Well if Yossarian had been hoping to still fall asleep, he was so out of luck, since the kitten, in a sort of glee, had made her way up the stairs after dumping her groceries in the kitchen, all in the name of harassing her other half.

Who had apparently trying to sleep when she'd come in. Which of course just earned just as big of a smile from the kitten, who walked over and pressed her hands against his shoulders to lean over him and brush her nose against his cheek with a quiet purr to accompany.

"You can only sleep for another thirty minutes before it's time to eat.." she whispered, before gently nipping at his ear (she was enjoying getting under his skin) and..
...

Then she beat her hasty retreat back into the kitchen (D< MAKE ME A SAMMICH!) to make sure that her groceries hadn't run away without her.

"Dad! What do you think sounds like a good idea for dinner?"

And he could practically feel the waves of 'OGODSHE'SDOINGSOMETHINGAWKWARD' that were going to come from the other room... but either way, it was time for him to ..
..

"Would you like some tea?" he asked, searching through his bag for the tin of the leaves he'd picked up in Pooroskia. Lord only knew he neeeeeded the calming effects of tea right then. NEEEDED.

Because otherwise his nerves were going to make him go a little psycho.

And whether or not Yossarian had been planning just that (though why would he be?) would probably never get a clear answer as the dark male, following that whisper and odd n** she'd felt so bizarrely inclined to make, just lamely scraped himself off the mattress, pushing up on all fours (mm, hands and knees) before half-falling back to plant his rear on the corner of the bed. There, now he was sort of upr--

Fjkafdadfa!!! Dammit, she'd run out again before he could even get out a word (groans didn't count) at her!

... What the hell was she trying to do, now?

Well, he sure had his sweet time to contemplate and grumble (ALONE) on the matter while Aster ran back to Daddykins, who had just hopped up the stairs to go and deposit his bags in 'their' room, met her at the stairs and immediately dumped said bags in the hall instead to trail her back down, skipping all the way.

"Oooh, I'm not quite certain, really! Perhaps we should heed our instincts... mmm, does anything strike your immediate fancy for the making, my dear?"

Or, translated: I DUNNO, WHAT D'YOU FEEL LIKE?

"Mm?..." Shae could feel a lot of things (awkward included) right then, but thankfully she had a much more pleasant presence to distract her from all the raucous nonsense instead while her brain caught up to speed, blearily rubbing a bit of sleep from her eye (which disturbed Del just enough to send it rocketing off at Kanda's face for the usual "HALLO 8D!"). "That sounds... lovely, Sir, thank you..."

Really, if they hadn't been stuck up in such a horribly stressful place with a dreadful DO NOT WANT marriage hanging over their heads, it would've been almost enjoyable.

"I could brew it or-- ... ah... would company be preferred, or not?..." She was attemptively helpful as always, though. It was never a bad thing.

Oh yes, there were man-mates to harass with little flirts and being playful. Since y'know... if she tried to be flirty and stuff later Langston would get the wrong idea. The completely wrong idea. Not somewhere they needed to go right then.

Or ever.

But either way, it was time for the BEST FRIENDS FOREVVVEEERRRZ to go off and bond in the kitchen while Langston wasn't allowed to touch ANYTHINGS. ANYYYYTTTHIIINNNGGGSSSS.

Meanwhile Asteria was touching evvverything, poking through the cabinets and investigating what would possibly look good with what she had to work with (No more soup or Pasta meals... SHE WAS CAPABLE OF MORE) Though...
...

"Hmm, I have some carrots and onions, and if Mr. Rutherford has some potatoes and roast I think we'll do something that can be as spiced as the eater likes.."

Awww, compensation for Shae~

"Company is fine." Kanda stated, his face still as blank as ever despite having just had a golem crash into it.

Ohhhh Yuukins. So immune to the one thing that had started everybody else's fate. Evvvverybody else's. Mwa ha ha. It was all HIS fault technically. ALL YUUKIN'S FAULT THAT YOYO MET HIS SOULMATE. Bedmate. Crazy chicka with butterfur. Whatever.

