You can just buy some fabric, any color you want the patch to be, cut it into the right size, and do the art for it yourself. That or find a friend thats really good at art and have them do it for you.

its not that i cant make my own patches, ive actually made 3 t shirts, but the quality isnt all that great. then again i just use stencils and craft paint.

i take drawing utencils and dip them in bleach like an old inkwell pen and then draw directly on the clothing with the bleach. it made some really nice effects.

i think its probably the best bet (other than actually getting silk screening equipt. (which i also have)) when making an image on fabric and you want white lettering... then again its not really white... on red it turns orange-pink.

even with silk screening equiptment at my disposal i prefer bleach, it just has a special esthetic.

you dont need a machine to silk screen... all you need is a sheet of sheer silk, thin enough so you can see through it kinda. you stretch it over small rectangular frame, or large... if you have that much silk depending on what you want to make.

you can get fluids that allow you to draw directly on the silk called filler and drawing fluid. fluid is for positive marks where the ink will go through, filler is for what you want blocked so no ink goes through.

you can make stencils out of sticker paper, or even wax paper and tape. tape the stencils on the stretched silk and print from that.

or you can get all professionall and s**t and buy photo emultion and set up a dark room for exposing the emultion to make photo prints.

things you will need for silk screening:

stretched silk
news paper to test prints and to keep the ink from bleeding throught he shirt.
a squeegie for running ink over the silk.
for filler and drawing fluids you need paint brushes, and a tray to coat your screen with filler after you drew with fluid.
packaging tape to tape off around your stencils and s**t.
for emultion you need a dark room, a bright light and time to let the emultion expose you also need a tray to coat the silk evenly with emultion, velum paper or another thin or translucient paper so light can expose the emultion once you tape it on. and a decent printer so you can print off the photo images onto the velum paper.
water based printing ink, doesnt necessarilly have to be fabric ink
an ink knife... kinda looks like a puddy knife only plastic so it wont tear the silk
and last of all some ******** power in your arms because printing takes some ******** effort.

and clean up.... for emultion all you need is mr. clean and a hose.... if you dont have high water pressure you will be cleaning your silk for hours.

edit: Cotton ussually works best.. but i think silk screen ink can print on anything... how long it stays on the fabric is really the issue.

generally you have to iron the image afterward also so will it burn... i dunno... be careful.
