considering choicers consider themselves (however erroneously) to be mindful of people's choices, i doubt even they would consider allowing a parent to force an abortion on their child.

MiNdCaNdY considering choicers consider themselves (however erroneously) to be mindful of people's choices, i doubt even they would consider allowing a parent to force an abortion on their child. "I am the mother of a 12-year-old girl and I can tell you unequivocally that if my daughter was pregnant, I would take her kicking and screaming to have an abortion." Ellen Barkin "Her husband, partner, or parent wants her to have an abortion." Planned Parenthood, one of their reasons why women have abortions. Hmm. Sorry, getting off track, but, "A safe, uncomplicated, legal abortion does not affect a woman's ability to have children in the future." But a safe, uncomplicated ILLEGAL abortion DOES! Seriously. What is up with adding in the legal? Either it's safe an uncomplicated, or it isn't. Whether or not it's legal is another matter. Osht look at this one. http://www.teenwire.com/ask/2005/as-20050121p949-abortion.php "People who are anti-choice oppose abortion and often call themselves pro-life. " Way to go teenwire. Educating teens using biased means. What will you think of next, you crazy devils? Gah. Why am I on teenwire?

Some people support parents bringing their daughter to get an abortion but do not support parental consent laws!? I know not every choicer is like that, but is that one of the things you are stating?

Some people do, because they believe that abortion will save a girl's life and that if she doesn't take it, it's because she's not mature enough and doesn't understand what she's doing.
I'm not saying everyone...I'm not even saying MOST everyone....who is prochoice says this. But there are some who do.

It would be idiotic to think what I mentioned was fine and dandy, seriously. Though another thing in your post was about a mother forcing an abortion. Quote: am the mother of a 12-year-old girl and I can tell you unequivocally that if my daughter was pregnant, I would take her kicking and screaming to have an abortion." Ellen Barkin I know that is highly illegal, and if not should be :/

It's illegal. But she's an actress. I guess she's above the law.
And illegal or not, it happens.

O_o I haven't met any 'choicers like that. I must have met all the sane ones.
Yeesh, does that actress even have a daughter? I wonder what her daughter thought if/when she saw that comment? Personally, I'd get . . . what's the fancy word for cutting yourself off . . . emancipated? Might not have spelt that correctly. In any case, I'd be gone like the wind.

I'm pretty sure that forcing your child to kill someone is considered a form of abuse.

So, why does it ever stop being a violation of privacy? How is it anyone's business that I had a child last year? Why does he require a birth certificate? It's violating his privacy and mine.

Rilian So, why does it ever stop being a violation of privacy? How is it anyone's business that I had a child last year? Why does he require a birth certificate? It's violating his privacy and mine. See, that's kind of how I feel about the "invasion of privacy" crap. If you can't hide the fact that a child was born to you, then why is it invasion of privacy to force the fact that you killed a child into the public record? However, I still agree with Kate that it is, overall, an ineffective money waster.

If we did away with all birth-certificates, then maybe we'd have enough money to print everything else in both english and spanish.

Yes, but there's more of a reason to have birth certificates than there is to have death certificates for aborted fetuses. The only reason to have abortion certificates is to track statistics, and the only reason for those statistics is to make a point in a debate. Birth certificates are useful so that one can tell how old a person is, whether they actually exist (for voting), etc.

It's also wasted money because it'll never pass. It's wasting time and money on this legislation which could be better spent working on different things. It's not a smart move politically; it'll just convince fencers we're only interested in haunting women about abortions they've had.

The difference between legal and illegal abortions is that illegal abortions are pretty much always performed without the proper equipment, without sterilisation, without anything at all useful for reducing risk. Would you expect a doctor to just open up his/her surgery to illegal abortions? No, it would be done somewhere without a doctor, without equipment, and so on. Or they could just throw themselves downstairs in an effort to get rid of it - although I heard something about a recent law that would make that illegal, too. Something like 'helping miscarriage'.
