Q: What's your favorite 80's cartoon?
(Mine's either My Little Ponies or Street Sharks... Yey, street sharks)

A: Transformers were 80's weren't they? But so was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Q: What do you think about insects?

Even if the line is unknown, I really can't stand people that throw themselves away. Losing yourself is a part of growing that a lot of people experience. It's not necesarily a bad thing.

It's not a part of everyone's growing up, or the world would be a better place, or a lonelier place, since the very act of losing yourself involves, to some extent, throwing yourself away. From this, you can either grow or die. It's a careless, violent act, self-destruction. It is not a part of growing up; it is a part of overcoming.

I didn't say everyone.
The act of losing yourself requires that you throw part of you away. Not necessarily all.
You can't really grow up without overcoming anything in life can you?

You just quoted the theme of every Chuck Palanuihk book.

I did? This is drawn with thanks to my influences: Nietzsche, Machiavelli, Plato, and the others-who-I-don't-talk-about-because.

Yep.
Fight Club - You never know yourself until you've been pushed past the edge.
Invisible Monsters - You never know yourself until you've destroyed yourself.
Diary - You never know yourself until you destroy all expectations.
Survivor - Sometimes you don't know yourself until you're killing yourself.

I honestly don't remember the theme of Choke, but I should. I lied. There are a couple of his books that don't fall into that category and I haven't read his newest book yet.
Lullabye - Words are just as deadly as physical force.

Sorry, when I talk about overcoming, I'm using a specific definition of the word. It is not to prevail over something. It is to go beyond it, over the bridge of mankind, into the overman. It is to die.

Anyway, this is far off-subject. The point is that I respect alcoholics and stoners more than most people here. That was not a subject for debate, and it did not demand a defense of anyone else's position. We approach the subject of my faith, which is personal to me and not an appropriate discussion for open forum.

Ah ok I see now. Makes sense.

Fair enough. I don't really think I was defending myself. I think I was just clarifying.

Stoners on the other hand, I have no respect for.

Nios
I also do not like alcoholics and have no respect for them.

Keithing
Nios, my respect for you just keeps growing.

When you've never been lost, what can you know of being found? I respect alcoholics and stoners more than I respect most of you.
I'm guessing this was directed at me as well. Just for clarity's sake, I want to say my comment was in regard to the fact that a) Nios had the guts to be blunt, and b) that despite the hypocrisy in the methods and some of the statements, I applaud the commitment.

Insects. I like them and find them interesting, but I can't stand mosquitoes, of all things. Maybe because those damn blood-sucking females just won't stay away, and I'm the kind that gets large welts where I'm bitten. Yesterday, I got bitten on my adam's apple. You'd think a warm hand or exposed hand would be enough, but no. It looked like a fresh hickey! gonk

A: Hotdogs and hamburgers I think.
Q: What's the worst thing you've ever said to someone? [Alternate question: What's the worst thing someone's said to you?]

A: "******** do it already and quit bitching."
Alternately, "Be gone by the time I wake up."

Q: Something you've said that you wish you could take back. Not because it was mean, just embarrasing.

I believe that drugs which significantly alter one's state of mind for a decent period of time should not be allowed unless prescribed( and drugs which are to easy to abuse, like pot, should not be prescribed). There is too much potential for harm to one's self and others, and health issues related to most drugs as well.

Why is it okay if it's prescribed?

I said drugs that are easy to abuse, like pot, shouldn't be, and, if you will allow me this one conceit, I am assuming the doctors prescribing these things to be knowledgeable and ethical, knowing that the medications will genuinely helpt the patients.

The doctors may be knowlegeable and ethical.

What about side effects? What if you could do some other illegal drug, feel better, and choose your own side effects?

Q: Everytime you type "Q:" in this thread, do you get the impulse you're talking to me, and have to reassure yourself you're only abreviating the word "question"? xd

Q: Do you get along with your siblings? [If you do not have siblings, cousins maybe?]

There's a difference, Jo, between losing yourself and throwing yourself away. Where to draw that fine line, though, even I don't know.

I should think most of us don't have a clue.

That doesn't mean it's not important.

CraftyUnicorn
I think this thread has become filled with more truth recently than it was when there were only questions here.

[Q]
it's better knowing that you're not wanted than constantly wondering if you are or not.

Worth repeating.

TuffGhost

Most illegal drugs are illegal for a reason( admittedly this is a topic of hot debate). As long as we make the assumption( perhaps unrealistic) that your doctor has your best interest in mind, there's no reason you should have to choose your own drugs.
