Asher screamed again as another soldier stabbed him in the back, turning around he sliced off the man's head. Suddenly above them the tinkling of icicles as they clinked together could be heard above the shouts of men and wolves. All fighting seemed to slow, looking up Asher watched in fear his mind fighting to clear away the haze over his thoughts. Pictures of Elanor flew through his mind, all he could think about was saving her, regrets, doubts, love, and underneath that overwhelming rage that he couldn't find be there to take care of her when she needed him most.

Ramza ran to the girl, "I'm sorry about all of this" he apologized, Asher had clearly lost his mind. he picked her up and ran to the entrance, warning as many of the mages that he could of the icicles that were overhead, and the risk they ran by remaining. He made it out and set her down, "damn...he still has the key...." he looked back to the girl, "here, use this if any danger comes and get away as fast as you can" he handed her a scroll for a higher leveled fire spell and ran back inside. He was happy to keep a one scroll in each sleeve, one a fire, the other a return spell to take him back to Nacirem, it wasn't until he ran back to Asher that he wondered who that girl was, an NPC? a player? its not often you see a little girl in a place like this. "ASHER!" he yelled to his superior, hoping to bring him to his senses, "you have the key, we can leave, we don't need to fight these people!" he reasoned, noting Ashers wounds and remembering he had the item satchel with the rest of the scrolls in it, he had an idea, maybe he could lure Asher to the entrance and use the return scroll he had hidden, that would take them to their root town, they could figure out who the girl was and what had happened to Asher, but then that left the soldiers to their death. "fine then I guess..." Ramza attacked ASher again, he didn't need to kill him, but if he could get his item satchel back, he could throw a few of the soldiers some return scrolls and they could all leave. hopefully.

He stumbled, where was he? The girl? The key? Oh god, he couldn't think it hurt, it hurt, Elanor, i'm sorry. Oh it hurts! He was losing his hold, the haze it was darkening his vision, Ramza then all there was was shadows.

Asher fell to his knees, beneath the blows, it seemed that he would finally fall. Then the key came to life, it blazed with a harsh light that threw the icy cave into contrast. "This is not the one who will open the door. Ruled by the futile love for his child, he is old and weak. He cannot rule the keys, none can rule." The voice was the one who had screamed with Asher before now it was only the one voice it seemed screaming at them through Asher. He ripped out the arrow and placed the key around his neck. Around the group there was the sound of glass shattering in an explosion could be heard. The barrier had been literally incinerated. The posessed Asher laughed again and floated up into the air, with a sweep of his arm he brought in a torrent of wind and snow hurling through the caverns sweeping men from all sides off their feet.

The winds were just too much for the icicles and they dropped to the floor shattering on the ice. He laughed as men scrambled out of the way. "All shall perish." He threw in more winds blocking the escape. "All shall perish!" he cried out in joy.

The roof began to crack and more icicles began falling some of them gigantic. They pierced the ice and left gaping holes where the careless could fall in. Suddenly above Asher there was a great sound he looked up just in time to see the great stalagtite fall on top of him. It hit him just below the chest and before he knew it he was thrown to the ground and the huge icicle was sticking straight out of his chest. At the same time everything became dead quiet.

Ramza picked himself up from the rubble, he was badly hurt, "urrgghh" he groaned as he stood and looked around, and near the center of the lake, stood an impaled Asher, "what the....CAPTAIN!" he yelled as he ran to the man, he was gone, clenched in his hand was the key, he took it and his satchel. he looked at the captain with a mix of sorrow and pity, around him were the bodies of the rest of the squadron. He said a prayer for them and started walking out of the cave, halfway towards the entrance, he fell upon his knees, he hadn't realized how injured he was, blood ran down the side of his head, his knees were weak, he was bleeding all over. "damn..." he stalked his way out, the return scroll clenched in one hand and the key in the other. He saw the girl from the cave, picked her up and used the scroll, he would reappear in Nacirem.

While the icicles fell to the ground, many of the men tried to escape. Some succeeded, while others fell to Asher's madness. Only when the choas ended and Ramza teleported to Nacirem, did the remaining Harbringers return to the lake. They approached bodies with caution, unsure if they were, 1, alive, and 2, dangerous, whether they were alive or not.

((Ag. Sorry for the abruptness of it all. I'm being kicked off and i don't have time to save it.))

(no prob see ya later. mrgreen )

A rugged breath ensued from Asher's chest. "Elanor, I'm so sorry." Tears ran unheeded down his face mixing with the blood that had somehow splattered on his face. When a man approached him he grabbed his leg. "Please, help me."

The men, after a moments hesitation, picked Asher up and, after gathering their own along with the few survivors, brought them into the caves. Passing under a particularly large stone, they found themselves inside the headquarters of the Harbingers of Destiny. They took Ashe to their equivalent of a hospital, where several healers began to work on getting the icicle out of his chest without killing his virtual body.

In the mean time, Lady Ishara was being informed on what had happened.

Asher drifted in and out of conciousness all the while his mind was filled with thoughts of his people. Anger, and betrayal, they turned on him, he had found it and they had been driven over with jealousy, and rage. His mind flitted over the scenes. Ramza always Ramza the queen's new favorite.

The healers had succesfully extracted the icicle from Asher's chest without damaging any other ograns. They had closed the wound but hadn't healed it completyly. It was something of a policy of theirs when it came to strangers.

Ishara visited as often as she could, which wasn't often as she was busy keeping the Harbringers from seeking blood. Many were upset by what they called an invasion, and she was burdened with trying to find out why the group-which they all believed were under the orders of the Elite-had come to they mountains, and what happened to the girl. So far, they knew that two people had used a scroll to teleport to Nacirem, but they didn't know who they were.

The light from the windows above awoke him. Immediately he was aware that he wasn't in his own bed. Looking around quickly he cursed quietly his weapons were nowhere to be seen. Neither was the key or his little owl Seras. He tried sitting up, and even that small action made sweat break out upon his brow. He was still too weak! Opening his shirt, Asher saw the giant scar left by the icicle. The healers here were skilled and apparently the lady Ishaara knew what she was doing by telling them not to fully heal him. Well, he would heal soon enough, it was still surprising he didn't think they would help him.

To the right of Asher was a chair and nightstand, both of which seemed to be relatively comfortable. Farther along the wall, which was a strange mixture of wood panels and stone, was the window that let in a light that shone only because of magic. At the foot of Asher's bed was a rug, neither thin nor thick. Directly infront of him was a fire place with a fire burning brightly from it. To his left, was the only door in and out of the room. Along the walls were several paintings; some brightly colored, others rather muted. The over-all tone of the room was actually pleasent, though simple. The air was warm, but held a strange crispness to it.

At length, Ishara came and opened the door to the room, finding the man awake. "Hello." she adressed him, fully entering the room as she did so.

"What do you want," he adopted a bored look as she came in. Folding his arms he looked the lady up and down. Not a bad figure really. Probably a new nurse in his time here he'd chased out two nurses already.

Ishara tilted her head slightly to the right and stared at him, as if she didn't understand the question. Finally, she replied with a question of her own. "Why do you think I'm here?" She walked over and stood at the foot of his bed, her arms hanging at her sides.

"Oh, I thought you were here to have tea and crumpets." he said smiling sweetly. However, his eyes were still a hard piercing yellow that stared at her unblinking.

"I'm not, but that would have been a good idea." Ashira said with a smile. "Have you slept well?" She was burning to ask him several, more blunt, questions such as why he had come with the group to Avernon, and why he attacked everyone, but she resisted.
