Plus I heard that the hero in that one looks ugly because of his lame-o shorts. I mean really, who wears shorts in the friggin past? That game is the death of the series I tell you. 3nodding

No way, the shorts broke off the notch. I will never touch Suikoden IV because of it. The third one I might think about but never the IV. Its useless to know what happened before. It didnt even have the save transfer for it. Thats what is so cool about Suikoden. Suikoden II is the best in the series and the world knows it.

actualy i truly think suikoden the original was a better game and though sui4 didnt tell you much it was like a backstory for much that happend in suikoden the original 3nodding

I have to stick up for Suikoden 4, though. I didn't notice the shorts at all.
Hero IV: I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear!
Each of the Suikodens have their good and bad points. You can only do a direct comparison if they are exactly the same, which they are not.
Suikoden 1, being the first of its kind, had no competition for comparison.
Suikoden 2 was a direct sequel to the first, so they are really the only two which can be critically compared. They kept the same battle system and mechanics, but were tweaked just a bit.
Suikoden 3 was completely different, as they decided to try out something new. A lot can happen over a 16 year span of time, so you have to expect them to make some changes. I have not finished it quite yet, but I still defend it. Yes, the tactical card battles were bad, and the pairing system was also bad, but you cannot blame them for trying something new! If everything was the same, then "good" and "bad" games wouldn't exist in the first place!
Suikoden 4 was another case of trial and error, trying to combine the 3D style of Suikoden 3 with concepts from Suikoden 1. If you think about it, it makes sense that you cannot transfer data from 1 to 4, as 4 takes place before 1. Future data can't be given to the past, since only a handfull of characters or less show up in the later games, though the uses of True Runes and the Blinking Rune. Even though they lowered the party to four characters, they tweaked the battle system enough so that having six characters was not neccessary at all. I admit, even I have trouble deciding who to keep in the party.
In all, it really is just an opinon, but it should still be met with neutrality!
