Wellllll.. see, the thing is, when you're new here, you have a one week trial to see if you stick around and such.
During that one week trial, depending on who is around at the time, if we're having good/bad moods that week, etc., you are subject to harsh punishment.
Basically, we're seeing if you can handle it. If you can't, then you leave. If you can.. then we'll slow the beatings (maybe) and you join our little group.
You still have to be active, of course, but not so much as the first week where we're seeing who's essentially worthy.

Well, under Trial, you'll see the "Warning" at the end. However, I don't really use guns like some of the others, so I find my own ways to toy around with the newcomers. 3nodding
And as for defending yourself.. I don't remember anything about that. ninja
Could always ask Reko or one of the older members.
I am one of the calmer members, but it's been a bad few days so.. You're my stress ball, so to speak! surprised