"Do you wish to join me or will you be staying up here?"

Well said man-mates were a little slow catching on to her real 'intent' behind the strange flirtations, so it came off as little more than irksome and confusing in poor Yossarian's head, still grumbling little half-coherent nothings to himself as his brain (attemptively) caught up to speed with the whole 'awake' thing. Or more so... aware. he guessed.

He wasn't quite sure.

Maybe it was just best to keep playing the lone wolf and glower at nothing in particular while she fiddled around downstairs cooking with Daddy. God only knew what horrors that man would be churning up in the kitchen...

"Oooh, that sounds absolutely exquisite!" Speaking of Daddy, Langston seemed quite tickled by this new suggestion, trailing along in Aster's shadow and into the room of his undoing, peeking over her shoulder through all the rifling through this and that cabinet and cupboard and somesuch. "I'm certain the good fellow could spare us a bit of edible hospitality, after all..."

Mmm, now the only real problem (aside from garnering their needed ingredients) was keeping HIM from burning the place down somehow, huh?

"O-oh, I'm coming, Sir..." It seemed as if Sir's question had managed to shake off whatever remaining torpor had left Shae dragging her feet as the girl plucked Del right out of its whirling little cartwheels, shoved the golem on her shoulder, gave a last stifled yawn and got herself upright-- perhaps a bit stiff, but otherwise right back to 'normal' for trailing along.

Best to savor these last peaceful times together before everything went down later, huh?

Hell, for all she knew, she could get pitched out a window or thrown off the ship before it was all over wi-- ... okay, actually, that wasn't even good to think about.

Best just not to.

Meanwhile kittens were more than happy to firmly give Father-figures instructions: Very detailed ones. Which with some produce and a wave of the hand came down to: "Would you wash those for me? No soap, just scrub them down." she asked, humming and going about hunting down a sack of potatoes and going further as to get some of the paper-wrapped meats from the icebox to investigate their contents, until she was contented with what she'd found.

Then it was just the retrieval of a baking pan and the careful use of some spices before that was gone and put into it's 'final fate'.

To be baked to delicious goodness.

And to wait for dad to catch up with her.

Of course Kanda was nice enough to wait until his companion had caught up with him before he started his trip downstairs, not even having hit the steps before the ways of his rival's woman romping about the kitchen and cooking had caught his ears.

"It seems dinner is in order.." he commented, noting that their benefactor wasn't in the Inn at the current moment before he made his way into the kitchen, eyeing the odd cooking pair before going about finding a kettle for tea-purposes.

..
...

It was almost mundane, really.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 31, 2009 10:57 pm

Staring, staring, staring at the wall...

Okay, so maybe the glowering only worked for so long now that he was up and, more importantly, tuned in to the sounds of so many familiar bodies shuffling about downstairs, what with their shuffling exploits of pan-retrieval and tea making and general kitchen-centric tomfoolery-- and so, with a sigh and a last feeble grumble, off he staggered down the stairs, not to socialize in the general 'group' but...

... Well, at least he'd sit there in the feeble excuse for a 'public area' downstairs where he was visible and there was more to distract himself with.

As for Langston, rather surprisingly, it seemed Aster's exceptionally acute instructions had managed to keep him (more or less) in line, cheerfully and obediently dragging the potatoes he'd been handed over to the sink for a good thorough scrubbing. No soap, of course, as he could pay attention to instructions well enough...

Though by some GOD AWFUL fluke he did manage to let one spud get away from him, which quite literally flew through the air and very nearly clocked poor Shae who, by some miraculous fluke of decent reflex (or self preservation) managed to dodge in time--

... Just to have it take out the Golem on her shoulder instead, who was promptly walloped right off its perch and went spiraling away just in time to avoid a crash-and-burn on the floor.

"Oh, goodness, do forgive me!" the responsible party chuckled, just earning a quiet mumble of 'oh, it's alright' from the owner of the 'victim' in turn.

Though she did scoot a bit closer to Sir in the slim hope that it would keep her well away from any MORE stray projectiles in the meantime.

