Raen Lee Jones As Nick had remained silent, Raen picked up a notepad not far away, and with it a pen, thank goodness. She wrote down something on it, and layed it face down on the floor, next to the couch, her face now expressionless. She could tell it was not going to be easy to get Nick to quit with the drugs. So, she would resort to the one higher person that could help everyone with their troubles. She had talked to that one higher person through the time when her father was beating her, and it had helped, so why couldn't he help Nick? Rae saw no reason.
She turned her 'lost puppy' eyes back on Nick. That was how most people explained her eyes. Her eyes told a lot about Rae, if someone actually took the time to look into them, which in fact, no one had ever done. Because if they had, they would know about her father beating her, the pain that she endured every day, and again that always present feeling of feeling unloved, depressed, and basically unwanted. Because her eyes reflected all that pain behind the happiness. And no one cared enough to really take the time to ask her what was wrong. No one cared.
And that feeling alone, right then and there, make silent tears roll down her pale face, slightly smudging the make up that covered her face, that covered the cuts and bruises. And the tears wouldn't stop. And Nick was speaking again, and it really seemed that he wanted her to go. Oddly, when she spoke, her voice wasn't shaky, despite the tears still going down her face."I wrote something down on the notepad that means something different and also the same to everyone. And when you can actually grasp the meaning of it, I'll know you are ready to stop hurting yourself."She took the notepad from the ground, and handed it to Nick. It read, Idle hands are Devil's handywork. Now, she didn't speak. Only nodded slightly, got up from the floor, and went into the bathroom to fix up her makeup. Hopefully Nick hadn't seen the wounds starting to show where her tears had wiped away the makeup. She then tried to get a hold of herself, and walked to the door. Her hand hesitated a few minutes before she turned the doorknob, and walked out, closing the door quietly behind her.
She walked down the steps, but didn't make it all that far, until she broke down in sobs. She sat on the steps, head in her arms, and tried with all her might to stop crying. Needless to say, it didn't work very well.

Nicholas Christian WinterNick glanced over at Raen as she started to write something down on a piece of paper. He watched as she placed it on the ground and then gave him puppy eyes. He wasn't sure what was on the paper but he was starting to think that maybe Raen was trying send him to rehab or something which was not happening. For a moment Nick stared at Raen and then he noticed the tears running down her face. He raised an eyebrow at her and then listened to what she said before looking down at the paper. What it said made no sense to Nick at all.
Nick tried to read it again but still it made no sense so he decided to give up on it for a while and say something to Raen since he thought he had seen bruises hidden behind her makeup but by time he looked up, she was gone. Nick sighed as he looked back down at the paper again, rereading the words on it, but still not understanding it.
Nick tried to sit up once more, this time managing to get up without getting a huge headache. He was feeling much better and he was glad. He wanted to perform with Raen tonight at the opening of the club. Nick decided to try and stand but when he did, he fell back down when he felt his knees go weak. 'One step at a time I guess...' Nick thought to himself as he sighed. He was thinking back to when Raen had cried, he didn't really understand why she was crying. Was it because of his problem or was it something else? The one thing he hated about Raen was that she held everything inside and didn't tell anyone else about her problems until she can't hold it in anymore. He wanted to help her just like she wanted to help her but he never knew how to help her because he never knew what was wrong.

Raen Lee Jones Rae stopped sobbing long enough to stumble her way down the rest of the stairs, and lean against a shadowed wall. She hated herself for just up and leaving him like that, but if she had stayed, he would have seen what she was trying so hard to hide. She needed to keep it a secret. Everyone would always be worrying about her, and even though she could be a drama queen, Rae didn't want that kind of attention. She wasn't one to show her emotions easily, or open up to anyone.
She glanced up in time to feel raindrops slowly coming down from the sky. "Damn..." She muttered to herself, and suddenly the rain came pouring down. And Rae watched, horrified, as every one of her wounds were becoming visible. Now there was no way she was going back to the apartment or to the club at the moment. She needed to find at least a towel to wrap around herself. But right now, she kept sitting against the wall, hugging her arms to her chest and just letting the rain pour down from the sky, and the tears drip down her face. At least they looked like the rain drops.

Nicholas Christian WinterAfter a while of sitting there and trying to figure out the words on the paper, Nick tried to stand up once more, this time standing up with ease. 'Thank god.' Nick thought to himself as he slowly started to walk around the apartment. He was feeling so much better now, he was almost feeling like his normal self now. 'I guess I'll go to the club now and try to help out.' Nick thought to himself as he walked to the door and for a second felt the room spin. He quickly stopped in his place and waited for it to stop. He then sighed and continued walking to the door, leaving the apartment, and locking the door behind him.
Nick started to walk down the hallway and over to the elevator when he felt his head starting to pound again. He tried to walk a bit slower but it didn't seem to help. Nick stopped walking when he reached the elevator and waited for his head to stop pounding while he waited for the elevator. When his sudden headache finally disappeared, he pushed the elevator button and waited for it to arrive.

