Nios, my respect for you just keeps growing.

Thanks sweatdrop I was afraid I came off as an oppressive hypocrite in that post.

Q: If you could change one historical event (which would, of course, affect everything related thereafter), time paradoxes aside, what would you do? Why or what effect would you intend it to have?

A: Good question. Hmm perhaps having the whole zionist movement dealt with in a more coordinated anf thought out way? I'm not sure how I personally could effect that event. If I for some reason did have power or influence I would liked to have considered the Palastinians feelings. I would have sympathized with the Zionists but I would have to side with the Territorialists. I would hope that this would give the Jewish people a place to call home even if it isn't their original homeland, thus avoiding the massive loss of innocent lives.
Q: same question

Nios
Stoners on the other hand, I have no respect for.

Nios
I also do not like alcoholics and have no respect for them.

When you've never been lost, what can you know of being found? I respect alcoholics and stoners more than I respect most of you.

I have no respect when they don't admit they have a problem, don't care about their problem, don't care how their problem affects others, and don't care or want to overcome their addiction.

I have been a stoner. I wasn't an alcoholic but I did drink pretty heavily years ago.

Even if you can't quit these things, as long as you try, you gain my respect. When people just give up, that's what I don't respect. When they don't try. When they don't care to try.

I'll add to this later.

My respect begins at zero. It grows with question and rebellion. I believe in the power of self-destruction to heal. My respect is reserved for those who destroy themselves and overcome. Because the middle ground is the rockiest part of this path, I hold a great deal of respect for the person at or approaching their darkest point.

The best people I know will lose everything and strive to overcome. There is at least one person in this guild who has done this, besides me, which is why I respect him more than he is able to understand.

If this isn't coherent, it's because I'm still learning these lessons. We're discussing a subject only a year old for me. I used to lose respect for people who lost themselves until I lost myself. Now I'm not so haphazard with the tossing and taking of my respect.

There's a difference, Jo, between losing yourself and throwing yourself away. Where to draw that fine line, though, even I don't know.

I should think most of us don't have a clue.

My respect for people also starts at 0. When someone gains a lot of respect from me and others and then decides to throw it all away, it angers me. When someone I care about deeply and love, thinks destroying their lives doesn't affect me, I can't help but lose most of my respect. I've known far too many people throw me away just to feed their addictions. Addictions do not just affect one person, they affect all the people around them.

I've had my addictions. I was a disgusting fiend that cared about no one and treated people horribly. I had no consideration for other people. I lost complete respect for myself. I still hate myself for what I did. I did overcome my addiction but that isn't much to talk about it. It was minor really; completely insignificant in the eyes of others.

I never said I was right. I admit that I am oppressive, hypocritical, and cruel.
If someone strives to overcome then there is no way I couldn't respect that. Even if they don't succeed at least they accepted that they had a problem rather then denying it and they tried to beat it. Failing, doesn't lose respect.

I respect the alcoholics and drug addicts that realize they have a problem and try to beat it. I do not respect those that don't care about their problem.

I agree that the strongest people are those that have overcome the hardest trials of life. It takes a lot more to lose respect then I'm making it out to seem. I'm friends with a lot of stoners. Most of my friends at one time in their life suffered from some form of addiction. Becoming a stoner does not make me lose respect, it's what they do when they've become one that they may lose or gain my respect.

If someone loses my respect, they don't lose all of it. If someone gets to the point where I can't stand to be friends with them and I can't help them anymore, I just wait. I wait, and if in time they turn their lives around then I will forget what happened and respect them more than before. It's sad, but I just can't help people with those problems anymore. I'm more useful for being there so they can beat on me and take them back later.

Even if the line is unknown, I really can't stand people that throw themselves away. Losing yourself is a part of growing that a lot of people experience. It's not necesarily a bad thing.

Gee, then you must respect me TONS. xd

You

The best people I know will lose everything and strive to overcome. There is at least one person in this guild who has done this, besides me, which is why I respect him more than he is able to understand.

Which is why he gets so guilty about everything when he messes up or soes something wrong. Because he knws that most everyone who knows anything about respects puts him on some type of respect pedastal. (No offense intended... if it somehow offended someone).

A: I'd go back to the.. Meiji era, was it? The era where all the huge wars happened between samurai in Japan. I'd go there to... Watch. Or learn. Or something. Something about huge carnage, and being able to train and understand it so well just enlightens me. Kind of like The Last Samurai deal, although I doubt the Japanese would keep the American that long and keep training him, after he disgrace dhimself so many times.

Q: If you were going to kill someone(s), what would be your weapon/way/tactic of choice?
If you were a normal person doing it, and you know, had to evade the law and such.
Disclaimer: you shouldn't do this. (to keep me safe from mods)

You just quoted the theme of every Chuck Palanuihk book.

I think this thread has become filled with more truth recently than it was when there were only questions here.

A: I'd like to say that I'd kill them in a cool way, like a horror movie style machete through the gut, or dismemberment by chainsaw. However, I'm a puss, so it'd probably just be a gun or a baseball bat and completely by accident.

Q: Is there anything you believe, but don't admit to because its "silly" by most standars?

Q: Do you ever feel like you're forcing your friends to be friends with you? As if it's some unpleasant chore one must do to be nice?

Not sure what you were saying about the unpleasant chore part, but yes.
I sometimes feel like I'm forcing other friends to be friends with me (Crafty, for a long while, but also some rl people). And I do also feel that people are only being friends with me because they feel sorry for me(Person I shall not name, but mostly rl people).

And while I do believe it is nice to stay friends with people who you think need it, but you don't like them, I think it'd be healthier for both of you to end it. Ignoring is the hard way; don't do it. It's slapped me in the face multiple times. You have to come out and say, "Hey, I don't want to be friends with you anymore, and this is why."

Atleast from my point of view, it's better knowing that you're not wanted than constantly wondering if you are or not.

Q: What's your favorite cartoon? (not anime)
PostPosted: Thu Jul 07, 2005 12:01 pm

A: Ed, Edd, and Eddy. I love that show. No, wait, Drawn Together. Or maybe Recess. Philmore. No, I'm sorry. I can't decide.

And I really don't hate you, Q. You have issues, but you're doing better. If I weren't completely dumb, I'd call you.

Q: What's your favorite videogaming platform (PS2, NES, Atari, computer...)?

A: NES! But SNES is up there.
Q: How do you feel about insects?
PostPosted: Thu Jul 07, 2005 12:04 pm

xd Crafty, I didn't say you hated me. I'm over that- really.
I said that in the beginning, for a really long while, it felt like I was forcing you to be friends with me.

A: Ps2!!! YAY!

Q: What's your favorite 80's cartoon?
(Mine's either My Little Ponies or Street Sharks... Yey, street sharks)

It's not a part of everyone's growing up, or the world would be a better place, or a lonelier place, since the very act of losing yourself involves, to some extent, throwing yourself away. From this, you can either grow or die. It's a careless, violent act, self-destruction. It is not a part of growing up; it is a part of overcoming.

[Q]
Gee, then you must respect me TONS. xd

It is surprising, probably to you as well, the lengths you have left to fall.

Pedestal is hardly the right word. I think he knows better than that.

I did? This is drawn with thanks to my influences: Nietzsche, Machiavelli, Plato, and the others-who-I-don't-talk-about-because.
