Had a beautiful night. I spent the night at a friend's house watching Wonderfalls and House, and we spent a good hour turning a sketch of a flower into this creepy nightmarish thing that's actually not s**t. *tail wag* I didn't exactly do my reading homework, buuuuttt... that's not really that important, is it?

Things are bad for me. I'm faced with the decision to either go see my grandparents over Christmas, or quit my part-time job. I love my grandparents dearly, but I like making money too.....and they say if I can't come out there, then they'll fly out here. Which is bad. I don't want that, because it would be insane. My dad would have to borrow my mom's car, drive it to Tulsa, pick them up at the airport, and then drive all the way back, provided we can find a hotel or something in Sallisaw. They can't spend time at my house, because we only have two bedrooms, both of which are occupied, and my mom's house is off limits, as it's a ******** mess and there's no room for them there. s**t s**t s**t.

Also, my math homework keeps piling up on me. WILL THE INSANITY NEVER STOP?! gonk

Have them fly you out instead. Do you not get vacation for Christmas? If not, ask for it, work something out. Just relax and take it easy. People can be more willing to work with you so long as they've got notice of what's going on.

It's easier when you're part time. As long as you've got the notice, there shouldn't be a problem. When I worked at the grocery store, I simply had to tell my manager that my parents were going to Missouri, and that I wanted to go with them for a week, and I got the time off.

Now if you didn't tell them, they scheduled you, and you went anyway, THEN there would be problems.

As for me, I had my heart SET on going back to Vermont for Christmas, but as a full-timer at a hotel, by law I am exempt from the luxuries of holiday time (and pay). So I'm stuck here, and there's nothing I can do about that.... crying

It seems that if you haven't worked at the job for a year at least, you don't get a vacation. I guess I could try.asking...the most I'd be able to be off for would be a week, due to college and everything.

Yes. The store only closes two days a year: Christmas Day and Thanksgiving. That's IT. Every other day it's open from 8 to 8, 9-8 on Sundays. Put it down to the owners wanting to make as much money as possible. mad Greedy bastards.

What? What law is this? We have people who work full-time at our video store and get holiday time off if they need it.

What? What law is this? We have people who work full-time at our video store and get holiday time off if they need it.
I work in the hospitality business...namely a hotel. People travel a lot for holidays, and stay in hotels a lot. SOMEONE has to be there to maintain the building, and since it's gonna be so busy they need EVERYONE. I don't know what law, exactly, it is, but my managers assure me that it's there. Even they don't get to leave. The thing that really rubs me the wrong way, though, is apparently we don't even get extra pay for it...... stare

As to the grocery-store business: Sure they may be "greedy bastards" for staying open all the time like that, but during the holidays is the BUSIEST time of year for the retail (and hospitality) field. Have you ever started Thanksgiving dinner and realized "OMG I FORGOT THE PIE?!" or that you've run out of sugar, or some other critical factor? The retail business (especially grocery) depends a lot on those last-minute shoppers...Don't worry Fog...if you're gonna be stuck working it, at least the time will fly by! wink

I wish I wrote this......I got it in my daily joke email....and I love this person's creativity:

Quote:
This is an actual essay written by a college applicant, when
applying to NYU where he now attends.

3A. ESSAY IN ORDER FOR THE ADMISSIONS STAFF OF OUR COLLEGE TO
GET TO KNOW YOU, THE APPLICANT, BETTER, WE ASK THAT YOU ANSWER
THE FOLLOWING QUESTION:

ARE THERE ANY SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCES YOU HAVE HAD, OR
ACCOMPLISHMENTS YOU HAVE REALIZED, THAT HAVE HELPED TO DEFINE
YOU AS A PERSON?

I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing
ice. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch
breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat
retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees, I write
award-winning operas, I manage time efficiently. Occasionally,
I tread water for three days in a row.

I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I
can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed,
and I cook Thirty-Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. I am an
expert in stucco, a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru.

Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once
single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin
from a horde of ferocious army ants. I play bluegrass cello, I
was scouted by the Mets, I am the subject of numerous
documentaries. When I'm bored, I build large suspension bridges
in my yard. I enjoy urban hang gliding. On Wednesdays, after
school, I repair electrical appliances free of charge.

I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless
bookie. Critics worldwide swoon over my original line of
corduroy evening wear. I don't perspire. I am a private
citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I have been caller number nine
and have won the weekend passes. Last summer I toured New
Jersey with a traveling centrifugal-force demonstration. I bat
.
400. My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame in
international botany circles. Children trust me.