Raen Lee Jones Sighing, Rae got up from where she was, and began to walk the opposite way of the club. From everything. After a while of walking, she just stopped walking, letting the pouring rain fall on her, her hair and clothes soaking wet now. But she didn't care. It felt almost cleansing. Most likely because the makeup was being washed away, the cuts and bruises now showing. She sighed, and kept walking.
She closed her eyes and put her hand lightly on the wall, trailing her fingers over the brick of the building. It was odd. From one person of her past, most would think that she would be cold and unfeeling. But, she cared for others much, much more than she cared for herself. Rae was never happy with herself, no matter what. But she had finally learned to accept herself, but most of the time she was not too happy with herself. She stopped walking again, and leaned against a wall again, thinking. She wasn't ready to face anyone right now, but she knew she'd either run into one of her friends, or just have to go back sometime soon.

Nicholas Christian WinterNick walked onto the elevator and started to head down to the club but then decided instead to go to the store first to get something for his headache. The medicine he had in the apartment was obivously not working. Nick sighed when he noticed that it was raining and he never bothered to buy an umbrella so he had no choice but to walk out in the rain. At first he ran from spot to spot but then he gave up and just walked out in the rain. He was too tired and dizzy to be bothered with running around and avoiding rain drops.
Nick was about to cross the street when he spotted Raen in the distance. At firs he just thought it was someone who looked like her but after looking at her for a while, he was sure that it was her. Nick jumped when he heard a car honk his horn and that's when he realized that he had started to walk across the street and then stopped in the middle when he noticed Raen. "Sorry." Nick said and then quickly ran across the street, making another car come to a screeching halt. "Sorry again!" he shouted and then ran over to Raen. "Raen, what are you doing out in the rain?" Nick asked, not being able to see her face since her wet hair was covering it.

Raen Lee Jones Raen sighed slightly, still lost in her thoughts. She finally figured out why she always kept everything inside. She just didn't want people to worry about her. Yeah, sure, she worried about other people, but in her opinion, she wasn't really worth worrying about. She guessed that reason was because not only did her father hit her, he always yelled at her, saying that she was never good enough. And no one loved her.
Thats when a thought hit her. How can anyone love a person like me? She wondered. She was so kept to herself, that people would probably just leave her, not even taking a second thought. She wouldn't blame them. However, Raen was jerked out of her reverie once she heard a car horn. She looked around, and her eyes widened at the sight of Nick running over. When he asked her why she was out in the rain, she made a point of avoiding answering it."Me? What about you? What the hell are you doing out here? You still look horrible!" Rae had to raise her voice a bit more than normal for Nick to hear her over the rain. Shouldn't he be resting? She then realized that her wounds were showing. She bit her lip, and looked away from him, really hoping that he didn't notice.

Nicholas Christian Winter"Jeez, thanks." Nick said when Raen had said he still looked horrible. He smiled but it was a weak one. He was glad that Raen had raised her voice a bit because it was hard to hear anything over the rain and the thumping in his head. "I came out here to get something for my headaches...they're killing me." Nick told Raen.
He was about to say something else when he saw the bruises and cuts on Raen's face. He a moment he just stared at her while he watched her look away but then he finally asked, "What happened to you?" He wasn't sure weather she got those bruises and such from being clumsy or from being beat up. He moved over a bit so that he could get a better look and he finally decided that someone must have hit her. "Who hit you!?" he slightly shouted, his anger starting to get the better of him.

Raen Lee Jones Rae flashed him a quick smile, trying her best to cover up all the other cuts and bruises on her arms. "Well, make sure you don't go overboard on them hun, kay?" Rae's smile vanished when he asked what had happened to her. she struggled to think of something, and tried to turn a bit more away from him. She wasn't quick enough. He had moved in front of her.
Rae's eyes widened as she heard Nick yell. And he looked angry. Like her father. Instantly, out of habit from when she heard that kind of yell, Raen shied away from Nick, too quickly, and slipped. She landed on her side, then sat up on the ground, her arms around her knees again, and her face hidden. This was just the kind of reaction that she didn't want.
And instead of the strong, smiling Raen that most people were used to, here was this cowering, crumbling girl. Someone who had been hurt all of her life for just existing. She didn't know what it was like to be hugged, loved, or whatever. Her mother never did, because when anyone got near Raen, her father wouln't have it. His mind must have been set on making Rae's life so miserable so that she would end it herself. But she didn't. But she was scared, a perfect example right now.

Nicholas Christian WinterNick blinked when Raen had yelled and then back away from him. He noticed her foot side on the wet pavement and he went to grab her but was too late, she had already fallen to the ground. He watched as she instantly pulled her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them before she started to cry. Nick was a bit shocked at what he was seeing. Up until now he had never really seen her cry. Maybe he's seen a few tears escape from her eyes but never really seen her cry.
Nick quickly dropped to his knees as he wrapped his arms around Raen. He wanted her to stop crying but he didn't know how. Who hit her? He wasn't sure he could even point out anyone, Raen never showed any signs before of being beaten, was this the first time or had it happened many times before. After thinking back to how Raen had backed away from Nick when he raised his voice, he was sure she had been beaten many times before. He just couldn't figure out when. He'd seen Raen everyday and she always seemed alright. How could he have missed something like this.
"Raen please don't cry." Nick begged her as he hugged her tighter. "I promise you I'm going to make it stop. I'm not going to let them hurt you anymore. I just need you to tell me who's doing this to you." Nick was sure as soon as he knew who did this to her, he was going to beat them senseless and then report them to the police if he didn't beat them to death first. His eyes narrowed as he thought of someone hurting someone as kind and thoughtful as Raen. It just wasn't right, she never did anything wrong.

