But yet (Those two words mean the same thing, don't start stuff like I just did,) Jedi are in a way space versions of ninja. While they've mostly abanodnned the not being seen part in exchange for not being rememberred they are still very agile, versatile, and often manuever about on surfaces others cannot.

Indeed, because they're actions are guided by the force. But Jedi are keepers of the peace and only fight as a last resort, I don't know much about ninjas, but from what I've seen most are very aggressive and quick to fight.

Peace Is A Lie. There Is Only Passion. Through Passion, I Gain Strength. Through Strength, I Gain Power. Through Power, I Gain Victory. Through Victory, My Chains Are Broken. The Force Shall Free Me. I Command The Force.

Right, since ninja are all about silent murder and subterfuge and the Jedi are the magic/religious peace-keepers of a galaxy far away...
I can see how those would be easily confused... SARCASM! ninja

Phil: Well, those lightsabers can get quite loud but I guess that's just the nature of futuristic stuff. Thad: The early ninja* mainly cultivated techniques for exotic weapon use (lightsabers would certainly not be used by any ole shmuck,) and were more or less confined to their little hidden monasteries. As the gov't didn't like the whole "Ya, we're some place in your country but we aren't paying taxes" thing they often tried to purge these groups. The existance of ninja quickly became quite well known and fighting between ninjas and samurai was common. The techniques of these ninja mainly consisted of a swift parry/disarm followed by some sort of stabbity abdominal attack; the samurai were well trained against opponents with swords but some nut moving around in strange patterns with a pair of curvy knives or a ball and chain wasn't really something they had prepared for. After awhile the ninja had gained a reputation for all sorts of amazing abilities like silently walking on any surface (stuff made out of reeds is pretty hard to be silent upon,) a sort of telepathy, and superb stealth.
This marks the type of ninja that is most popular but their history goes on.
At some point an emperor realized that he could not only get rid of the constant ninja threat (to himself) by apealing to their sense of honor. He offered the ninjas jobs as palace guards and promised that they would become a noble warrior (bushi) class with benefits much like the samurai. ... and so they became palace guards. Rather than lie in wait fully concealed they changed their approach to something more like "I'm right in front of you but you don't really see me." Their standard garb was now peasant clothes, a straw hat like the very one I wear upon my head (minus the flowers and goat idol,) and probably some gardening tool. Anyone who tried to barge into the palace unexpected and with obvious intentions would suddenly be attacked from all sides by peasants with giant gardener shears and such before they were even close to the emperor.
After this came the modernization of Japan and most of the ninja didn't think these skills would be necessary in the new world so they didn't train their children.
So, I think it would completely reasonable if the early Jedi kept themselves mostly secluded to their temples and whatnot, primarily trying to help their pupils attain enlightenment (because enlightenned people have no desire for the pursuit of power/ the dark side but have plenty of it themselves.)
