There's no other way to battle them, though! You can only kill them through alchemy. Remember when Edward killed Greed?

this is the other item that can kill homunculi...this is a *raises it into the air* BUSO RENKIN OF THE SCYTHE! "ICY FURY!" *the item then turns into a funky-looking scythe with an ice blade*

actaully in the manga someone seemed to kill gluttony by destorying the container for the fake stones in his body (granted he got to it with alcemy, but all he did was destory it)
