MegaTherion777 on the subject of censorship, has anyone noticed how faulty the gaia language censor is? it edits the word ********, but put -ing on the end and it slips right through. ********. see? it edits p***s and v****a too, and those are not generally considered offensive terms. i can list offensive terms for those body parts (as im sure we all can) that would make people slap me. but those terms themselves aren't usually considered offensive. just a thought are you sure it edits the terms? because I can see them clearly in your post and so in mine about the other censorship matter... i don't know... i wish i would be in disagreement with myself too, but it's hard... people are lazy, you got that right, and that's the reason the censors came to be, and the reason they will keep on being... regretfully. Of course, the PMRC tickets have ment nothing but a boost of sales for the artists who proudly display them

maybe you have some filter i don't?
anyways, on a more important note: have anyone seen the movie "America: From Freedom To Fascism"?
I thought it was awesomely insightful on the problems of your country is suffering today, and also really predictable of the problems of the future.
Even if you are not interested in politics, you should watch this movie; because, as I concluded when I finished watching it: it's you who can make an adult choice and a difference, if you wish to grow up on thought and be adults about this all.
I can say I LOLed quite hard at how your government deceits you people, but it also got me worried. Of course my gov deceits me too, but there's a limit to everything xd

Yeah, it's a shame that people have the ability to make the world a much better place and just don't. I think that it should be issued that parents must monitor what their children watch and listen to, but I think warning labels on album covers are good. This way you can listen to something that could be potentially inappropriate, without having to listen to and watch everything your children want to buy.
As far as the Sex thread, I think it'd be fun. >.>; We just gotta keep it Pg-13, and I'm pretty sure discussions involving correct terms would be ok. :3
As far as the boobs thread, that's just a fun thread for the showing of bewbs. XD Not serious discussion. It prolly won't be active until the number of active female members return a bit. :3

Also the trials and spy hunts that went on, putting people on trial for being unamerican. It was punishable, I think, to not like baseball. And now during the current war, the President is doing unconstitutional things in the name of "safety". Things that Nixon got impeached for, the president does them during his lunch break. x.X; America has the potential to be a great place, but never underestimate the potential of stupid people in extremely large groups.

I'm actually glad most citizens of the world don't want to be like the U.S.
I think it was the Al Gore movie that put out the statistic that if the whole world would live life as in the U.S., we would need 7 planet earths to explode it's resources.
I just don't get many things about your country. There has been lots of manifestations against your current administration, and ENORMOUS ones that is. But nothing has been done. Nothing changed. Because it seems decision is not on the people (as it really is) but in congress, which represents people, idealistically speaking, but most of the time it just represents many lobbysts' interests.
In my country we had a moderately big economical crisis, with riots here and there, theft, and repression from the police.
We had many economical crisis, but I'm speaking of the only one I remember, in 2001 (the previous one was in 1986). I saw the whole thing by news broadcasts, and the people was just as angry as ********. Because the banks liquidated lots of money, they couldn't pay their customers, many went broke, we raised the poverty percentage to 52 % (now being at 13 %). That's more than a half of the country living in poverty.
Anyways, peaceful rioting and some violent rioting made people angry, manifestations all across the country... pot-bangings, candle lightnings, whatever... the people in the manifestations against the government did so in front of our White House and spent days sleeping on the streets in front of it to show disaproval.
We achieved something: After 3 days, the current administration resigned and was legaly charged for various felonies. It took us lots of years to get back on track (some 4 years, for sure), and now we are above average again.
Why isn't this happening in America? It NEVER happened, to my knowledge and it should've happened so many times.
Goethe said something like this : "they are the most enslaved, those who live under the illusion of freedom"

