Gulnozzdun Veszinid’erd Dinin Myneld

Dinin watched Shayla smile, a strange look on his face, like he was remembering something he didn’t want to. He rubbed the inside of one of his wrists absently, trying to remove the old pain. When he was just a hatchling, his sparring partner had jammed the point of his blade into Dinin’s wrist and the wound had never healed right. Even decades later, it still ached from time to time. He smiled at Shayla to distract himself from the twinge.

“A commendable attitude, Shayla.”

He stood up abruptly; Liante was calling him.

“You look tired; I should let you rest.”

Shayla Mae Koryu

Shayla decided not to argue. She wasn't tired by any means....she was disappointed that they had to end their conversation then and there, though.

"I'll fall asleep eventually. You should go to her..."

Even though the sadness was still there, she smiled strongly through it. She wouldn't let her love for him break her down and make her weak.

Gulnozzdun Veszinid'erd Dinin Myneld

“I’ll have some wine sent up for you. We’ll make a wife out of you yet, Shayla. Pleasant dreams.”

Dinin got up, pressed a dry kiss to Shayla’s cheek and departed. He closed the door behind her and had a quiet word with the guards posted to her door. Confident that she wasn’t going anywhere, he whistled a merry little tune as he strolled back towards his cluster of rooms and his beloved.

Shayla Mae Koryu

Shayla watched him leave the room, and once the door was shut, the smile melted from her face. She lied back against the pillows and turned her head to watch out the window and get lost in thought once again. At least it was something to pass the time while she waited to have the conversations she so looked forward to with Dinin.

The young queen was so lost in thought, she didn't even notice when a servant came in to give her some wine. In the midst of her thoughts, a sudden pain shot through her body, and she blacked out.

[So, want to skip ahead to when shes able to get out of bed so Dinin can start training her to be his wife?]

Gulnozzdun Veszinid’erd Dinin Myneld

Three Weeks Later

Dinin sat on his balcony, sipping at a lovely spiced wine as he looked out over the mountains that framed and protected the castle. He attempted to ignore the sounds of his two escorting Xana sparing each other on the other end of the balcony; their grunts and gasps of pain didn’t quite mesh with the morning’s tranquility. He glanced over at the two red-haired beauties, and let the rebuttle die on his lips; he could never reprimand his Xana’s successfully. Instead, Dinin hide his smile in his glass as he took another gulp of his wine.

Shayla Mae Koryu

After sometime, Shayla was finally able to get back on her own two feet and walk around. She was still not completely healed, but she could walk around for awhile, even if on small walks around the gardens or the castle. It was still dangerous for her to transform, however. It was highly advised she wait a week and a half before transforming again.

The young queen walked over to the balcony where her betrothed was, a light flowing gown that went past her feet billowed gently as she walked, along with her flaming waist length locks that hung down in waves.

"Its a beautiful view from here....I've always admired it, since I was a child."

She smiled with a softness when she met his eyes.

"It's nice to be out of bed again. I've missed being on my own two feet, almost forgot they even existed."

Gulnozzdun Veszinid’erd Dinin Myneld

Dinin returned Shayla’s smile politely.

“You do have a very handsome kingdom, Shayla. I shall miss it when we depart.”

He looked past her to the two dueling Xana’s, speaking a sharp word of command his in mother tongue. They broke apart, sketched two bows, and departing, closing the glass doors of the balcony behind them. Besides one or two servants who were floating around (who didn’t really count anyway) the two were effectively alone.

“Does it hurt any? To be up, I mean; I can have Liante called.”

Inwardly, Dinin winced; he doubted that Shayla would want Liante’s help if she was drowning and Linate was the only person left in the world. He had consigned himself that his wife and his mistress would dislike each other, but somehow he hadn’t calculated that the hate would be so strong.

Shayla Mae Koryu

Shayla fell silent for a moment, but then eventually answered him.

"No, it doesn't hurt too terribly much, I'll manage."

The only part of her that she could recall hurting at the moment was the dull ache of her heart when he mentioned his mistress's name so affectionately. She chose to ignore it and smile through the pain.

"I'll be fine, I promise. I'm strong enough to handle it, I'm not as weak as I once was."