"Mister Vandrooghenbroeck is..." She made sure to keep her voice hushed, though, "certainly interesting in the kitchen..."

And Asteria had looked up in time to watch the potato go sailing off into the distance, laughing awkwardly and moving away from her little carrot-slicing escapade to retrieve the stray potato and of course go to flirt at her arriving hubbikins again.

Complete with a nose across the neck before she fled the scene to toss the potato (it had squished just a little bit), and finish up her preperation of the vegetables (Oddly, the only thing that didn't get cut up were the potatoes, which she left six of in the pan) before humming and shoving it into the oven.

"Hmmhmm. You're such a good helper, Dad~" Asteria chimed, moving away from the stove so Kanda could go and bum his tea there.

Kanda frowned at the little flirty actions of the other woman while he filled the kettle with water, clicking the stove on lamely before sitting the water on it to boil.

Or at least pretend to more or less.

Which of course prompted him to go and sit in the more 'public area' to wait for the kettle to summon him back, setting the tin of leaves on the countertop while they went off to wait. Siiigh.

"Would you like to go out tomorrow or will you be preferring to stay inside for tomorrow as well?"
PostPosted: Sun Feb 01, 2009 8:21 pm

... Fadjfklajfag OKAY, THIS HALF-HEARTED TEASING FLIRTY BUSINESS WAS STARTING TO DRIVE HIM UP THE DAMNED WALL.

Poor Yossarian really hadn't come down there just to endure more of the very same treatment that had left him disgruntled in the first place-- but there he was, just sitting there and remaining more or less stiff-postured as Aster flung herself right at him, complete with nose rubbing, before flitting right back off again to go continue cooking.

... Yeeeah, he wasn't even going to respond. If he tried, it'd only come out as confused grumbling.

Which (no doubt) of course amused his father to no end, having finished the last of the potato scrubbing (sans that one flying casualty) just in time for his head chef and daughter to trot back in to get more prepping out of the way. Vegetable chopping? Why, he could help with that!...

Though she hadn't asked (with good reason), so he just decided against being a pest and idled there by the sink to watch her work, smiling brightly aaall the way.

"Why thank you, my dear!" God, that smile could've practically torn off his face with how wide it was. "Mmm, I do enjoy a bit of tinkering in the kitchen here and there-- quite the unique thrill for me, really. Such a shame Moacyr insists on handling the cooking of the home all by her lonesome..."

And of course Shae, for lack of having much better to do, stuck faithfully at Sir's side when he made his exit to wait for the water as it heated, perching right in her 'usual' spot on one side of the couch where he'd sat down (despite Yossarian's odd glance at the two from his chair), and when it came time for the kettle to whine and be taken off the boil...

Well, of course she tagged along there too in case there was something she could possibly help with, seeing as she'd offered and all and her only real 'use' at the moment was companionship.

"I'm..." There was a moment of trailing off as she seemed to think about it, her oh-so-weak smile getting even more frail from all the logistics that came to mind. "I'm not sure, actually... I guess it would all depend on how peaceful tomorrow is." Then an even longer beat of silence, sighing to herself. "Though staying out of sight would probably be the least trouble-inducing, I suppose..."

Nnn, as dull and unpleasant as it was to stay inside and in hiding all the time, it was still the smartest thing to do, right?

At least, until the time for that 'talking' and scheming stuff came in.

Awwww, he was getting all frustrated! How cuuuuuute! Aster practically oozed delight at how frustrated poor Yossarian was getting with her flirting. Not because he was frustrated and she was a b***h, but because it almost seemed he was disappointed.

"Dad, Mom won't let you tinker in the kitchen because you get distracted by her when she's in there to help you, and if she wasn't you try to eyeball things - Oatmeal for example - instead of relying on something that tells you how to do it without killing something." she chastised gently, as she was sure he already knew it too well, before..
...

Yep, back to harass her other half.

She snuck up (probably poorly) right behind him to lean over his shoulder and give him a kiss on the cheek.

THERE. Happy now?

