BLLAAAAAAAARRRRRGEH HOLY HELL!
It's been over a MONTH since I've been to ANY concert, Beatle-oriented or otherwise and I seriously think I'm experiencing withdrawal symptoms. I think I have a problem, you guys....AA doesn't treat Beatlemania, do they?
Anyway, relief will come on Sunday in the form of a Beatles/John Lennon tribute act! The regular crowd will be going and making asses of ourselves, and we'll take video, audio, pictures, whatever y'all want. That's right. I'm so excited about this, I'm planning on covering my A/V bases and sharing the experience with all of you. This may not work out how I'm planning it since most of my A/V equipment is kinda....retarded. But I'll do my best to bring the Beatley love to the masses! 3nodding

Hell, for me it's been a year and a half! gonk You didn't go to the Back Beat show? Suuuuck! Eh, if it makes you feel any better, I didn't end up going to the Lennon tribute show. Stupid winter being all.... snowy. The weather conditions in the area the concert was in were supposed to be blizzard-like and my mom pretty much told me that if I went, she wouldn't let me back in the house. So I chose to sit this one out. The rest of the Beatle friends made it up and back fine, and I guess the band was stoked they traveled so far. J said that Paul-guy was freakin' spectacular and John guy was (as is to be expected) an outrageous smart a**. I NEED to see them, but they play like everywhere. On the plus side, it's a few very short months until Abbey Road on the River! I've actually re-thought my plan of going for the whole week and figured it's better to not throw away a quarter's worth of college on a week's worth of Beatles, so it's the weekend for me, too. And it'll be the best ******** weekend of our lives!

