Eiralis ran her fingers through her hair, looking around, "I can use a sword with some skill, not much. But I can reinforce it with magic to make it more potent an attack. Why?"

She shifted form while saying, "I suspect it's one of those demon-things. The stronger of us should go in front, and the other attack from behind." Obviously by now, the former was Faera.
It appeared to move out from having hidden behind one of the trees ahead of them. It looked like a long, black, tattered and hole-filled cloak with no legs from the bottom, and a hard white mask for the head. The mask had eye holes in it, and a dark spot that represented a mouth, all of which appeared to be smiling gleefully. The cloak's sleeves were filled by what appeared to be a pair of long-poled scythes; however, the "poles" were as flexible as chain-rope. It swung both of them at Faera, as she had run toward it as soon as seeing it.
Faera dodged both scythe blades and ran straight to the middle of the creature, and started trying to hit whatever was behind the cloak with her claws. The trouble was, it seemed there wasn't anything behind the cloak, it just acted as if she'd been hitting an empty cloak.

Eiralis had been behind Faera but now, she didn't have much of a choice...She tried to set the thing's cloak on fire as the thing itself appeared empty. She had turned her attention to one spot at the left of the creature that Faera seemed farthest from, trying not to accidentally set her on fire as well if it succeeded.

The entire cloak blazed, and there was a noise like a man screaming, crying out in pain and anguish. Then the fire died, and the cloak merely looked even more tattered. The face on the mask actually changed for a few seconds--from one of joy to one of sadness and pain. Like if one saw a pair of masks for "comedy" and "tragedy", it had shifted from the former to the latter and then back again*.The werewolf grabbed the scythe on her right--or rather, the arm-chain holding it--and pulled hard. It came out with a noise like flesh being torn apart, and the scythe fell to the ground. She jumped back, and over toward the other end, trying to prepare to do the same to the other side. Then the arm that had lost the scythe suddenly grew another one in a half-second, and the severed scythe suddenly rose up and started slicing at her as well. "Just one thing left--cut the mask!!" she cried, while trying to dodge all three of the scythes. She couldn't do anything herself unless it was somehow distracted, since the combination of all three scythes put the back of any one out of her reach.((*I'm talking about This sort of thing)) ((Also, your character's "levitation" powers can (and probably should) be used on the severed scythe to cut the mask. That's what's easiest, anyway.))

Eiralis placed a hand over her mouth but, spotting the severed scythe, she had an idea she could only hope would work. She seized control of the severed scythe, not an easy feat as it struggled against her with a will of its own. She did, however, manage to possess it and swung it at the creature's mask, her aim slightly skewed by the still-struggling scythe but hopefully it would be good enough t merely slash a whole in the thing.

The scythe cut its mask across a diagonal into two pieces, and suddenly the whole thing fell apart. Its cloak fell to the ground, and the severed scythe appeared to dissipate into sand; the two still attached fell to the ground with the cloak. The two pieces of the mask fell to the ground with a brief clatter, like some pieces of hollow wood.
"...Is it over?" asked Faera, the answer to which seemed to be the cloak getting blown up into a tree by the wind. She turned toward Eiralis, shifting back, and smiled, saying, "How did you do that?"

Eiralis watched in fascination, walking over to the mask to pick up a piece of it and turn it over in her hands slowly. She looked up again with her answer, "I can sort of move stuff with my mind, you know, levitation? Not big stuff, big stuff gives me too much of a headache but...little things..."

"Well, thanks," she said. "The reason I knew what it was is because my old pack was attacked by a monster once, it smelled just like a recently dead human. That one was similar, but it smelled more like a dead elf..."

Eiralis wrinkled her nose, "There's a difference in the two smells?"

"Yes, just as there's a difference between the smells of living humans and elves. And between each two individuals of even the same race. There isn't much of anything that smells exactly like something else."

Eiralis was quite surprised, "I thought humans and elves were quite similar," but she paused and grinned, "of course, everyone knows elves probably smell nicer," she laughed.

"As far as good and bad smells go, things only stink when there's something wrong with them. Like if someone hasn't taken a bath in awhile or has some treacherous disease, their smell gives it away and people avoid them to prevent infection. ...Hm?" A Faded elf seemed to simply fade into existence, almost a flicker 'on'. He looked around without speaking, and then shrugged and floated up in the air, into the sky, with a strange but peaceful look on his face. "...What was that? They usually can't fly unless they could physically, I've seen one try before...Er, I mean..."

Eiralis smiled at the faded elf, "A faded...you've seen one before...?"

"Er, well.." she started, trying to discern whether the other disliked this, and finding little dislike in her expression, continued. "Yes, I was...I mean, I...we were...hm..." Finding difficulty expressing that sentence she continued to the next one, hopeful that the former's meaning could be determined by context clues in the latter. "We talked often, he was nice, but the others in my pack didn't like him..."

Eiralis warmed considerably, "My family doesn't like them either but I enjoy their personalities usually. I spent a lot of time around them, used to, they're the only ones I've found who will talk about things like death and the meaning of life with me. They may not be any social boosters but they are pleasing. I don't see my friend, I should be heading back, care to come?"
