Derrin,
Major Grouch

Just leave me alone

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cavalry in the distance, not close enough for the mage to hit but close enough to be an annoyance in the near future. Another mage down the street had spotted him and suddenly wind was washing over Derrin his hand with the fingers splayed out and stretched in front of his body at the center, blades of pure hardened air lashed out at him as they lapped hungerially at his flesh. Small cuts appeared in his tunic and cloak which was once again flaring out behind him, but Derrin was not worried in the least and actually smiled. The wind blades around him suddenly spread out as if they were no longer hitting him but instead colliding with an invisible force. A second light push of concentration and the blades dispersed entirley.

Derrin had concentrated on hardening his magical aura and widened it to keep the blades away from his body until they ran out of steam. Being a mage and haveing worked with magic for most of his life Derrin's aura was quite strong, unlike a knight who had never touched a spell book...., which was probably why they took magical hits so badly, this was also why most mages took a punch like a whiny school-girl.

"Hummph, I stopped playing with those dinky spells a while ago." He muttered to himself as a lightning bolt came down and smote the fool who apparently had just started magic training, either that or Derrin was just that good.

"Hmmm?" He murmured as the sniper from before came stepping by him, "I knew you'd see it my way." He kidded turning to see what she was dodging from, with a startled cry the mage saw a sword flying to his face and quickly crouched as the weapon passed over him slicing a few hairs off in the process. No time to prepare the lightning canon (as he had named it), regular thunder would have to do. He exhaled just as the bolt came down but rather then a direct hit which would have killed the swordmaster, instead the bolt curved and hit behind the swordmaster causing him to stumble towards Derrin and have a nicely charred backside.

Derrins eye twitched in anger as the swordmaster threw a punch his way, the punch connected with Derrins face and he was knocked backwards with a bloody nose but managed to keep on his feet, "Grrrrr, Die!" He yelled as the mage raised his hand again, this time adding more to the incantation then there had been with the earlier thunders, this time a huge bolt of lightning crashed down towards the swordmaster decimating the man and leaving a nice sized hole where he had been.

Nobody, nobody hit Derrin and then got to keep all their limbs. "Grrrr." He growled as he called down another thunder into the hole for good measure, before reaching up to wipe the blood off of his face.

Almost as soon as the battle had ended, they were fighting again.

The new opponents wore not the armor of these Estarcian men, but of a different country. Esmerelda, being entirely new to this land, had no idea what country it was, but they were fierce fighters. They seemed to lack the grace of the Estarcians--who, by her opinion, favored flair over function--but the sheer energy of their attack was... formidable.

The warmth of the healing wind earlier had certainly worked in their favor. Iason. Iason or another healer in Antonio's company, Esmerelda mused as she lifted another arrow to her bowstring. She released the arrow and did not watch to see if it would hit her target; the seasoned Sniper was already pulling the bowstring back, taut and humming slightly, to aim once more. Neil still hadn't returned. Was he all right? He hadn't already been killed by the enemy, had he? Her stomach turned as she fired, reaching again for an arrow. She was running low. This was bad. She needed to find Neil, he often carried her extra arrows for her, what with him having the extra room astride Katya.

They were starting to get overwhelmed, it seemed to her, but she couldn't be sure. There was only so much that a group of archers with a small collection of myrmidons and mercenaries could do against such a wide variety of talents. Was Antonio still busy rounding up the surrendered soldiers? Where was the back-up? She--

Paused, lowering her bow just slightly. Neil's battle cry echoed in her ears as horse hooves sounded, and now mares, stallions, all of their riders with swords drawn and bows ready, stampeded into the fray. Esmerelda tossed a glance up and over her shoulder, and there was Neil, Killing Edge in his left hand, Katya's reins in her right.

"Miss me?" he questioned, grinning breathlessly. Esmerelda couldn't help but chuckle back, but her expression was serious as she faced the fighting again. She raised her bow again, pulling the arrow back and let it fly, right into the belly of an opponent's pegasus.

"Yes. Now where are my extra arrows?"

Edward jumped over an incoming soldier and stabbed him in the back of his neck. Another one rushed him and he dodged then the Myrimidon smashed the hilt of his sword into the skull of the soldier. The soldier's helmet rang and Edward's arm became numb. "s**t." He swung his sword down and finished him off.

Edward felt something hit his chest, pain surged up from his right side. He saw an arrow sticking out of his chest and he groaned. "Ugh..." He carefully pulled it out of himself and used a vulnerary. He looked up to see another soldier charging him with a lance. Edward rolled out of the way and stabbed him in between the arm and the side. Then pulled out his sword and slashed.

