I'm messing around with it right now. Just for fun.

Hiragana - Basic Japanese writing. It's the way you write native words. Covers all Japanese syllables.

Katakana - The way you write foreign words. Covers all Japanese syllables. Basically Hiragana with different symbols.

Kanji - While a lot of this is taken from Chinese, there are many differences. For the Kanji that are borrowed from Chinese, there are two pronunciations: the Chinese pronunciation (essentially the original pronunciation) and a different Japanese pronunciation. I believe that a lot of Kanji borrowed from Chinese is slightly changed in order to accomodate for differences in writing style. If I remember correctly, there is also quite a number of Kanji that are essentially native to Japan.

Wow thanks! Always wanted to learn japanese never had the resources though, but now I can start. Going to try the RPG first. I already did the one with flipping cards and popular expressions, worked wonderfully, easy for me to memorize that way.