Wow, color. You've had some awesome tribute band experiences! xd
I went with my mom, sister, and best friend and saw the original cast of Beatlemania in October, only they're touring as Classical Mystery Tour. The first half of the program felt like a warmup, with the band getting a feel of the audience and such, hence, they kind of sounded...meh with the earlier music. And when it comes to speaking with the accents, they're...meh again. But in the second half, they did the later music and IT ROCKED SO MUCH. Highlights of that set were While My Guitar Gently Weeps, A Day In The Life, and the Long and Winding Road. Also, they were performing in a concert hall with the symphony that usually uses the theater, so they got to do some numbers you need a band for, like Eleanor Rigby. They also cheated and did Live and Let Die and Imagine, but it was ok, since they were AMAZING at them. Afterwards, Lindsey and I ran out into the lobby and got their autographs(and the conductor of the symphony, who ran out on stage and danced for Twist and Shout. xd ) and we got the usual "WOW! You guys are pretty young Beatles fans!" which is pretty fun to get. mrgreen And I've seen another tribute band called 1964: The Tribute three times. I posted my story of the first two concerts with them in one of The Beatles guilds, so I think I'll go find that and post it, since I'm way too lazy to type it back up.(Phanta re-typed Eight Days a Week I see, but she's just cooler then I am I guess.) mrgreen And then I'll just add the third experience to that.
EDIT: Foooound it! I'm going to edit it a bit though. I must have typed this right after the concert(s) since I sound like a total spazz. WALL OF TEXT ALERT.
I first saw 1964: The Tribute in July of '06. I went with my parents, my sister, and Lindsey, since she's my best friend and as big a Beatles fan as me. xd I was kind of apprehensive about going, since I didn't know what to expect and I didn't want it to suck. My parents had already seen them, and my mom assured me I would like it, so there I was. I was still skeptical and saying "Eh, what if they suck? Why are we here?" Lindsey said "Let's just go out there, sing our heads off, and have a good time no matter what." It was outdoors in this really cool outdoor theater , so there was no reserved seating, just a bunch of plastic tables and chairs for people to sit and eat at and a big cement area up in front of the stage. The two of us naturally cruised up to the front of the stage. Their opening was a band called..I think The British Invasion, but not YOUR British Invasion color. This is just a regular band who do songs by other British invasion bands..and sadly, they were awful. Then, a DJ from the local classic rock radio station did a VERY LOOOONG introduction, which had people yelling "Come on already! Just start!" The band finally came out and went right into I Want to Hold Your Hand, and I realized that this wasn't going to be awful because THEY ROCKED. They weren't carbon-copies in looks(No one is) but they still looked pretty similar. John and Ringo looked the best, I think. George looked okay, but a little bit old, and Paul was fine except he needed a bit of a face lift and had HUGE blue eyes, as opposed to the real Paul's brown ones. They sounded AWESOME and were great on mannerisms and accents too. The two of us started singing along and dancing like crazy people, as were the others around us. But then awesome things started happening. Lindsey and I were wearing our John Lennon-look-alike hats and the fake John Lennon said "I'd like to point out the Lennon sisters in the audience this evening" and we were like "HOLY *dies in happiness*" and the people around us started yelling and applauding us...but most of them were drunk, so it wasn't REALLY us. blaugh Then, at the end of the first act, he reached down into the audience and handed the two of us HIS GUITAR PICKS. Other people were trying to grab at them, but he reached over them and directly handed them to us. In the second act, he took Lindsey's hat and wore it for a couple of the songs. And fake Paul kept smiling and winking at us(Which was slightly creepy..but fake John did it too) and fake George gave us a huge smile when we started cheering during one of his guitar solos. At the end of the first act, Ringo blew a couple of kisses at the audience, so we started blowing kisses back at him. He then directed a few blown kisses at us. . So I guess we can join the Tribute Bands Hit On Us Club. xd
-----Fast forward. February '07. Lindsey, her boyfriend(who kind of likes The Beatles), and I went to this one. It was held in a movie theater, where their main screening area also has a stage hidden behind the movie screen. Somewhat small venue, but it was nice. Their opening act was...a psychic. A comedian psychic. The only problem with 1964 concerts is that they always get stuck with really weird and/or bad opening acts...the psychic wasn't great, but he was ok...and better then British Invasion.(Again, not yours. xd ) We were in the front far right for this concert, but that turned out to be great place to sit for sound. I have to say, the sound quality was better for the indoor concert then it had been at the outdoor. The only problem was the dead audience. They were all sitting there like statues, with only about half somewhat singing along, and only got up when "John" told them too for Twist and Shout. rolleyes Lindsey and I sang along with all our might the whole time, of course. wink At the end of the concert, people were running up in front of the stage to snap pictures. Lindsey and I moved halfway up to the stage and she was taking pictures of them. Then her boyfriend pushed us up right in front of fake John who recognized us and waved and yelled "HI!", so we of course waved and yelled back and we were pretty happy he remembered us.
----July '07. Great outdoor concert again...except for bad British Invasion opening again. xp "John" said on stage "I'd like to give a shout-out to the Lennon Sisters here." Like the previous year, the mostly-drunk audience roared and applauded. Then "John" said "You guys were here last year, right?" And we called back "Yeah!" and he said "So was I! Remember me?" xd And then the band dedicated "If I Fell" to us. Between acts, Lindsey, myself, and our friend Thomas(also a huge Beatlemaniac) met and got pictures with fake John(who I found out is really named Mark...and he we told him our names too.) and George, which was awesome. It was really weird hearing them speak in their regular VERY AMERICAN voices though. xd I'm going to have to upload the pictures with them at some point. I have some of them performing too. After the concert, my mom went up to Mark and half-jokingly said "You should tell this girl to stop taking my Beatles albums" and he just smiled and said "Eh, there are worse things she could steal. *smile at me*."
FIN. Fun times with fake Beatles. xd And then I see them again in February. (They hit around my general area every February and July, but I'm guessing you picked up on that. smile ) I want to see other tribute bands too. I'll just have to keep a sharp eye out for some around my general area. 3nodding ...or stalk some. ninja xd
I think my only problem is I promise myself before hand that if they're great, I won't spazz out and fawn over them because they aren't the actual Beatles....but I end up doing it anyway. The concerts are fun, but I'm like you Color. I hope they don't think I'm stupid for going nuts over them and think I'm some kind of wannabe groupie who's trying to compromise because I wasn't there to go bonkers over the real band.
Eh, I guess I should just have fun and not worry about it. *shrugs*

Not a big deal at all. ^_^ Your wall of text was fascinating.
I'm uber jealous you got to see 1964, by the way. What day in February are you going to see them? Cause there's a CHANCE I may be seeing them on February 2nd. And I'm pretty stoked about it, especially after your stories. 3nodding

I just got back from a Rain concert in St. Louis!
Let's just say I had to change my pants/take a shower immediately once I got home. I also named my heir in Beatledom. razz
