Sirius frowned at the boy, absentmindedly noting that he had not done his homework, yet. He, then, sat down on the compartment's seat across from Remus and next to Marketa. He did not want to bother either of them, and decided to idly wait until James and Peter boarded the train.

What's taking them so long? he thought.

Marketa saw Remus's book and raised her eyebrows slightly. He didn't see her, so she leaned over to Sirius and whispered in his ear. "His book is upside down, do you tink he noticed?" Her voice wavered slightly as she tried not to laugh.

Remus, meanwhile, had fallen asleep, the only reason his book was still up being his elbow resting against the window ledge.

"Our pal Remus has a weakness for trains. They always make him crash. There's not a chance in the world that he notices his book is upside-down..." Sirius explained in a low voice. Though, why he was quiet was a mystery to him... Remus would not wake from this spot for the Queen, let alone a bit of noise. At least, not until they reached Hogwarts.

Severus Snape walked quietly accross the platform, all the while keeping an eye out for any of the Marauders. He had no intention of meeting up with any of the four Gryfindors this early in the term, though he knew he would be lucky to go to bed that night without encountering them. As the other students were busy saying goodbye to their parents, Severus's mother had died that summer and his father was at home probably half way through a bottle of some form of alchohal, Severus snuck onto the train and made his way to the last compartment. He always sat at the back so as not to be bothered by passing students. After stowing his trunk in the lugage rack he sat down and began reading from his 6th year potions book, a quill in one hand ready to make notes and little corections he may have missed while going through the first few times.

Marketa very gently took the book from Remus's hands, having practiced with her mother when the older woman fell asleep with her sewing. He didn't even stir. She observed him with a curiously tilted head. "Do you tink he's a bit ill?" she asked quietly. "He's very tin-I mean...tsin...ts-oh, I give up, I'm hopeless." She leaned back in her seat and blew her bangs out of her eyes irritable.

"Don't you worry about poor ole Remus. He always looks peaky like that, and he's always thin. More than likely, he'll be like that for the rest of his life. He carries himself quite well by himself, though, I might add."

Sirius smiled.

"And don't worry about your English, Marketa. I can understand you quite well... and, probably, you'll become a better speaker with a little bit of time."

Marketa sent Sirius a small smile of gratitude. "Tanks. Hopefully I'll speak a bit better once I'm around all you British folk for a while." She looked at Remus again. He was awfully pale, and despite what Sirius said, she knew she would worry. "Well, anyway, what have I missed in a year of absence?"

"OWLS, for one. I sure hope that you can make them up... You missed... not much really. Lots of peoples' folks died during the course of the year."

" 'Wish mine would," He added bitterly. "In any case, it's been a bit grim around the castle. We've been trying to keep everyone smiling..."

Marketa looked out the window. "I'm really hoping I can make dem up, I need to get OWLs if I want any NEWTs next year." Her eyes widened drastically when he mentioned his parents. "You shouldn't say dose tings, even if you do mean it. If someting were to happen to dem, wouldn't you feel guilty after saying dat?"

She shook her head, knowing everyone's home life was different. "Anyway, I'm sure you did a lovely job cheering everyone up. You've always made me smile when I watched you joke people." She turned back to him and smiled shyly, hoping he didn't think she had been stalking him or anything. She had always been envious of the Marauders' friendship, and had been to shy to talk to them before. Now she was sharing a compartment with two of them, though one was practiccally unconscious. In a weird way, she'd always wanted to be pranked by them as well. It would make her feel like she belonged somewhere besides home, where it smelled like fish.

Sirius looked down at his feet, though his expression was still one of disgust. "They're not my family," he said darkly. "I rue the day that I was born into a lot like them. Remus," he went on, gesturing at the sleeping boy. "And James and Peter, those are my family."

Sirius, then, lightened up considerably. "Thanks so much for that. It makes us marauders always feel good when somebody compliments our joking skills. It flatters me that you remember us, even with a year of absence."

"This has been a fun train ride, so far," he continued. "And the train hasn't even left the station, yet! I'm rather pleased that you came to sit with us."

Marketa positively beamed at Sirius. "You are quite unforgettable Sirius. Don't ever doubt dat." She reached over and her hand hovered uncertainly above his for a moment. "But anyway, I don't tink your girlfriend would like me sitting here, would she? Dis has been a wonderful visit, but perhaps I should go soon." She looked almost hopeful as she spoke about Sirius's girlfriend. She turned back to the window; her parents were still out there with Yvonne. She smiled weakly and waved at them.

Sirius's brow furrowed, wondering if that statement meant what he thought it did. He looked at Marketa, peering out the window at her little one, and smiled. He, then, stood up and peered out with her, giving a charming wave to her parents.

He, then, turned to her and said,
"Stay in here with us. We'll have a wonderful train ride. Remus doesn't mind, and I'm sure James and Peter won't. As for my nonexistant girlfriend, she's on the lenient side..." Sirius gave her a wink and gave one last wave to Yvonne and the 'rents before sitting down.

Marketa mouthed something to her mother with a shake of her head, and her family left the platform. She turned back to Sirius, her full attention on him now. "Sirius Black? Witout a girlfriend? I tink de Apocalypse is coming!" She pretended to wave her arms around in panic, but then smiled apologetically to show she was joking Sirius was such a stud, he was known to have never been without a girlfriend for more then a month or two at most. "I will stay as long as I am invited to. I'm just glad to have been invited at all, really."

Sirius rolled his eyes at the display. Everyone was under the impression that he was a player. "Nah," he explained. "I'm a free spirit. My girlfriends are usually few and far between, and they never last long. I've not even been kissed more than once or twice! In any case, I feel really uncomfortable when I'm tied down. Someday, I'll find someone that will make me feel free even though I'm with her."

He continued, "You'll be welcome here as long as you'll stay.

Marketa smiled apologetically. "Sorry, I was just being silly like you and your friends, I didn't mean anyting by it." She felt really bad. "I know how you feel too. I've only ever had one boyfriend, and by de looks of it, he's going to be de boy I marry too. I don't want to get married yet, but I tink my parents are planning someting for me. My mahder is making absolutely sure dat I'm home for Christmas, and my fahder has been working nearly triple overtime all summer.... I'm a little bit scared." She propped her elbow up on her knee and rested her chin on her hand, her little fingernail being chewed absently in the corner of her mouth. It was dreadful habit, really. She'd started it over a year ago.