The Myrmidon backed up and coughed. "This is definitely going to be long." He dodged out of the way of another soldier and prepared to fight back.

I've been lost in loneliness, of these nights deeper than darkness

I want someone to notice now...
Because I want to get out of here

-Cyric-
Get the job done and do it now. That was what Cyric was aiming for right this very minute. Where was the enemy coming from? What of the reinforcements? How were their supplies...? Surely even they cannot hold that many supplies...though granted this town. First thing's first, orders for his own men.

"Artemis" Cyric called, gesturing for the bishop to step forward, or at least out of the current chaos that was going around. "Assist Alihi's group over there, the enemy's main focus seems to be on what they would assume be all we have" which was currently true..and there wasn't a single healer around besides his own. Lets just hope he had enough energy should they even get injured that badily.

Next he shifted toward Tanya "Follow Alihi, she'll be sure to need someone who is capable of using Anima magic as well as a staff. Do what you can to assist her" The sage nodded, taking in her surroundings before following the tactician. Artemis did the same, splitting from his captain toward Elhaym, Derrin, Levail and Edward.

Last but not least was himself. He had all urge to want to ride and find their commanding officer..or at least the one in charge of taking over this place. He as well, wanted to find Horatio, to see if he was still alive. Cyric had his doubts but he always said, don't believe it until you see it.

...

What's this? Cavaliers? So they were still packing with power were they? Well, lets see if we can stop them in our tracks. Brave bow was raised, Cyric drew an arrow and pulled it toward the nock of the bow. No time to aim, he simply pulled the string back and released it, then drew another, repeat. The first arrow sank in between the the armor, hitting the joint on his shoulder while the second one pierced the eye line crack.

Horatio
▫ ▪Pride of the Armory▪ ▫

User ImageTime was something that one lost track of when they blacked out and didn't realize that the world around them was still turning, still running. Horatio wasn't sure exactly how much time had passed, but he knew it was a while before he was defeated outside, hearing Antonio's cold words of 'sparing' him just before all his world faded from his senses. He awoke in heavy shackles, and in the back of one of his own dungeons. The one that was said to be the pride of the Estarcian forge was reduced to just another prisoner, it was absolutely pathetic!

Antonio was right when he said those words to him. Horatio was going to live with the shame that he had from this defeat for the rest of his days. Maybe the rest of his days wouldn't be long, because terrible things happened in the prisons. The other prisoners weren't going to be 'civil' like he was, they would continue being murderers and cutthroats after being thrown in with prisoners of war who's only crime was standing up to defend what was theirs. He had failed every last one of his faithful men whom were both in and out of this dungeon. Horatio couldn't be more ashamed of himself.

Not soon after the leader of Altiplos awoke though, did he hear something outside. They were footfalls, he knew the sound from anywhere, living with soldiers all his life. They didn't sound like the steps of the enemy, who's feet had a different rhythm when it came to marching. The steps were kind of off, but their direction was straight and true. "I... don't believe it! Reinforcements?"

He made sure to hide his face away from the Archanean soldiers that were watching over him, cracking a small smile. The one phrase that summarized the defeated leader's feelings right now was "better late than never." There was still a small hope for his city. All he had to do was keep his head high, as he had done the time his father fell to illness when he was still young, and Horatio was sworn in as the Great Blacksmith fairly early. He had to have faith, for another wave was on the way to bring a turnaround for his dearest citizens.

say they are the arms of guardians. What will you
decide?
Will you be my friend for foe?

Its not my fault you’re such a moron

Derrin,
Major Grouch

Just leave me alone

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Derrin was forty kinds of pissed off, he hated Calvary. Frying a rider’s horse Derrin watched as the man on top was thrown from the saddle only to face plant painfully into the ground, skidding to a halt in front of the grouchy mage. As a discouragement of getting back up Derrin planted a boot between the man’s shoulder blades, looks like the mage had captured a prisoner.

Prisoner? Something occurred to him then as he signaled a soldier to come and tie the rider up. "Hey, Tactician! Over here," He called out as the mage made his way towards Alihi clearing a path for that sniper to follow if she felt like it.

Reaching the woman who seemed to be doing nothing but staring down the street at a brown haired man, the mage clapped a gloved hand (With small singe marks by the finger tips) on her shoulder.