it's actually sad that the "1st world" countries think that all the activities I described are reserved for "3rd world" "savages".
Riots, fights for rights, expression of liberties, demands of justice, taking it on the stomach from the local authorities to make a point, to stand for something and try and not let the government ******** you in the piehole.
This are all activities viewed as "troubles" from "troubled" countries, when they should be viewed as solutions to the imposition of the unwanted from those who are supposed to represent us in will.
If you said something like this some twenty years ago you'd be stoned for commie. I am a right-winger, I believe communism and leftist factions are utopias that will always lead to failure because they are applied out of context, the very same context they were invented for. If we should have a left wing party rule upon us I'd prefer one with a mid-left political view (such as the Tony Blair worker's party... but done right) and a Schumpeterian view on the work process and economy.
That'd be almost idealistic.
I know americans who sit on their asses on their comfty couches, feets and hands grilled to the floor, and think "poor nigros in the third world, I wish they'd be like us", while they choke down on "food" (stretch the sarcasm of this word as much as you can), blinded by the TV-static which repeats how cool America is because you can live free until you question the very chains that hold you down and are represed for it by society.
Sorry for the little rant but it comes from the heart >_> i feel sorry for some "americans", actually, while they feel sorry for "us" xd
In my view : The U.S. = shut up + close your eyes + spread your buttcheeks = happiness.
Too bad that was supposed to be the land of hope and freedom; and oportunity to everyone >_>. Thomas Jefferson would be revolving in his coffin xd

and im pretty sure thomas paine is spinning right along with him...
anyway - clasi you made a point about the obviously flase propaganda a while back. one example was the movies saying that hiding under a desk would shield you from a nuclear blast. the government has told a lot of lies, but things like the fallout shelters and those movies (both of which are from the 50s) came around at a time when not much was known about nuclear weaponry. they may not be out and out lies, but rather a spreading of information that looks foolish now. because remember, hindsight is always 20/20. thats not to say the gov't isnt lying and hasnt lied, because i believe EVERY gov't is full of deceit. im just saying that not EVERYTHING is lies, even if it is later proved false.
tech - you've raised some good points. but i want to respond to your comment about the al gore movie - i assume you mean "an inconvenient truth". i have not seen this movie, and i have not studied global warming, so this may seem like uninformed drivel, but it is a FACT that gore cited scientific studies in his movie, and that many of those studies have been recently discredited as false. not sure how that affects the "seven planets" thing, just thought id point out that little known fact. i know we're burning thru the planets recources fast, but i have suspicions that gore may have exaggerated.
also i want to point out that the earth naturally goes thru climate change. in the 60s and 70s, people were worried about global cooling - they were just as scared of a second ice age as we now are of the ice caps melting, in fact. it has not been proven that humans are having a huge effect on global warming - certainly our cars and SUVs do make it worse, but there is a large body of evidence suggesting that the problem wouldn't be much better if we all rode bikes everywhere.
dont flame me for not believing in global warming. i do think it is a problem, i just think that both sides of the issue need to be fairly represented, so that is what im doing. i guess you could say im playing devils advocate.
anyway, about the actual POLITICS, ive said it before and ill say it again. i believe government is evil, but a necessary evil. i believe that small government is better than big government. thus i agree with jefferson and paine, not with alexander hamilton and the federalists. i guess you could call me a libertarian, although my views dont exactly fit the bill. i dont agree with our current government, but i dont think the democrats could offer a better way of life. in fact i think bipartisan politics is stupid, because everyone is so busy trying to please their party that nothing ever gets accomplished.

The exageration of the Gore speech would be a big relief to me.
I recommend you see the movie, really.
Gore addresses the same counterpoint you made about the cycles and stuff, and shows a statistic which demonstrates how big was the climate changes in the cycles before, and how big it is now, it literaly goes off the charts of his presentation.
I wouldn't be impressed if Gore exagerated a bit. And I don't mind exageration on this matter, because exageration will sooner or later become reality, and if exageration is what it takes to turn the head around of sufficient people to address this as a serious issue, then so be it.
I also wouldn't be impressed if the ruling administration payed off scientists to make Al Gore look like an idiot. Since they were the ones to strike out the Kyoto protocol and are the biggest poluters of the ambience in the whole world.
I wouldn't embrace Gore's speech totaly like a new-breed conciousness. But less would I trust "investigations" that say this isn't true. It's been done before.
I really recomend you watch the film.

