Kendra hid her face in shame as she felt hot tears tickling the edges of her eyes. "I can't go home...." She whispered more to herself than anyone, "I am lost....a lost dragon. Humans took me....killed my parents....i was too young, i hadn't yet developed a sense of direction.....i've spent my whole life looking.....but i can't get home."

Kendra looked at the point where Alassea had disappeared. "So, Alassea," She said softly, "How am i to go back to where i came from, when i don't know where it is?" A tear of pure flames rolled down her cheek and fell to the ground, instantly solidifying into a drop of amber.

Kendra sighed and looked down at the ground, her eyes finding only the little amber stone. "It was wrong of me to have started it in the first place. I'm older than her, i should know better than to listen to such stupid words." Waving away Tokai's hands, she bent down and picked up the droplet of amber and held it carefully, admiring it. "Tokai, do you know what happens when a dragon dies?" She asked absent-mindedly.

Kendra smiled slightly ironically as she answered, "They cry a droplet of amber so large that it contains their very life and soul.....Where do you think most humans get their amber from? They won't wait for tree sap to mature for a million years. They catch it from a dragon's eye just as it falls, which means that they prevent many dragon souls from their peaceful eternal rest. If the drop of amber never reaches the ground, never shatters....the dragon's spirit is trapped forever." A sad look crossed her face as she said this, remembering the same fate had happened to her poor parents. "Remember when i arrived here i said i had been running away from some angry villagers who thought that i had killed some innocent people? Those 'innocent people' were egg stealers, and i'd caught them taking eggs from a nest. They would've waited for the little ones to hatch, and then killed them while they were still weak....just to get amber to make themselves rich." She wrinkled her nose at this. "It's disgusting, so i had to stop them."

Kendra looked surprised for a moment, then smiled at him. "Until i find my real home, i wouldn't mind living here. A place to return to....after another hopeless day of searching." She sighed and added, "If you want to imagine what being a dragon is like, picture this: You humans have to live in a brood, for, say, comfort, and the strength you have together. Your hatchlings are the most important thing to you on this earth as they are the next generation, another generation that will stop your kind from becoming extinct. Imagine that they were being stolen from you in big groups, by, say, a creature that has never threatened you before, like rats, because the rats had found a good use for them. Wouldn't you be angry?"

Kendra smiled unsurely. "Thank you, Tokai.....it really is important that i get back to them, they're counting on me....they need me to help them. If not many lives could be lost. Who knows what could have happened to them during the many years i've been lost?"
