Khenu was sitting on the floor in his room a pair of small pliers in one hand, Bastet's half melted sai in the other. He bit his lip and squinted at the sai as he worked, reshaping the now warm metal back to its original shape. He owed it to her.
He stopped and picked up Bastet's other sai which he had borrowed from her room for comparison. Hopefully she wouldn't be angry with him. squinting at that he put it back down and resumed work on the other. Right down to the very modifications that Bastet herself had made to the sai.
He worked with the ease of an expert although still young. It was true he could make anything he wanted with an expert touch as well. When you had so much time alone like Khenu had had, it was easy to develop his skills.
Blowing on the now perfect sai he smiled at how good it looked. Looked like it had never been melted in the first place. He took to rubbing it with a cloth he had gotten from the kitchen. Shining up the metal. He shined the other as well then wrapped both in the cloth and stood tucking the package under his arm.
Khenu poked his head out of his room checking the hallways for any signs of life. The click of claws on hard surface caught his attention and he smiled. It had to be Bastet, if not then it was Eclipse and he seemed to know where Bastet always was. He left his room, pulling his door shut and started down the hall at a jog. "Bastet!"

She paused to look towards the stairs to the vaults. Through the dim evening dusk she could make out the stairs. "Is Khai...?" She trailed off, not knowing whether he was there are not. Aura said something about killing him soon. "He would have died from lack of food anyway."
Bastet heard the call down the hallway and turned to see Khenu jogging up to her. "Hello, my little lightning rod." Upon further inspection, she noticed that he carried a package under his arm and he looked wide awake and still healed. "So, at least you do not need to be healed. I was wondering if I would find you like that again. What are you up to?"

Khenu came to a skidding stop in front of her and smiled happily up at her with a lop sided grin. "Yeah I'm feeling a lot better." He took the cloth package in both hands and held it up to the cat girl. "This is for you Bastet. And sorry for going in your room without your permission earlier today. I swear I didn't touch anything else. Cross my heart and hope to die."

Raising one eyebrow at him and giving him her questioning curious look, she took the package and opened it. When she saw both of her sai polished and perfect, she smiled exposing her fangs, and her eyes lit up at the sweet gesture.
Her tail had gone to her side to feel that her one sai was gone. "I thought I was missing something, but I could not place it. You did not have to do it, eventually I would have gotten off of my lazy butt and fixed it, though you are probably better at it anyway." She put her sai at their place on her belt and put her arm around his shoulder, pulling him forward. "Thanks Key Key."

Khenu smiled and then hugged Bastet. He laughed energetically. "You're welcome Bastet. It was no trouble anyway. I felt bad about ruining your sai and I wanted to fix it for you. Besides...I was bored and needed something to do. So it works."
He pulled away from her and took hold of her hand tugging at her. "Come on. Let's get some chow, I'm starving!"

She pulled back giving him trouble as the little guy tried to pull her along. "But, but I do not feel like cooking!" she whined in a childish voice.
Then she grinned and ran ahead, pulling him along with her to the kitchen. Near the entrance to it she stopped and sniffed some. "Another new person? No, not a person." Then she pulled him along some more until she got to the bar and poured herself some whiskey for a strong drink to start off with. "So, if you have not needed to be healed, does that mean that you have not been practicing controling your powers? Or that you are just so good that you have not been hurt?" She looked at him inquiringly, "It is alright if you have not practiced, it has been rather lazy around here lately, I am just curious as always."

Smiling rather admittedly he raised a hand to the back of his head scratching at his hair. "I haven't been practicing. To be honest I haven't even been able to even spark lately." He shrugged. "I don't know if that's a good thing or not."
Khenu squinted at the bottle that Bastet had poured her drink from taking the bottle in his hands and looking in it. Taking a sniff he scrunched up his nose and set the bottle back on the counter. How did adults like that stuff.
Attention span dwindling he made his way to the fridge which he yanked open and stared sorting through the items in it. "No one said we had to cook. Food is food."

