Pinumbra RockyRoadSmith anitasakura Mai seemed a little snobby towards Zuko. He was giving her a gift and what happen she was acting like she was too good for it. The ice cream thing also got me mad, he didn't drop it on purpose. The thing that ticked me off the most was when she made him get the food she wanted. (It remind me of my brother's lazy girlfriend.) Yeah, that was so saddening. If someone gave me a gift, I'd be flattered they were thinking of me. While it definetly wasn't one of the most romantic and caring of gestures (it seemd VERY lame to me), I would have at least accepted it, just not to hurt his feelings. If anything Mai lacks even more social skills than Azula, which is saying a lot.
She really didn't seem very fitting for him, in my opinion, biased as I may be, but I just don't see why this relationship is even working. (on an emotional level I mean) I mean, seriously? What kind of a person sees it as a bad childhood, to be taught manners? It would have worked if she had started developing a personality as soon as she got away from her parents, but she didn't. Plus she already disobeyed her parents before (even in the very first scene we see her)....plotholes. VERY large plotholes.
It makes me almost ship Tyko/Zulee.....but only almost. Agreed. Mai could have at least appreciated his effort at being a good boyfriend. Instead, she snubbed him.
Well, it wasn't just being taught proper manners. She sort of wasn't allowed to have an opinion, though I agree that she could've probably began to express herself a bit more by now.
xD Tyko makes an amusing crack!ship. I'd never ship it seriously, though.

Teh_Sheba See the thing that worried me about this episode, is that now Maiko has a little more development. Which was the one thing we always pointed out as being missing in the relationship.
It wasn't a lot, but the whole beach scene, was just huge character realization. This time, Zuko and Mai weren't CONSTANTLY making out. They did talk. Zuko voiced his frustration about how-let's face it- dull Mai is. Mai even expresses herself at Azula, and tells Zuko she cares about him.
I have said many times that once they pulled themselves off of each other long enough to talk, they'd realize that they were all wrong for each other. But they stopped kissing, and they voiced their frustrations with the other. And they got back together.
I'm just worried at how deep they're gonna get into this relationship, and what that would mean for the eventual Zutara. I am not by any means, giving up hope. For one thing I just can't see Katara feeling romantic feelings for Aang, and I really can't see Maiko as being a lasting relationship. And seeing as how Katara is garunteed to end up with one or the other... And Katara and Zuko, let's face it, I may be biased, but it is the perfect pairing. The wounded soul and the healing nurturer.
But it really seems as though Zuko cares about Mai. And even if she has a funny way of showing it, Mai cares about Zuko.
It may come down to Zuko's eventual choice to fight for the good, and where Mai's true loyalty lies...But I get the feeling that there are going to be some plot twists involving Maiko. Something huge might happen to affect their relationship...I'm just not sure what that is yet.
Or maybe...I'm overanalyzing things... sweatdrop I wouldn't worry too much. While it's true that they got back together and survived their first fight, I don't think that automatically means their relationship is stable. Unless Mai starts expressing herself more, she's still going to bore/bother Zuko, and unless Zuko becomes a bit calmer, his temper is still going to annoy Mai. Their problems aren't fixed, just temporarily resolved.
They do care for each other, but that doesn't neccassarily make them right for each other. Their personalities clash too much.
Agreed. Zuko's choice will most likely prove who Mai is truly loyal too, and cause a lot of other huge changes.

heh, Ok, I lied, the next one was Nightmares and Daydreams...
Has anyone else seen it yet? Because something is bothering me, I need to get it out to someone...
Don't highlight unless you've seen the episode already!! I don't wish to spoil anyone!!
Ok, so in the Zuko arc, Zuko hangs out a lot with Mai. And I must say, I've gained a lot of respect for her with this episode. She interacts with him, and it seems that the Beach must have effected her, because she's a lot more open. She's even supportive when Zuko is angsting about not being invited to his father's war meeting. She smiles and makes a playful order for *le gasp* a cake(or whatever) with rose petals on top. Ooh, creative! <3 I agree with Zuko, actually, I like it when she expresses herself. They're starting to act like a real couple, and Zuko is opening up to her a lot more, letting her know about his worries over not being invited. And she actually sympathizes with him, and when he comes out of the meeting later, saying he was literally at his father's right hand, she looks happy, and tells him, he must be so happy. Zuko replies by saying that during the meeting, he was the perfect prince, the son his father had always wanted, but he wasn't himself.
Ok, so here's my problem... I don't think Maiko is going to last. Since I can't see the Kataang relationship going further than a one-sided crush situation, Zutara is the only answer to that area seeing as what the magazine stated about that triangle. Which, is only my most basic argument for Zutara...
But! It seems to me with this episode, that the development of the Maiko relationship is getting deeper. So that poses the question of how Maiko will give way to Zutara in the future.
Thus, I have this thought, or fear, rather, since I am coming to really like Mai...
What if Mai is killed sometime in this season? Maybe she's killed in the invasion? And how exactly will it effect Zuko? Who will be her killer? Am I just losing what little of my mind I still have left?
They are developing, and even Zuko is showing Mai more of his true self, how he's so worried about his father. He already canfessed a huge amount of his turmoil to her (and the others) in The Beach, and now we have this. The Maiko in this episode was, dare I say it, actually kind of sweet...And I can respect it a little more now that there's something behind it other than cheesy pick up lines and smooching...
It's because of all this, that I earlier mentioned my prediction that something is going to happen to Maiko, some Plot twist that will surprise us...Something big is going to happen...Now I fear it may be death...
Or maybe I think too much...

I've gotten over the fact that they got back together, but I can't believe that they tricked us with that preview! I bet that if there's a preview of Katara and Zuko kissing, it would be Aang's nightmare or something...

I'm still disappointed about them not breaking up... It seems like such a empty, bleak relationship.

Hey, Mai and Zuko might have gotten back together, but the issue itself was never resolved. Unless Mai miraculously learns to express herself all the time, and Zuko suddenly learns to be calm, I still don't think things will last. The things they dislike in each other are some of their most defining traits.
Zuko: Short-tempered prince with lots of emotional and mental turmoil. Mai: Azula's bored and apathetic friend.
But Katara only dislikes Zuko's actions, and we don't even know Zuko's feelings towards her. Plus, if the season 2 finale is any indication of their feelings, they can get along pretty well. And, if they did get in a fight, they'd keep fighting until the issue is reolved, since they're both stubborn and won't give up until their opinion is heard. If Mai and Zuko got into an arguement, I think Mai would just leave Zuko to cool off, and never get around to solving the problem.
Err... That turned out longer than I planned. sweatdrop