It's been done before. perhaps i should explain. gore used old studies that had been disproven before the movie was even in the making. while he was researching, before hed even announced the plans, these new studies came out, but he didnt use em cuz they didnt support his ideas. plus, the studies weren't all done in the USA. some came from there, but a bunch came from outside the US as well. while its still feasible, it is highly unlikely that anyone was paid off

About propaganda, it wasn't just during the cold war, it was also when they first outlawed Marujana[sp?]. Claiming it caused the "Marjuana[sp?] Crazies" which made you go berserk and kill people. I think anyone who has ever tried it knows this to be blatantly false. Just as the current propaganda which shows a group of people high, and they just stare into space... Again... That is not what you do when high.
Things that are wrong with U.S. law:
First and foremost, Abortion is legal in all states, but the states will not provide funding for such. Therefore, the purpose of abortion being legalised [freedom and equality, and placing a mother's well-being and rights before the child's] is totally nullified. Abortions are expensive, and low-income women, or underage women cannot afford abortion. This means that the right to a safe, clean abortion is nearly exclusively granted to wealthy women, while poor women must risk their life performing a backyard abortion themselves. Statistics show that lack of safe abortions have never stopped a desperate woman, and the same women who can't afford abortions are on some sort of federal assistance, and so will the child. It's not as though the tax payers will be paying extra for an abortion, in fact they'll be saving lives as well as money. :3
Another thing is that even though there is supposed to be seperation of church and state, but the only opposition to things like Homosexual marriage and abortion are religious ones. This is blatant bullshit, and it pisses me off just thinking about it. stressed
Another thing is homosexual marriage. Why were people allowed to vote to allow this or ban it? Is it effecting them in any way? Will it stop homosexual relationships some how? Is it any of their business anyway? No, no, and more no. stressed The constitution gaurentees equal rights, so if straight people can marry, why shouldn't anyone else be allowed to? Its a very simple thing to grasp, I think. :/
Censorship. Get rid of it, and let the parents do their job.
Government. You know why we haven't done anything, Pabz? Because we can't. Anyone who starts a riot will get arrested. A million people can protest, and nothing will be done. The problem is that this is not a democratic country... The richest guy with the most ties gets in office. Bottom line. He doesn't win popular vote? Oh well... He gets put in office anyhow. The country is completely dominated by rich people who are more often than not religious.
Minority treatment. Minorities actually have more rights than anyone. White men are the only oppressed people, to be honest. A black men beats up a white man, it was assault, a white man beats up a black man, it's a hate crime. A middle class black kid can easily get grants simply for being black. Meanwhile his white friend who has the same financial standings gets nothing. He's not poor enough to get grants for that, and not smart enough to get a scholarship. :/ Also, women are still rallying for rights, and they have more than men. Do women get drafted? No. I don't see any protesting about that. I also don't see any protesting about the fact that in the workforce, a woman in a lifting job is not required to lift as much as a man with the same position. If a man beats up a woman, he gets punished far more than Vice Versa. Also, you will get sued by your female coworker for telling the same joke that you told to your male coworker on the job.
Drugs and Alchohol. First of all they're both taxed more heavily than anything else, which I find to be pure bullshit. Second, the legal drinking age is 21, while the draft age is 18. I can be sent to die, but I can't drink. Again, bullshit... Ok, and here is a big issue... Marajuana[sp?]. It should absolutely be legal. Not only is it less harmful than alchohol, but it isn't addictive, and it's a leading cash crop in the world. The U.S. doesn't really take this issue seriously, but it is. One can be imprisoned for selling Marajuana for longer than one can be for molesting children.
These are the things that I hate about the U.S. or some of them anyway...
