This will be the last time. It this attempt fails, she will have to rest or risk knocking herself unconscious for a day. Elenca shakes her head, recalling those three days a year ago when she had pushed her self too hard. It was damn humilating.
She prepared herself a final time, chanting the words again elegantly and fluently, the echoes of magic can be felt through the labyrinth's long dark halls.

The satisfying sound of the light dissapating was music to Elenca's ears. She gives a heavy sigh of relief and opens her eyes hesitantly.
Yes, the light was gone.
Her santuary remains untainted for now, and she may retire for the evening. Her eyes bleed to normal as she rises unsteadily to her feet. She is tired and exhausted from the strenous effort to rid herself of this....abberation. She walks slowly to her bedroom chamber, her gait a little less graceful than before.
She really needed to sleep.

Elenca steps lightly from the portal door, her short cropped hair blowing as wildly as it can around her face. She rolls her crimson eyes heavenward, sneering with distain at the reaction she received from that pubescent halfbreed.
And he calls himself the ruler of this place? That fool does not even realize what danger he has put his precious town in.......idiot.
She sighs with irritation and stalks over to a large stone bookcase. She picks up a ebony colored box, ornated with gold runes and rare jewels. She opens the clasp and takes out a sharply cut crystal, suspended by a delicate silver chain. The crystal is milky and dull, the brackets that adhere to the surface are a dirty bronze hue and look slightly rusted.
She then walks over to a large basin filled with crystal clear water, the dark fountain sitting in the far corner of the chamber-- almost like an after thought. She did not use the scrying stone very often, but when pursuing a bothersome pest....sometimes extra help was needed. Elenca murmurs a few words over the basin, the water rippling gently as she swirled the tip of the stone just above the surface. The words were eerie and snake like, the language unknown to the common ear. Suddenly the crystal springs to life and color, reds and blues mingling like frenzied dancers confined within the tiny chamber. The scrying stone was beautiful now, the magic accenting every facet and shimmering surface to numbing brillance. Even the rust colored clasps were now spun gold, offsetting the glittering reflections of the lengthy chain.
Elenca peers down into the basin waters...the facade of the liquid begining to churn into something legible.
"Now...where are you?" She states softly, peering intently into the murky light.
Roll edit: The murkiness clears hesitantly, the waters rippling outward to reveal the location of the halfbreeds woman and the....ancient.
Elenca pauses, her hands grasping the brim of the fountain with apprehension. To be able to speak to such a creature, converse as equals...would be a life changing event. What knowledge he possesed would be extraordinary.
Too bad she needed to kill him.
Rising to her full height, Elenca gives a rueful grunt, preparing to open the portal to the revealed location.....

He steps through her portal and lets the room around him transition into the dark convolutions of Elenca's Labyrinth. He slips inside like slipping on a warm, protective robe. He stands, wide, curious eyes inspecting every feature of the place that is readily apparent. He wants to discover it all, to memorize it, and tune himself to the spiritual energy of this plane. Like putting fingers to a pulse point, he will be able to get a feel for the magics of this place once he trains himself where and how to look.
He waits in comfortable silence for Elenca to emerge from her portal.

Elenca steps through her doorway lightly, her walk settling into a graceful pace. She darts a glance to the Ancient, circling him as she gestures to the main hall.
The archway is set in stone, though red roses climb the sides like scarlet ivy. From the hall can be seen many corridors, all appearing exactly alike to the untrained eye. Gray and black stone, weathered and chipped in various places, roses snaking across the stone overhead, hanging and shedding their petals to form a crimson blanket below. They seem to be in perpetual descent, falling softly to the floor with whispered silence.
"I have "guest rooms" through this doorway here, I will lead you down to them in a moment. This place can be confusing at times...even I wander aimlessly through the corridors some days. However, I have spent many years here in this place, I know every chip of stone, every crack, every cluster of roses....if you lose your way Ancient, just call for me."
Elenca strolls over to a small ornate cabnite, pulling open a drawer and withdrawing a small black and gold box. She opens it, and holds out a golden bell with decorative ribbons and silver chain. She dangles it a moment, letting it spin slowly through the cool air. Then she gives it a slight shake.
The sound is hardly like a normal bell, no brassy jangle or offensive clang. The sound is lyrical, flute-like, echoing through the room like a mythical siren. She smiles then and palms the bell in her hand, motioning with a curt nod of her head for him to accept her gift.
((you know, I just re-read my post above yours...and Elenca was determined to kill you! ....Lol, and look, now you' re her honored guest! Funny how things turn out.))

He accepts it by the ribbon, curling his fingers around the mouth of the bell to keep it still and silent. "And wheresoever you are, the sound will carry to you..."
Once inside the main hall, he takes slow steps, circling outward, each footfall giving a faint echo as he resonates with the place. He walks beneath the cascade of petals, letting a few alight in his hair. He seems comfortable here, much more comfortable than he was in the cabin, and certainly more than he was on the streets of the modern city. Just a few moments here and the lustre is starting to return to his skin, the paleness of injury melting away into a glow of unearthly glamour.
"You reside here alone? No one shares it with you?"
(( You know, I hadn't read that until right before posting... I did a double-take and an "eeeek!" ))

Elenca smiles demurely and follows closely behind. She studies the Ancient's pallor and notices that he seems to glow and almost shimmer in the half-light of the hall. She is pleased that he finds his new surroundings to his liking. "You may wander if you wish, but would you not rather rest? I have a suitable room to the left." She waves him down a hall, her lithe form silloetted by the rose tinted light. "Please follow me Nairu...I may call you by your given name, yes?"
((yes...hmmm, maybe someone ought to read the resident mage's little "musings" once in a while...))

"I would be pleased if you would call me Nairu, Elenca." He wants to explore, but he is exhausted, and the invitation to rest is too tempting to turn down. He nods and follows close to her as she leads him down the designated hall.
His presence has an effect on this place, as if a part of him soaks into everything he touches. He seems to be having a supernatural dialogue with the Labyrinth, a conversational exchange of energies. It is as innocent as a child catching a firefly, watching it light up, and letting it fly off into the night, its wings warmed from being in little hands.
"Your Labyrinth, Elenca... it reminds me of a tomb. Chiseled from stone to stand against the ravages of time, covered with flowers and ornamental tributes to the one who was laid to rest within it. Perhaps isolated and lonely by its very design, and yet fit to spend one's eternity within."
He continues walking, his eyes forward, as if they can see through the walls, and into transplanar space.

Some time has passed, and Elenca is feeling restless. She wonders what the natives are up too these days, if their pathetic little lives are as rosy as ever.
She sits lazily upon a large ornate chair, studded with jewels and plush cusions. One pale arm is drawing circles of ruby fire in the air, a obvious sign of boredom. It has been ages since she last talked to the ancient, and she was beginning to miss him--even the little red-headed ( and irritating) Morigan. Yet, she missed her sister the most--actually wished that her sibling would pay her a visit once in a while, it was lonely here sometimes....
Grumbling, Elenca swishes her dark hair away from her face. It was getting longer, but she refused to cut it. Maybe she would grow it out for once.
Sick of this idlness, she rises suddenly and opens a portal--ribbons of red light splashing against the walls of the labyrinth. She eases through the rippling space, her destination unknown.
