`Sp!ffy I think it all depends on what happens before its half-empty half-full.
Its half empty if you pour half of it out. It's half full if you fill it half way.
>:D What if you fill it three-fourths of the way and the pour out a third of it? o___O

Eh? My math was off? I just did it really quickly.
Wait. Yes. My math WAS off. I shouldn't do math while half asleep. For some reason I was thinking you poured out 2/3rds of the remainder.
Assuming a glass is 4 inches tall on the inside, 3/4ths is 3 inches. Pour out 1/3 of that and you have 2 inches, which is half of the glass. You poured it out though, so its half empty.

It depends if the 1/3rd is of the glass or of the liquid inside.

Well, I meant you pour out a third of the liquid xD.
What about this, then:
You have a glass partitioned into two halves... one half you leave empty, one half fill completely. Now you drain to half-full the full half and fill to half-empty the empty half, and remove the partition.
...What now?

Someone already said this, but I'm going to say it as well. It all depends on how it was made that way. If you just drank from it, that would make it half-empty. If you just poured something in it, that would make it half-full.
And I think for your mental state, it would all depend on how you were feeling. The same situation for you could be different for someone else. And all situations are different. You could feel "half-full" in one situation and totally feel "half-empty" on something else.
At least that's how I am ^^

Everything is a balance I guess it would depend on how your day has been to show your outlook on life. Or... Somone has been drinking whatever was in your cup without you noticing it. (ewww)

Who cares? It's poisoned!
rofl Sorry, couldn't resist quoting a friend of mine. In one way it shows the true idea of pessimism. After all, a pessimist wouldn't merely wonder if a glass was empty or full... but why it was sitting there taunting him/her.

I say it's a drink. Haha. I never say it's half full or half empty. I just look at it, take a swig and then look at it again. Look, it's still a drink.
Does that make sense?

To answer the simple pessimist/optimist aspect, it is half empty.
Better to be pessimistic and get surprised than to be optimistic and get disappointed.
Even if the glass was completely empty before it got half full everything that comes up usually goes back down.

Well if we were talking about a glass or something, then I would say half empty.
If we were speaking of it in a symbolic way, depends.

aiden.the.panda Half-Full- You'll be pleasantly surprised when life ******** you over Half-Empty- Well I guess your a** saw it coming didn't you By your definition, I'm an optimist. Which makes it odd, since my stance is realist. Hope for the best, expect the worst. If good things happen to me, its awesome. If bad things happen to me, oddly enough, I find humor in it. Though maybe that's masochism on a non-physical level? o-o
