The fact that Flutie was let go by the Pats in the late 80's to make room for Marc Wilson is enough reason to ban Raymond Berry from Gillette Stadium for the rest of his life.
He was screwed over big time. He was by so many teams. The Pats, the Bears, the Bills (yeah, keep Rob Johnson over Doug - what year was that - 97 or 98 when Flutie took the team to the playoffs, but the Bills gave Johnson the meaningless start for the last game of the season where he did well against a scrub team....then they did the incomprehensible! They decide to go with Johnson for the playoffs! Of course, Johnson went something like 7 for 23 and the Bills lose. Served them right. I think that was Wade Phillips who coached them that year
But then there is some controversey over this. Heh maybe he'll be like the Ray Bourque of Colorado.

Doug Flutie is one of the most exciting, hard working and without a doubt most screwed over QB's to ever put the pads on.
As a Canadian who has followed and admired him since his CFL days I am absolutely thrilled with this news. Its seems like only yesterday that Phillips went with Rob Johnson over him in the Bills-Titans playoff game (music city miracle) because of ONE performance when Flutie was hurt..only to be sacked 5 times alllowing the Titans a chance to peform the miracle comeback play.
Then there was his days in San Diego where in season one where he turns around a joke of a team only to have his kicker miss 5 game winning or tying field goals and the team collapse down the stretch to once again cause a missed playoff opportunity.
The prospect of seeing him get a chance to Finally be a part of a incredible playoff team is just a thing of beauty.
He looked fantastic last season when he did get a chance to play. Anyone who does not think the man can still play should watch tape of his performance against KC during the final regular season game last year.. He showed that he can still make plays that NOBODY else can.. When he scrambled in for a touchdown I thought it was the perfect end to his NFL career. NOT because it he cant play but simlpy because building teams have to go with youth.
He is going to feel like a kid in a candy store with his hometown team who just happens to be the most talented team on the planet. This is just a class move by the Patriots and one that could really pay off for them should something terrrible happen.
This leads to my final point.. Most people on this board agree that the signing makes sense. Its smart to have one of the most veteran Qb's who will be incredibly motivated and able to help out Brady in a myriad of ways. A few seem to be worried that his cult like following will be screaming for him to start games. If tom brady's job after 3 superbowls is not safe then whose is. Even the biggest Flutie maniac on the planet will not be calling for him to start over Brady.. To even suggest that is insane. Just seeing him play with this team in preseason and hopefully on the sidelines actually getting his hands on the superbowl trophy will be satisfying enough. I truly would love to see him contribute during the season maybe even get to play the last game of season or something like that. But from this flutie maniacs just seeing him suit up in the colours of such a truly great team is the perfect way to end his career.
Here is hoping for ONE more superbowl and then a final year in the CFL and a 4th grey cup for Flutie. Nobody deserves it more.
