Garrat nodded. "It is quite difficult. Prince Nathaniel seems to be in denial," he said and then he pulled out the letter. "I do need help with this, but how did the princess know about it? And how could you have contacted her?" If he remembered correctly, Nathaniel had said he saw his sister's body or something, and that was late last night. Perhaps he had been mistaken?

Rosa flailed her hands. " I know just as much about what's going as you do.. " she spoke in her defense. She grew quiet and looked out and up to Nathaniel's now bared window. She bit her lip," Sir Garrat... If I may... Do you still wish to be the prince's body guard?" She asked with a concerned look on her face. " I mean... Prince Nathaniel will be near 20 years of age soon... He won't need you forever.. " she muttered. " surely you won't be there when his sweet black, raven hair turns gray... Well, if he lives that long" she muttered that last part.

Garrat chuckled as if he had been told a joke. "How could I not wish to be his bodyguard? Or maybe I've become his sitter. He gets into so much trouble I can't leave him alone," he declared, and then thought on Rosa's last few words. "I plan to stay by him until the end of his days." '20 years' and 'raven' reminded him of the letter, which he read quickly. "Rosa, could you help me decipher the letter? Is it threatening Nathaniel?"

Rosa looked over and the little letter in Garrat's possession. She frowned and gasped a little. "I think it is... But, Nathaniel is only 18... isn't he.. or is he 19... I forget. But who would would threaten his life?" she asked worriedly. " This letter seems almost like a warning.... " she glanced up at Garrat. " Maybe its just someone's idea of a cruel joke..." she muttered, " Have you told him?".

"He's still 18, so there is a bit of time," Garrat answered the first question. "I only received this letter this morning. What does the writer want with him? As he is now, he couldn't hurt a fly." He was rather irked now. Who was the 'her' that the letter referred to? Manuerva? Rosa? The Queen...?

Rosa fiddled with her hair. "Well, uhh..... " she seemed to remembering something important. "Garrat, ... there's something I need to tell you..." she whispered and went to his door to shut. "For years now, Manureva and I had snuck out of the castle to go to the black market. We'd always be met by this old woman. One day, Manureva followed the woman.. and then.. " she stopped talking for a moment. Like an almost nervous child being caught in the act of a doing something terrible. "She... well, we went in and she gave the princess a book... an old spell book that told her how to make poisons.... I don't know if that would help you... I could take you to the place... but I'm scared." she looked down and quietly folded her hands.
Upstairs, Nathaniel watched from his window as Garrat moved. He kept watching until he couldn't see Garrat anymore. His little kitten purred on his bed and Nathan turned to his book shelf and took a book out and sat beside Basette. He pet his kitten and noticed a tiny black spot squirming on her. Picking it up, he squished the little dot and assumed it was a bug. He sneezed and shivered in the cold room. Another storm was coming. He cuddled under some blankets and tried to keep warm.

So the rumors had been true, and now Garrat had a chance to investigate without putting Nathaniel in danger. "Take me to this woman. I have too many questions needing answers," he decided after only a moment of thought. "Did the old woman say anything of note to you when you'd meet her? Did she do anything? Is there any pattern to your encounters?"

Rosa pulled back and turned her back to Garrat. " She didn't really pay attention to me... But.." She pulled something out of her purse. A small blue vial and gave it to the knight. "A few month ago, when I asked her to help me make you , well... She gave me that... It works and I tried to get you to drink once... But of course you stayed by Nathaniel's side... She said it was a simple love potion..." She leaned into the soldier and clasped his hands," but Garrat, I'm scared. She may as well have been a witch and she'll curse anyone that could threaten!" she cried.

Garrat was unfazed. "She's potentially dangerous if left alone. Someone has to do something, and it may as well be me," he declared. "Take me to her." He pulled away from her, as the contact was becoming rather uncomfortable. "By the way, I do not appreciate you trying to make me fall in love with you. It'd be more horrible for you than it would be for me."

The young Rosa gasped a bit as he pulled away. "I know now that I shouldn't use such magic against you. It's wrong... And with everything happening here, I'm sure it must be nerve wracking..." She said diligently and marched to her valiant white horse. "I'll show you the way.. But I dare not stay long... " a quiet whisper of a sigh escaped her lips, " I wish you'd learn to just accept me...." Her mutter was low and possibly just too quiet to hear.
Rosa waited for Garrat to mount his horse or ride with her.. Either way they'd get there.. " Garrat? " she called suddenly," what do you mean 'it'd be more horrible for me'?" She asked with a confused expression.

Garrat mounted his own horse. "If you tried to use the potion to make me love you, would it really be love? It would take away my free will, and then would it really be me that you have? Wouldn't it be horrible, knowing that any affection I might have from the potion was only there because I'm no longer free?" he said after a bit of thinking. "I may resist you many times, but I still have some degree of care for you. I know of the pain of unrequited love, but I assure you that getting it by force is much worse."

Garrat's convincing statement made Rosa's lip quiver some but she ended up biting her lip and moving on from the situation. Clicking with her tongue, her horse started and eventually made it into a gallop. She would lead him to farthest point of kingdom until the pleasant village homes turned into packed broken into and some slightly burned huts. Rosa and her white horse didn't belong there.
By the time they'd arrive, the sun would already be over the horizon. She stopped in a empty street before an old house made of wood. It was almost so hard to see because of the woods surrounding it. The only indicator that showed it was a house was a stack of smoke coming from its chimney.

This must be the place, Garrat thought to himself as he dismounted his horse. He would have to be careful when dealing with this witch, lest he be turned into a frog. That would be most unfortunate.
Was the risk worth the answers? If Garrat could find out what happened to Joseph and Manuerva, what if he wished he didn't? For all he knew, the witch would do something to him to ensure he stayed quiet. Perhaps this was all just a foolish quest that he was not ready for.
Nonetheless, he was already here. "Do you have any advice?" he asked Rosa, who he supposed was ready to leave if given the chance.

The woman before him bit her lip. She shook her head, as if unable to tell him any useful advice. Instead, when Garrat would walk forward she slowly would just keep close behind him. Inside, however, he'd be sure to get a dreadful surprise.
None other than the missing Princess herself would be standing there! Dressed in black and milling over a cauldron. Of course... Garrat would have to walk inside. [ Sorry for the late post ! I hope you had a fun Holiday =3~ PS: I also realize I'm throwing this story all over the place ^^]

(It's fine, really. I can comprehend it, mostly) Fearlessly, or perhaps foolishly, Garrat entered the hut and was shocked at who he saw was inside. "Princess Manuerva?!" Her menacing appearance suggested to the knight that he should probably run while he still had the chance, but curiosity kept him still. Well, they did say curiosity killed the cat...