Well, he'd be just as harassed if he went outside in the daytime, and at night it would just be cold for a while before they got out of Nothern airs.
...
.....

Which left them to do what? Stay inside and talk? Read? Have tea? It was a whole lot of nothing, really. And unlike Shae, he couldn't just don a disguise and become th-

....
.....

Okay, sadly he could make himself look like a Woman, what with his mother's own appearance being very much similar to his own, but he wasn't exactly enthusiastic about such an idea. "Well then, that will leave us to have to creatively waste the time of the day." he noted.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 03, 2009 1:05 am

... Oh, hardly!

But at least the irksome woman had actually made a half-hearted (or perhaps just devilishly schemed) commitment to her flirtations this time and given him a chaste peck on the cheek-- which juuust managed to stifle his hissing and force him into a glowering state of quasi-frustrated-semi-resignation... of sorts.

He wasn't about to do more than just sit there and tolerate it, however, ears flicking back a little at the sound of his father's whimpery cooing in the kitchen (something over contemplation of Aster's chiding, apparently) before he just gave her this look right in the eye.

"... And just what are your intentions with all of this foot-dragging tomfoolery?"

Frustrated and confused hubby was frustrated and confused.

'Creatively waste time', was it? Huh, well... that was a pretty accurate label for it, Shae figured, giving he initial answer with just a weak nod and a shrug. They'd just have to pass the active parts of the day with-- yep-- talking, reading, tea drinking, maybe some Cat's Cradle or other simple games, and lots and lots of nothingness.

"Indeed." Nnn, c'mon, tea, brew faster! Not that willing it like that would speed it up anything (or watching it sit there, for that matter). "But a-at least it's more pleasant than--"

She actually had to pause there for a moment; what had been about to grace her lips? 'Than getting caught by the general?' 'Than being hounded by paparazzi?' 'Than last time WHEN I WAS DYING?'

"... Suffering any needless antagonism out there." Yes, good recovery! And it was true, too; after all, god only knew they didn't need any MORE suffering than was already inevitable.

And it seemed that made him just as frustrated as he'd been before. Which of course tickled her funny bone just a touch.

"I don't have to intend anything by it." she whispered back, nuzzling her nose against his cheekbone and eventually just resting her face there as well, happy as could be. "Besides, I'm sure you'll live through a little teasing." she purred, the prrprr barely loud enough to cause any vibration to his cheek.

"Unless you're feeling abused?"

Well, while the other pair was off being couple-y and the woman was getting under the swordsman's skin, he'd continue pondering whatever it was they were going to do the next day.

"Unless going out there becomes necessary in some shape or form." Kanda replied grimly, knowing very well that now that he'd suggested the possibility of having to go out there, something in the world was going to go terribly wrong and make it so he would have to.

....
.....

Please no.

"But for now we'll say within the boundaries of safety."

And then the kettle started it's whistling.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 03, 2009 10:54 pm

Okay, now that? That was about the most frustrating and ridiculous copout answer he'd ever heard! Really, just what kind of person did something with no intention behind it? That was just absurd-- which meant she was obviously lying about it in order to just tease him more and kljfaljdsfaljfj URGH WHY DID SHE INSIST ON FINDING THIS SO TERRIBLY AMUSING?

She did seem to be 'settling down' somewhat, though, of which he was rather thankful for, handling that nose-then-FACE-against-his-cheek treatment with the same impassive grimace as he'd been handling practically every other harassment thusfar.

"I..." Wait, what was he about to say again? That abnormally subtle vibrating had totally turned his brain to mush, hadn't it? "You were simply sending contradictory messages of intention, that was all."

Which was totally code for YOU'VE BEEN CONFUSING ME, but he wasn't about to say that out loud.

Though... it wouldn't hurt to return all of her half-hearted mush with a discrete arm around the waist, right? Right. There.

Oooh, those weren't very pleasant implications and Shae knew it, too, fighting back a wince that she'd probably wind up blaming on a brief 'spook' from the kettle as it started shrieking to be taken off the burner. Of course she already knew in one sense that such a thing was possible... but she still didn't like having such possibilities validated, either.