I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly
accuracy. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby d**k, and David
Copperfield in one day and still had time to refurbish an
entire dining room that evening. I know the exact location of
every food item in the supermarket. I have performed several
covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do
sleep, I sleep in a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I
successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had
seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply to me.

I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all
paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in
full-contact origami. Years ago I discovered the meaning of
life but forgot to write it down. I have made extraordinary
four course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven. I
breed prizewinning clams. I have won bullfights in San Juan,
cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at
the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart
surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis.

But I have not yet gone to college.

******** ******** ******** ******** ******** for the language.

I don't know what to do right now. I'm on the verge of bursting out into tears, and punching the wall hard. I'm angry, guilty, upset, all at once.

Why? Cause my mom found my myspace. Because my ******** b***h cousins searched my name, foudn it, and told my mother about it. Yes, I realize it was stupid putting my name in, I wish I had been smart enough to not put it in casue none of this would have happened. But it has, and it's to late to turn it back. And now my mom is really upset and hurt and angry and bitched at me for like a half hour before my friend Amanda said something and my mom realized I had a guest over and was like "I'll call you later"

If she calls, I may not answer the phone, grah.

Here is a list of the things that pissed her off the most, and why I think they really weren't as big a deal as she made them.

1) I have where I live on there - Yes, I do. I have PITTSBURGH on there...OMG someone can so find me now. Even with the fact that pittsburgh is ******** huge and I technically dont' even actually live anywhere near the city itself and more off in a township on the side. So, yeah, how does having pittsburgh on there gonna hurt me?

2) I have my college on there - So? There are TWO CAMPUSES. One where I go, and one downtown in pittsburgh, I think there's possibly a third one as well. Plus, it's a huge school, and it's not like I gave them my ******** schedule so they'd know where I am at all time.

3) I have where I work on there. - Okay, maybe not such a good idea. I took it off. I just wanted to show off I had a job, but if it's bad, then fine. But still, I dont' see how that would hurt me. Seriously. it's a public place, for crying out loud, who would try and grab me there?

4) I have pictures on there (although she could noly see my profile pic and not the ones in my gallery becuase of the whole friend block so I was able to get on and delete the 2/3 pics on there that she'd probalby hate the most. Although I wont' delete them all simply because then she'd know I deleted them. if I only delete a couple it won't do a damn thing.

5) I have my old high school on there - So? I dont' even live remotely close to it anymore, what does it matter?

6) I have her mentioned on there. - OMG...I put "my mother" on there. How in the ******** hell does that give any info about her. Does it give her name, her age, what she looks like, who she is, etc etc? No, not at all. Heck, I put her in my HEROS section...You'd think that'd make her feel good, not pissed off O.o *confused*

7) The fact that this goes against everything she's ever taught me growing up - Ever here of people wanting ot make their own decisions and do what they feel is okay? My mom may be a paranoid woman scared of every single litlte thing, but I'M NOT. Seriously. I didn't put a damn thing on there that woudl have caused me anymore trouble then just walking around normally.

My god, I feel like destroying something and breaking down crying all at once.

Why is it whenever something good finally happens (I'm to upset to even say what that good thing is) a bucnh of bad things come along right after?

(hugs tightly)

I can understand your mother being upset. My mom's the same way, she gets so paranoid about the internet, that someone is going to look me up and kidnap me. What they don't realize is that these kind of people contact you first, and try to meet with you, not go into your home and steal you away. How many cases have you heard of people coming to your home just because they looked you up?

Its exactly like when my parents found my website. My cousin looked me up because I left a comment on his website and sent the link to my parents. Needless to say...they were not happy about my profile...or what I had posted there. (Woo, try explaining the pictures I drew there. Not like I could hide it, they knew I drew it)

Drawing to my point. She's upset, but she'll get over it. Its not like she can really do anything about it. You're an adult now, and you can make your decisions now. She needs to respect that.

Trust me, I have been there done that. Only it wasn't about a profile but when I talked to Affy on the phone. She found out because I didn't keep it a secrete and when she asked who I was talking to she went schitzo on me. She made me feel like scum for talking to a friend. That surely Affy was some perved stalker that was going to hunt me down in the dark of the night and rape/kill me. Yep, this is Affy we are talking about. I don't know, we just don't talk about it at all. I think she like tried to erase it from her brain and I'm not going to bring it up. I've just decided not to call anyone on the internet till in a year or so when I'm living at my own place and will be paying for my phone bill (basicly she won't have any clue who I'm talking to). Then I just won't have to deal with the s**t at being chewed out for calling a friend. I just can't take the extra drama right now. rolleyes