"Yes, but good food generally comes from cooking. I think until you can control it, that that would be a good thing by the way." She sipped at her drink and let is slide down her throat, giving her a contented sleepy feeling even though she had just woken up. Such is a cat, always looking for a nap.
Noting his response to the smell of the liquid, she inquired, "What is wrong? Are you not used to alcohol?"

Coming up from out of the fridge chewing on a carrot Khenu shook his head. "Nope. I was a sheltered child before I got my powers. My mother wouldn't' let me near the stuff. Every time I got curious and got too close I was scolded."
He poked his head back into the fridge this time coming back out with a stalk of celery being chewed on now seeing as the carrot was long gone. "Want something from here Bastet?"

"No thanks, I will eventually fix something." She scanned about the bar at the wide range of alcohol, and looked specifically for something light. Pulling out a light wine that was merely twenty-four proof, she poured very little into a glass and pushed it to the other end of the bar top.
"Well, I do not believe sheltered lives are fun, so would you like to try this? I got something light for you. Where did you meet the parrot anyway? If you had a sheltered life, then you most likely could not go near strangers." Refilling her own glass with more whiskey, she watched him.

Of course he would walk over and inspect the offered glass as he chewed on his celery. He was a ten year old boy. That's what he did. That and ask questions.
He reached up and grabbed the glass then held it so that he was looking at the liquid inside as he went about answering the questions asked. "That too was after I got my powers and after my mother died. This guy came to the village one day and he had this bright colored bird with him. he said it was called a parrot. He called it Damn Bird, said it was his name."
Khenu swirled the contents of the glass squinting an eyes at it as he shoved the last bit of celery into his mouth chewing and swallowing before continuing his story. "Well he stayed in the village and so did Damn Bird. I hung around him because he would tell these wild stories, and because Damn Bird could talk just as easily as we do."
Sniffing the glass once he lifted it to his mouth and took a gulp. he squinted one eye and then relaxed and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. "That's not too bad actually." That said down went the rest of the glass.

Bastet smiled at the boy, "Damn bird? That is a very creative name. He should be called foul bird. If he was such a damn bird then why was he still with the old man?" Then slightly too curious for her own good, she asked, "What exactly happened to your mother? If you do not mind me asking." She had an idea since him getting powers seemed to coincide with his mother dying, but she did not want to jump to conclusions.
She took his glass and found something that was fifty proof, poured a sip of that into his glass and slid it back to him. She watched his face carefully to determine his reaction to that and her question.

"Well that's what he always yelled at it to get it to shut up. He yelled at it a lot but I think he loved it. He always fed it treats and didn't throw anything at it." He took the glass offered him again. Well the grown ups seemed to talk all smart when they drank, maybe this was why. He took it all in one gulp kind of regretting it as his eyes closed and his shoulders tensed up. Khenu put the glass down almost as if it had burned his hand and shook his head. "Whoa..."
Khenu gave a cough and beat a fist to his chest to get out another. That one was different. Wiping his mouth on the back of his hand again he looked up to Bastet. "She got sick one winter and died from her fever. She didn't even tell me goodbye first." Khenu leaned against the counter back on his elbows and showed Bastet not a very good forced smile. "I suppose it didn't matter really. She didn't love me anymore anyway."

Bastet laughed at his response to the drink, "Sorry, that one was stronger." She gulped down her own drink as he told her some of his past. She did not need empath skills to know that he was not happy. Grateful that it was not what she was expecting, yet not liking the answer she got, she probed a little more. "How could someone not love you? You are too sweet, and cute, and give silly lopsided grins." She walked to the other side of the bar to stand beside him. Leaning against it, she looked down at him, her eyes mellowing out and becoming small.
"Did she not understand you? And what about your dad?"

"She understood me alright. Understood that I was a freak. That's what everyone thought. I used to look different Bastet. I used to be blonde with green eyes. Then...there was this incident...because of me and...my father got killed, and I got my powers. My mother never looked at me the same after I changed or after I killed my father. " He looked back up to her giving another smile to mask what he didn't want to show.