"Your name is Alihi right?" He said coldly, "One of the Estarcian's most likely has a map of this town I would assume? I'd like to take the map and a few troops to see if we can find the jail, the enemy most likely has a few captives and releasing them could bolster our own forces, even if they aren’t there, releasing a few criminals would cause a bit of chaos for the enemy as well." Derrin spoke quickly but articulated his plan well; he wouldn't need that many troops either. Because the enemy had pulled what looked like a fair bit of their forces to head them off a small group of people could slip away unnoticed, not only that but why waste soldiers guarding captured prisoners while a battle was raging? Any guard that was stationed was like to be minimal. The only hitch was if the jail was located in or around City Hall, well maybe that was a good thing. Sneak in, get captives out and then hit them from both sides. Sneaking would be tough but not impossible, with all the noise the main group was making the enemy wouldn’t be expecting someone to go around behind them. Besides cities like these usually had some alternative way of getting in to places like City Hall or the Jails that an occupying force wouldn’t know about, all they’d have to do is find it. So someone who knew the city or had a detailed map would be invaluable.

Still the final decision rested on Alihi, if she said no...... Derrin would take his frustration out on the enemy. If she said yes, then Derrin would take his frustration out on a few prison guards.

It was win/win..... For him at least.

"Woah!" Edward dodged another soldier trying to skewr him. "Damn it! There's so many!" Edward backed up and bumped into a girl. He wheeled around to see Alihi staring at a brown haired person on the ground. "Are you going to leave him here? Move him!" Edward dodged another soldier and brought him down.

Edward heard hoof beats and turned around quickly. "Cavalry?" the Myrmidon put his steel sword away and took out his wind edge. He spun it around and released a piercing blade of wind that knocked off a soldier from his horse.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. After yelling out, Abel perked up suddenly, after hearing his name being called. The most surprising part was that he recognized the voice. But for it to be her.. that was impossible! Then again, so was a sudden attack on Altiplos... and Learanian soldiers showing up. Heck, her being here wouldn't really be all that strange, after all.

"Alihi?!" Abel turned about, trying to find her. Finally, he managed to see her; she was behind him, but was making her way toward him. In an attempt to meet her halfway, Abel ran out to her, as well. "Alihi...!" Together they ran to one another, being reunited for the first time, since Christmas.

...But then suddenly, some grouch showed up and started talking to Alihi. Maybe if it had been something important, it would understandable, but that plan was ridiculous! "W-what?! No! You have no idea how many soldiers attacked this place! I only saw the south end first hand, but I could hear and see spells coming from up north. These mages we see came from up there, because they weren't down here, before!" Abel paused briefly, looking back and forth to Alihi and this other guy. He was trying think of how to really relay how horrible the idea was. "And how many people do you think it would take to get passed the north gate and rush into the city? There's liable to be a whole 'nother army up there! We have to focus on what's in front of us." Abel looked back to Alihi, and took her hand. "Besides" he began, before obtaining a smile. "I have a better idea. This city has a special shelter that was made for the chance of severe weather; underground tunnels. The citizens managed to escape into them, when the battle first began." He squeezed Alihi's hand. "And I know how to get them out, so that they can flee to the capital."

I feel like I can face the day...
...and I can forgive.

♦ ◄ALIHI► ♦

Hearing her name spoken by that familiar voice was the last confirmation that Alihi needed. Ignoring Edward's comment, though she did want to snap at him for speaking to the tactician in such a way, she made her way over towards Abel. She smiled softly, about to ask him how he was doing, when one of the Learanians, a mage she didn't yet recognize, approached her.

"Your name is Alihi, right?"

The level of respect they have for me is astounding. . . . She thought with irritation, listening to Derrin's plan. He did have a point; the jails would certainly not be empty. But to release convicts she knew nothing about? That could cause more problems than needed. Plus, we don't know much about the enemy location . . . or where anything in the town is, except by map. The tactician shook her head slowly. With so many unknowns, it seemed like a bad idea to send out people on what could potentially be a suicide mission. "I--"

"Wh-what?! No! You have no idea how many soldiers attacked this place!"

Alihi stopped herself, turning towards Abel. She remained quiet, listening to every word that he said. Whatever he had to say, it would be very important to her, the tactician; he was apparently here when the attack started. If any of them knew what was going on, it would be him.

She nodded slowly, squeezing his hand gently in return. "Sounds like a good idea, Abel." She turned to Derrin for a moment, finally taking the time to respond to his suggestion. "I'm not saying that your plan is bad or anything. . . . It's tactically sound, to free whatever prisoners that there are to try and gain some advantage. Our understanding of the other army is limited, though, and I don't want to take a huge risk like that. Sorry."

