of like phobias.
And one act alone doesn't prove anything, Lillian. Those that think it does are either misguided or outright foolish.

I think that means he'll do well to be honest. Not the attack the cat part. But was scared because he thought the cat was eating kids, and he wanted the books for research material.