Really, it was something she should've been used to by now-- the whole 'things going wrong' scenario. It seemed to happen everywhere regardless of how hard they tried preventing it.

"Right..." Boundaries of safety. Good words-- and she repeated them to herself as she dug out a tea towel for covering their glasses with while they steeped, too.

Maybe she was just over thinking things though? After all, worse case scenario, it was only a wedding (HA), right? It wasn't as if she'd wind up thrown off the side of the city or facing another assailant at gun point... right? RIGHT?!

Awww, snuggletime?

Not like she didn't have a few minutes while food cooked in the other room (along with Dad gushing at his 'adorable children' and imagining grandbabies), but at least being a good enough kitten to not fling herself into his lap and purr up a lynching storm.

"I'm not the only one who sends contradictory messages." she purred into his ear, leaning into his side just a touch due to the arm around the waist, even earing Yossarian a 'less chaste' kiss on the corner of his lips for his efforts of affections.

How ironically sweet that they got to be all cuddley with few worries about the flying city while Kanda and Shae were given the right to sit inside unless they wanted to have something horrible happen.

'Joy'.

In the most sarcastic way he could manage it too.

Kanda had retrieved the kettle almost seconds before it began to whistle (just barely), setting it to one side and then taking the time while it cooled down past 'Fecking hot' to divvy out a reasonable portion of the leaves (which wasn't a lot, actually.. a little tea went a long way) between the two cups before filling them with the steaming water.

....
.......
...

Now to wait.
PostPosted: Wed Feb 04, 2009 6:33 pm

... Okay, either the woman needed eyeglasses or she was missing his lips on purpose with all of that funny kissing business, and it was a small miracle Yossarian had the fortitude not to let his face get all hilariously scrunched up in confusion again from this newest assault.

"Well, that's simply misinterpretation," was his flat response, neither scolding nor affectionate in tone... though he was still participating in that whole cuddly mushfest to some extent (which was saying something for the public circumstances and FATHER PRESENT), so he probably didn't mean anything by it.

"My messages are entirely clear..." At least, he'd thought so.

... Weren't they?

"Aren't they?" Funny, too, the question had slipped out of his mouth without him really meaning it to, either, actually taking pause to check his brain and make sure he'd just (accidently) said that out loud. WHOOPSIE.

Oh, how his father had to be just delighted and giggling like a schoolgirl in the kitchen-- which he was, as Shae could attest to, plenty aware of their other company as she threw her little tea towel over Sir's handiwork to let it steep. Now... yes, it was just kind of a matter of standing there and... waiting by the counter.

They could've probably gone to go sit down again in the other room, but Mister Yossarian and Ma'am didn't need any disruption as far as she was concerned. That just would've made things unnecessarily awkward.

Right, then. Brew, brew, brew faster pleeeease... God it was so quiet she could even hear the ticking in her ears. It was almost enough to get her thoughts ticking again, too... Like what if the golden tiger tabby girl was actually sweet and friendly and charming or something? And what if Sir actually--

... Yeahno, BREW FASTER, TEA.

"Clear as mud." she answered, nudging her way out of his little arm around the waist... in order to facilitate cutting the circulation to his legs off sitting in his lap, more than happy to nuzzle her head into the crook of his neck.

Prrprrr.

"Sometimes what you say and what you do aren't the same as..."

....
.........

ODD TRAILING OFF THERE. Aren't the same as what?

Each other? Something else? SOMETHING CONFUSING AS HELL? Who knew.

That man gushed more estrogen than Asteria Georgelas did. Which was saying something considering the other woman could probably turn the sterile as fertile as an oasis.

....
......

African tribes would love that. Give or take some dead kittens with eaten uteruses here and there. But either way, Langston was tolerable enough as long as his efforts to go "BWEE" weren't aimed at him.

"..."

Yeah, um.. tea, waiting on tea. Especially since his would be sitting there for practically an eternity and they'd already discussed their plans for the next day (unless they did go out) so...
...

Huh, he really couldn't think of a way to stretch the conversation.
