Hi, I'm Sean, I'm a type 1 diabetic and I'm 13 and a half at the moment. I was diagnosed with type 1 on 8-7-08 with 408 BS (blood sugar). My keytones were heavy too so I had to spend a week in the hospital sad

Hello, my name is Carolyn, but most Gaians just call me Granny. I will be 56 years old in a few days. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about three years ago. I started taking 1000 mgs of metformin and now I take that and 15 units of Lantus. I am also medicated for thyroid problems, high blood pressure, low triglyserides, high cholesterol, and severe depression. I'm always tired, drink a lot of water, and have a constant craving for cheesecake. Wahhhhhh! I read all of your intro posts and I now feel like I'm not alone in the world. I can see, now, that some of you have it worse than me. My heart goes out to all of you.

Hi there!
My name's Courtney, i'm 21, and from Canada. I was diagnosed December 28th, 2008 with diabetic ketoacidocis, and dangerously low potassium, which is an electrolyte. They diagnosed me as Type 2, and i'm currently taking metformin and insulin (although i'm almost weaned myself off the insulin now, and hoping to be off it completely by the summer, except for if I need it in emergencies).
To be honest, aside from one or two slip ups, this has been a breeze for me. I've had no troubles keeping my blood sugars in check, I can still eat & drink how I want (although I did give up the orange juice. All I drink now is crystal light/nestea and the occasional glass of pepsi maybe once a week, and I eat pretty healthy to begin with! But I do love my carbs, what can I say?)
I went into the hospital after 3 months of HELL. I started out with a nasty viral infection/meningitis, and it started going away, but then seemed to come back. I was constantly shakey, I didn't eat for two months, and lost over 70lbs, I was drinking upwards of 15 liters of water a DAY, and I was on the brink of passing out constantly. I also had horrible dry mouth, which was one of the worst symptoms. I couldn't sleep, talk, my tongue was hurting a lot. I also did some major damage to my right eye (i'm already legally blind in my left eye), and now i'm pretty nearsighted in my right eye due to the diabetes being untreated those couple months, and being on a constant high blood sugar level. Anyways, they told me if was a combination of my genetics (type 2 runs in my family), and the infection that triggered it, and because the only thing I could eat when I was sick was watermelon, and I drank a LOT of orange juice. Oops!
So that's my story.

I'm Shanna, and I was diagnosed with type 2 yesterday. I had no symptoms like drinking or urinating excessively but I have been getting wicked bad headaches for about a year. (The dr said that might be caused by sugar spikes). And I guess thats it. Not much else to report yet (even though I took my blood sugar like a PRO this morning, a minute flat!) Im glad to have this outlet.

HELLO:
I was dignosed with type one diabetes on December 6,2004, this will be my 5th or 6th year wit diabetes.just a couple of days after my big bro left for the navy i started to feel sick, i kept waking up in the middle of the night wit a huge headache almost like a migrain and i was feeling sick i couldnt get out of bed for awhile, i drank tons of water but that didnt help so a week after this i went into a coma for almost a month, i woke up in the hospital December 22, and didn't get out until Christmas Eve.
Well my name is Bonnie I'm livin a hard life, not letting anybody put me down because of my diabetes until i don't care what they think, I have a father who is a type 2 diabetic but for i'm a type 1. well it's nice all of ya luv to talk to anybody and hoping i can get some rlly good advice.^^

Hello there. My name is Haylee and I have had type one diabetes for 4 years now. I of course, lost weight, drank water like it was air, and couldn't count how many times I went to the bathroom. After that I had an insulin pen for Novilog/Lantus for 3 years, and just this year got my insulin pump, which has been like heaven on earth. That's about all I can think of sharing. I would also be happy to share anything you need to know about diabetes if you are new or just don't know.

Hi ^^. My name is Emily and I have type 1 diabetes. I was born with the disease but doctors refused to test me. I grew up normally for a while and than I forgot how to walk and talk and other such things. I guess one day it got really bad so my mother rushed me to the hospital and she forced them to test me and guess what I had it so I was officially diagnosed at 23 months old. I really don't know what life is without diabetes but I guess its a good thing since I can't miss a better past. Right now I'm on the insulin pump and I also have one of the newer devices which they refer to as a sensor (You insert it into the fatty layer of the skin and it gives you your readings). I'm more than happy to talk to anyone about anything ^^

Hi there, my name is Rob, I'm 21 from the UK
I'm actually not a diabetic, but I study medicine, and am hoping to train as a family doctor.
My mum has Type 2 Diabetes (in my posts you may see me write DM1 or DM2), and I'm quite likely to develop it, even though Im not too unhealthy.
Anyhow, I'm not here to rant at you about numbers and diet ... but if you feel like you could just chat to someone a little in the know, then I'm your guy.

Hey I'm Jennah. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on Janurary 21st,2001(my 7th birthday) I actually was being very bitchy the day before I found out I had diabetes. I actually don't remeber the day I got diagnosed very well but I do remeber passing out. I know after that I was rushed to the hospital where I was later diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I woke up and the nurse told me I had type 1 diabetes and I liturally started crying cause I was scared cause I didn't know what it was. The docter later explained to me what diabetes was and then I learned how to manage my diabetes. My mom told me for the first time that she had diabetes herself and that my dad was a pre-diabetic. But they later died.(not from diabetes) When I first went back to school after I was diagnosed I met Kat(who is now the bestest friend ever). She's now the one who helps me manage my diabetes daily. She alway's goes to the nurse with me. Makes sure I feel ok. Notices when I feel low. She knows it all basicly so shes my diabetic helper basicly xD She's not diabetic herself but whatever. I still love her as my sister

Hi everyone. I'm CeCe. I'm 20 years old and I'm not diabetic. (at least I don't think so) My aunt and grandma were diagnosed with diabetes along with my father. I did see my doctor June 18th after I had a hypoglycemic episode. I still didn't get a call about my results so I guess I'm okay.

I was diagnosed 3-4months ago with Type 1 Diabetes.
So yeah. Not much to say.
I was 16 when I was diagnosed, going to be 17 in a matter of days.
Well. Yeah... Im happy to talk to people. It can get a tad lonely at this point in time..

I was diagnosed with type1 diabetes about 10 days ago.
I had all the classic signs (drinkning and peeing alot) and when i went to a friends house i had alot of sugar and passed out the next morning. My parents took my to the doctor and i got a blood test. I was then shipped out to the hospital where i was given another blood test and then i was told i had diabetes. i just got out of the hospital 6 days ago and already i feel better then i have in months.

Hello. I'm Maggie. I was diagnosed in spring of 2008 at age 17 with both Type 1 and Type 2. My mom is pre-diabetic so she when she noticed I was drinking a lot of water, peeing frequently and always tired, she had me check the glucose level on her meter. I have always been overweight so the doctor mainly thought I was Type 2 so I didn't get started on insulin until a year later (stupid really). I was on Metformin for a while but it wasn't really helping and it made my stomach upset so I asked the doctor if I could stop taking it. He then put me on Lantus but that didn't stop the spikes. I am currently using the Lantus and Novolog pens and will hopefully be getting a pump sometime soonish. I have been hospitalized once for DKA, this past summer.
Currently, I am still a little flakey about checking my sugars and taking Novolog before each meal but I am getting better. I live with my parents and my husband and will hopefully be going to college soon.
