Jon-OH Saradiel I watched a tv movie with Lucy Lawless about locusts last night. That's how deeply my 'life' has sunk... sank.. something. it's okay, Lucy Lawless is at least a marginal hotty. The locusts ate the not-quite-evil-paid-by-Defense Dept creator of the Uber-Locusts-of-Doom. After they sent his daughter into a coma by attacking her bus and then she fell and hit her head. But she woke up, and she called him and was like, "I love you daddy! I look like a bug!" and he said "I love you too honey! Yes you do!" and then he went to get gas for the generator, to turn the silo into a huge bug-zapper, and they ate him alive. But he only died after he made it back into the silo with the gas.

Pfft, Locust is the form that grasshoppers mature into when their parents have already eaten most of the food so that they can move the whole population to somewhere else and eat all the food again, why would they move towards light sources like bug zappers? In other news (ok, after saying that I can't do anything but just act like an idiot so.. try to enjoy ^_^ I'll at least not make awful typo's but other than the spelling and grammar you might as well imagine anguls saying this, aka progressivly less punctuation until you can almost say there is a negative ammount of it omg I'm already starting to do that,) I spun a cocoon and have now emerged with butterfly wings. I was hoping I could make them orange wings like the monarch butterflies that swarmed like locusts one year when I was small and if you went driving at all they all died on the windshield if you went over five miles per hour they are yellow on the inside did you know that I think that was the year with a late frost on those trees they all migrate to that made like two feet of dead butterflies all over the place I want a capterpillar suit then I could go through the forest eating five times my wieght in leaves I've been acting likea glutton lately but I'm too lazy to bring food to where I am so I won't get fat does anyone still have easter candy I have alot cuz my sister got tired of her candy and gave it all to me so now I have three easter baskets of candy but I'm saving the cadbury cream eggs for last cuz I always eat them first and then they are gone till next east but damn I have alot of chocolate and yucky gummy things to eat first but I found out that they make mini cadbury eggs only that it sucks because they don't have any cream in the middle and wtf why is there a shell on the outside?
... ok, I feel better now. Hopefully by the next time I have to do that everyone will have forgotten this ever happened except maybe Banshi who can post a picture about deja vu and then someone will step in front of her while another person covers her mouth and she tries to speak but it;s all muffled and oh crap I'm still doing this someone help me I think maybe if Thad pays me those bats to the spine he owes me for all those times I said Gremlinpanz it might be enough but just to be safe gremlinpanz gremlinpanz. (Please help me.)

Actually there was no light.... and they were attracted to shinies for some reason.... but that was later.
The reason the bug-zapper thingy worked the first time was that all the locusts were trying to get into a metal silo because there was tons of corn and other grains in it. So they were all over it and inside the people (Lucy Lawless, her dad, her estranged husband/father of her unborn child, and doctor) had found a generator (the dad guy's generator) so they just kind of put the hooky-thingies on the steel wall and it sparked a lot but just inside where the thing touched the wall. and then all the Locusts fell off en masse.
It was a stupid movie. Made-for-tv and whatnot. they even filled in a major plothole with one sentence. "Blahblah electric dead blah... and in a miraculous something-or-other, all the remaining locusts are sterile because of how bioengineered they are!" yeah. they've been ******** like rabbits and created two mega-swarms, yet now SUDDENLY they're all sterile.
d'oh.

Well, the sterility thing is actually sort of plausible if they are hybrid creatures. Alot of the time similar animals can get their mixed chromosomes to form an actual living creature but then the chromosomes are too different from each other to properly match up for meiosis (If you don't remember enough highschool science that's the one where the chromosomes pair up and then go off to the now seperating cells but without any copies made so they can make sperm and eggs,) so the new animal can't make babies with anything. Ligers and Mules are examples of this (Lion<->Tiger, Donkey<->Horse.) Now, as for the generator... Ok, I don't see there being just a single grain silo in a place. Was there just some stubborn farmer who wouldn't sell his land so it could be made into city buildings as all of the other farmland was pushed hundreds of miles away? Oh, maybe they were doing that communal farming thing our gov't could never get to work back like a million years ago when the economy was falling apart and they just put all of their grain into a super mega silo. That would probably have rat problems though... Now, if the generator created a direct current it would simply take one hundred generators to create enough energy to "fry" andything touhing part of the path. Direct current also doesn't carry very far so even if the generator could zap them very close to the source I question (haha, I'm using understatement,) whether it could carry up the entire silo with enough strength for that. But if the generator somehow used an alternating current then there would be no reason for the bugs to be affected by it at all. Although alternating current is much easier to use to kill things (it causes your muscles to uncontrollably contact so you just can't get away from it until your muscles have become unusable... which is bad. Now, there are two ways to get alternating current to go through a creature. A: The creature has to be more conductive than whatever was carrying the current. This works if the current is trying to go through... say... air- but with a grain silo that whole thing is metal so it carries current much better than I expect a grasshopper would. Unless maybe if they were genetically engineered to be both made out of metal and also super conductors... which would rock- but I don't think that is the case here. B: The reature must create a shorter path having less total resistance. However that silo Was most likely not constructed as a pair of parallel wires. Even if it was made out of a coil the whole thing would automatically short circuit to the shortest path from cable to cable. Now, perhaps if the wires had a third and fourth coil of some sort of resistor seperating them it might work but that would be an utterly rediculous design for a super mega silo. ...perhaps it could work for a regular silo~ (joking agian.) This is why birds can sit on telephone lines. As long as they don't touch the other line there is no reason for the electricty to go through them when the metal is so much more conductive. The circuit, however, is very long so if they touch the other wire they make a path that is relatively easier than going through miles and miles of metal.
As for their attraction to the grain in the silo: When whatever colony of grasshoppers starts to starve they make a slightly different group of eggs. These mature into locusts and then take to the skies and try to spread themselves around to where there is more food. Mass swarming towards a single concentration of food is an utterly ridiculous way to guarantee the next generation but I guess when our scientists are too stupid to keep their specimens from escaping into the wild they aren't smart enough to make specimens that can survive anyway. Now if I were going to genetically engineer grasshoppers I'd just have fun making them glow and making the larva into aquatic, tentacle bearing worms that eat plankton. Hoo-ee! That thing would have practically no chance of reaching a second generation!!
Edit: Thanks `diel, looks like you snapped me out of it.

Especially when the military guy was like 'OHNOEZE we must take teh MILITA-REE ACTIONZ! We must uze teh conventional or teh non-conventional weapon-reez!"
me and friends: Right, so... M-16s vs. Locusts??? WTF?
Miltary guys: "We must uzes teh VX Nerve Gas!!!"
Me and friends: *multiple headdesks* IDIOTS!

Made for TV movies are horrid, why do people still watch them? ANd you have to wonder how far a film maker, who undoubtably had dreams at one point of being the next like... Spielburg, would have to fall before they'd be willing to do something like... "Locusts" or equally as rediculous, anything on Lifetime, television for idiots

They'd have to fall approximately 372 kilometers- their terminal velocity constantly increased by the weigth of countless failures.

Heavy like-being inside of a box full of full sized tanks filled with lead-heavy is getting close to the right weight for this sort of thing.