With that being said, her focus went back to Abel. "... There is one thing about what you said that makes me nervous, though. . . . You see, this isn't the only force attacking Estarcia right now. They're just a part of one huge group. And really, although I can make predictions and assumptions of where other chunks of this unknown force could be, I'm really not certain." A frown crossed over her face. "If we leave the citizens to make their way back to the capital on their own, then who could protect them in the case of an attack? There's no guarantee that they will not get killed on their journey to Archesis." Her grip on Abel's hand loosened slightly, but tightened again a second later.

She turned to the rest of her group, keeping the anxiety she was feeling out of her features and voice. Somehow, she'd have to make sure that the citizens of Altiplos reached Archesis safely, but she didn't know how yet. "Stand your ground! Do not let them pass, and do not die! We're going to make sure the citizens are safe and completely out of the battlefield." As she mentioned the "we", she gestured to Abel. Alihi offered no words of encouragement, like she did on other occasions; she just turned to the hero at her side and gave him a quick nod. She had enough faith in them to believe that they did not need any additional statements. ". . . Lead the way, Abel."

And I'm not ashamed to be...
...the person that I am today.

-Cyric-
Cyric couldn't help but overhear even though all these chaos. Prisoners..right..if the enemy were even that merciful the others might still even be here. If what this..Abel..said was true..then perhaps the citizens had already gone and evacuated the premises. A majority at least..should there be any left behind then they were probably hiding out in their basement shelter or something to that extent. Nobody would be stupid enough to stick around if they had escape hatches right?

He listened to that..red-head's words. Going north was indeed suicide. Considering where their enemy was currently coming from, the direction was somehow in that particular area. Not east, Not west, north.

"I would have to agree with Alihi and..Abel..? Was it? That traveling north could put us and Learania in danger. Have you not noticed that is the direction they come from?" If he failed to even notice that, then perhaps this man was not thinking at all. Killing spree fest to be more exact.

...

"Tanya" the captain called "If you find Horatio with Alihi and them...bring him back alive...or at least..tell him all is not lost." The girl hesitated for a moment, was the silver knight really putting that much trust in her? After all..Tanya wasn't all that skilled at all. At the same time, she felt honored and understood the situation given. She accepted, stepping closer to the tactician. "Leave it to me"

Wow, that sounded like he was going to die here. It wasn't like that at all. But with the forces Alihi had with them to guard the front..they wouldn't even last a minute..considering there was a psychotic thunder mage...and..a myrmidon...the only one that actually seemed to be able to hold her ground (minus the temper) was the orange-haired sniper. They weren't doing too bad..however, given the situation. More forces were need to stay here. He didn't have to be with Alihi the entire time anyways..that's what he had the sage for..Artemis and himself can provide back-up for those needed here.

User Image Stand our ground? But of course~, Did Alihi really not have that much faith in them? They wouldn't die, not now at least. Well, of course they would do their best. No way in hell were they going to drop their guards and die here now right? Right? Besides, Elly was just getting started on the fun. Play time wasn't over, not by a long shot.

Obviously they were still coming. Not stopping anytime soon, not unless they were to retreat here and now. But like the sniper thought..that wasn't going to happen and oh look! What was this? Poor little myrmidon thinks he can take a sniper such as herself? Because she's a woman? How fun~, a play thing.

The man obviously held the sword in such a flimsy way that he could possibly cut himself if he even had a chance to. Although, thanks to his footing, he managed to trip and grabbed the girl by her left arm.

Ehaym's golden eyes widened, and the slapped him hard across the face with the back of her left hand. "How..dare you!" she hissed, watching him suddenly crumple to the floor. Each time he moved back, Elly took a step forward.

"You monsters! Why would you help these monsters!"

Monster? her? Estarcia? Did the sniper care? Not really, but this man was so repulsive, Ooh. Be so fun to just toy with the little b***h now wouldn't it?

Elly smiled, watching him slowly attempt to crawl away until he hit the back of a building wall. "You.....are so...repulsive! heart " suddenly her foot came in contact with the myrmidon's gut, twice. That's gotta hurt, especially when that kick was so forceful it caused the man to spit out bits of blood.