Shayla walked up next to him and stood there, drinking in the sights set out before them. The setting sun and the beautiful yellows and oranges and reds that played off of one another as the sun disappeared behind the hills.
Even if Dinin didn't love her as much as she loved him, she was still happy that he was happy with his life with Liante. She felt that it was better that way, then being completely miserable with her.

Gulnozzdun Veszinid’erd Dinin Myneld

Dinin admired Shayla’s profile, taking in some pleasure at the sight as well as the feeling of pride; in his mind, he’d helped to “change” Shayla, to make her stronger. Impulsively, he slipped his arm through Shayla’s and turned back to the sunset; he felt oddly lighthearted.

“When you get better, I want to spar you again. And this time, with no poisoned blades!”

He scratched at his cheek with his free hand and longed to shift and take a nice, extensive flight in the night. Maybe out into the Deep Sands again. To distract himself, he turned again to Shayla.

“When we’re married, are you going to bequeath your kingdom to a steward and live with the dragons, or will you remain here?”

Shayla Mae Koryu

Shayla smiled slightly.

"It's funny you should mention that, because I've been thinking about that a lot. If its alright with you, I should like to bequeath my kingdom to a steward and live with the dragons. I feel like in order to help rule, or be the wife of the ruler of the dragons, I need to live among them myself, and get accustomed to how you live. It may be a stretch from what I'm used to, but I'm up for a challenge. I've survived this long....but now that I'm a halfling, I should like a change of pace from what I'm used to."

She winced slightly when she said 'halfing', but she had finally come to terms with what she was. Whether or not Dinin hated her because of it was not her issue. Even if deep down, she hoped that he would come to love her one day, she wasn't banking on it to happen any time soon.

"Hmm...yes. That would be nice. I should like to spar again...I've missed it, actually. I've also missed transforming and flying as well...."

Gulnozzdun Veszinid'erd Dinin Myneld

Dinin found himself pleasantly surprised with Shayla's decision. That was very...adult. I do believe she is growing up. Liante will be so pleased. He smiled, imaging just how his favorite concubine might react. It was not a happy sight.

"It'll be different all right. Here they fawn over your every step. Back home, you'd be lucky to get the time of day."

He shrugged. Racism was a large part of the Dragonlord's Culture. He couldn't imagine it ever not being there.

"Hurry up and heal, so we can fly together."

Dinin's smile was bright.

Shayla Mae Koryu

Shayla shrugged.

"Once upon a time, I would've cared what they said about me. You know who I really am...the kind of person I am, and who I have become and if you accept me enough to even show the slightest hint of kindness to me, thats all I really care about. Besides..."

She smiled at him,

"The fact you are even willing to train me shows me that you are at least a little bit concerned for my well-being. If a little bit is all I get....I'm okay with that. I'm content being invisible to the others. I can stand my ground...Like I said....I'm not who I once was. Racism is small compared to the things I have been through...recently and otherwise."

Gulnozzdun Veszinid’erd Dinin Myneld

The last part of Shayla’s sentence intrigued Dinin.

“’Otherwise?’ What have you been through previously? I mean, before I met you.”

He laughed lightly.

“It seems like your life has just been stumbling from one catastrophe to another since you’ve met me. It appears that I am foul luck.”

Shayla Mae Koryu

Shayla sighed.

"Losing my family in the fire at our vacation home...losing my first love to a fire when I was younger.....I had a couple things happen to me. It wasn't all miserable with you, nor foul luck. If at all, it was me who couldn't keep up, which is why unfortunate things kept happening and I let myself get too attached too fast."

She smiled slightly,

"I still love you, yes....but I wont try to force you to be with me. All I want is for you to be happy...even if Liante is the one you wish to be happy with. If I see you smile, that would satisfy me enough...oh, and a friendship."

Gulnozzdun Veszinid’erd Dinin Myneld

Dinin laughed lightly at the irony that was Shayla’s early life.

“For a dragon, you have terrible luck with fire. I wonder why? Is it possible that you started the fires yourself? Hatchlings have trouble controlling their breath weapons.”

He shrugged. Unpleasant thoughts had to be considered and subsequently dismissed, or else you were denying the reality of things. He smiled gently.

“I can be friends with you, that I can do. Shall I call for your secret lover? Have him attend to you?”

He raised an eyebrow at Shayla. She still refused to tell him just who was this mystery lover of hers and it was driving Dinin crazy.