Raen Lee Jones Raen felt so helpless in the moment that Nick had wrapped his arms around her. She felt vulnerable, and just so scared. Everything, every hit, every kick, every pain was coming back to her that her father had ever inflicted on her, and it made her angry. She couldn't speak at the moment, so she just focused on making herself make steady, even breaths. Maybe it was time to tell someone about everything. Just one person.
She sighed deeply, and looked straight into Nick's eyes. "Want the truth? My father has been beating me since I entered first grade. And its been getting worse over the years." She said, her voice surprisingly steady. She hated the man she called dad for what he was. And the one thing that had hurt her most is that he had once said, 'How could anyone love a thing like you?' And she really hated him for it.

Nicholas Christian WinterNick slightly nodded when Raen had asked if he wanted the truth. He did want the truth, for once he wanted to know what was going on in Raen's head and he wanted to know what happened when no one else was around. He wanted to know...he just wasn't expecting to hear what she said.
Nick's mouth slightly dropped as her words repeated in his head. "Since the first grade...?" Nick asked even though he had just heard Raen say that. He just could believe it. Her own father had been beating her since she was in the first grade and even worse, Nick never once realized it. He knew Raen since forever and he couldn't even see that she was being beaten everything day by her father. What was wrong with him!? What kind of friend was he?
Nick was becoming angrier by the second. He wanted to hit Raen's father square in the face, he wanted to yell at Raen for keeping this a secret for so long, and he wanted to yell at himself for not picking this up sooner. Nick tried to calm himself down so that he wouldn't say anything that would upset her. He knew that she had be hiding this for so long because she didn't want anyone to worry about her. He'd been trying to do the same with his drug addiction even though it seemed like everyone knew. "Why didn't you tell me before? Why did you wait so long?" Nick said, trying to stay calm and not yell at her but his voice ended up raising as it went on. "I'm not going to let him hurt you anymore. I'm going to give him a piece of my mind and then I'm going to have him locked up forever!!"

Raen Lee Jones Raen nodded slightly. She knew she was good at hiding these kinds of things, but she wasn't sure if it was a good thing. Apparently it wasn't, seeing as Nick was having a very hard time trying to keep his anger in. She sighed quietly, and got up from the ground. She turned away from him again, and bit her lip. No, she wasn't mad at him, she just couldn't bring herself to say anything. Nor could she think of anything to say.
But when he asked her why had she kept it hidden for so long, she didn't turn around to answer him. "Because this is exactly what I was trying to prevent! He doesn't care enough to come looking for me here, to hit me again. No one does. Don't you get it? There was nothing anyone could do, and most people didn't care enough to really take a look at me, and really wonder what was wrong. Who could ever love something like me, huh?" She laughed bitterly as she repeated the words that her father had said to her. She shook her head, and still didn't turn towards him. "If you dare go near my father, I swear, he'll kill you if he knew you were one of my friends. So don't. Just.... Don't try."Raen still didn't turn around. She looked around the place where she was standing, but just couldn't bring herself to turn around and look at Nick.

Nicholas Christian WinterNick felt like screaming something out at the top of his lungs but he didn't want to startle Raen again. He wanted to stop Raen from finishing he sentence but when he heard that almost everyone didn't noticed her hurting he felt a bit guilty. He should have noticed it but he hadn't. He really was a bad friend, all he had to do was look into her eyes and see the sadness that it held deep inside. How could he miss it?
Nick shook his head as Raen continued on. "That's bullshit!" Nick slightly yelled. He wanted to bring down his voice but at the moment he couldn't. He was too worked up to be able to. "I care about you." Nick told Raen and then quietly added, "I love you..." Nick slightly gasped when he realized what he had said. He wasn't sure if Raen would realize what he meant. Nick shook his head and then quickly added, "I'm not afraid of your father. He won't kill me because he'll be too beat up to do anything to me. When I see him I'm going to make sure he knows that I'm your friend and I'm going to beat on him like he's done to you for all over these years."

Raen Lee Jones Afer Raen had said it, she felt bad for saying what she had said. She just couldn't really control what she was saying at the moment, and all her emotions were taking control of her. She finally turned around to face him, her expression slightly sad when he yelled. Again, she bit at her lip, but blinked slightly as she heard him say something she was sure he had not just said. Her eyes widened even more."No, you won't! Listen, you beat him up randomly, you'll probably get sent to jail or something, no matter what he's done to me. And you know what? Let the cops deal with it. I don't want to see you get in trouble for a mistake I made, Nick."She sighed again, but this time looked right into his eyes, tilting her head to the side slightly. "By the way, you what me?" She asked, raising an eyebrow slightly. He must've just made a word slip-up or something. She just wanted to make sure.