Crud, he's unconcious. Pathetic really, by simple kicks? How weak, he shouldn't even be a part of these so called army. Oh? Estarcia's captain was going to assist them? How lovely~

Just leave me alone

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well his plan was rejected, but what could you do? He wasn't the tactician, nor did he want to be besides the others had made good points it would be difficult to get the prisoners out as they would have to sneak by where the enemy was coming from but that would have worked in their favor soldiers running towards a battle were less likely to notice a group moving stealthily through the streets, still all it would take was one loud shout to ruin the plan. So with a glaring nod he accepted that, as for civilians... Derrin could care less, currently they were safe and trying to get them out of their nice little safe spot could prove more trouble then it was worth, Alihi was Learnian and they were not. Derrin doubted if they would even listen to her, let alone leave the tunnels. He didn't bother saying that though, he could tell that these people were the kind who spouted nonsense of going out of their way and risk many lives to save a few.

Just like with Jaren, his chances of convincing them otherwise were less than zero, so he marched back to the front lines after Cyric.

Grumbling about how annoying this battle was turning out he almost chuckled at the sinper's cruel treatment of some helpless myrmidon, really he must get her name later and re-took his place while keeping an eye on her, sure there were other archers he could look out for but this one entertained him.

He spied a solider with a lance jogging towards him and quickly ran through his incantation, the solider stopped all of a sudden as if he knew the coming end. Derrin smiled evilly, he was going to enjoy seeing the solider in bits and pieces.

The magic activated and a jet of water shot out from Derrin's hand splashing water on the soldier’s breast plate, both men looked at each other startled and confused.

Then the soldier grinned as he closed the distance, suddenly all thoughts of spells was driven from Derrin's mind! He couldn't remember anything! Was this because of his condition? "S-s**t!" He swore as he tried to step away from the lance speeding towards him.

Edward turned to see Derrin panicking and a soldier trying to skewer him with a good measure. The Myrmidon spun his Wind Edge and launched a blade of wind knocking him to the ground. Edward closed the distance between them and finished the soldier off by sinking his sword into the soldier's neck.

He pulled out his bloody sword and turned to Derrin. "Are you OK?"

Shock became clearly noticeable on Abel's face, when he heard Alihi say that the people attacking the city was just a part of a larger force. The thought of it just seemed inconceivable, and yet he had no choice but to believe it. It was the only thing that could really make sense, right now. Plus, if Alihi was saying it, then he could trust that it had to be true.

With knowledge of other possible forces, the plan of allowing the citizens to escape was dimmed a bit. Simply keeping this enemy busy so that the citizens could run would not be enough. They would have to decide whether they would try to retake the city, or give it up, to ensure the safety of its people. However, it seemed that Alihi had already made up her mind. Abel smiled, when she issued the order of what they would do. "Right..!"

In soon enough time, Abel had brought Alihi, and whoever followed, outside of the city and around to the western side. Not far from the city wall, a hill went down. On the side of the hill, a hidden entrance was sealed up. The group was quickly led down the hill, and Abel walked forward. "Here it is. Only Estarcians and those who have been shown the entrance know of it. It's hidden to the eyes of others." He began to feel around the ground of the hillside. "Come on, I know it's around here somewhere.... aha!" Abel stopped, after feeling the edge of an opening. He moved some rocks out of the way and cleared the area around the opening, making it more noticeable. He then took his sword and propped it into the hillside, pushing out a large, circular rock. From there, he pulled out the placeholder, revealing a wall of stacked boulders. "All we have to do is remove these boulders. The tunnel is beyond them." He paused then approached the boulder wall. "Hello? Anybody there?!" There was a moment of silence, as the group waited for somebody inside to make a sound. No response came. "Don't worry, we're here to help! We're going to get you out of here and make sure you get to the capital! Who else knows of this tunnel, but a friend?"

There was once again silence. Through a hole in the boulder wall, an eye looked at the group, but could not be seen. "... You are not part of the enemy, but..." The eye glanced over at Tanya. "Ah... Commander Cyric has come to save us?! Then it is okay to flee! Yes, yes, we are all here. All have traveled the tunnels to this location. Please, help us get out!"

"Right! We'll get you all out right away!" Abel turned back to Alihi and the others. "Come on, I'll need help!"

He heard the incantation given by a man, but suddenly it seemed to have backfired on the man in a way he never thought possible, and this created interest in Canas. He did not wait. He rushed in to help the Learnia troops whipping out his spellbook and began to chant his own incantation from a distance behind the main force. "ECLIPSE," He cried out as the spell was cast on a Wynvern lord wearing enemy armor.User Image
