Lemme explain so you'll get it. All major organized religions are nothing but hypocrites & blastphemous lunatics who want to control masses through fear of their own immortal soul. No God came down to this hellish planet to set rules & guidelines for us to live by.

I got the "all organized religion is crap", I was more focused in understanding the "its just the ideas of mortals" hehe.

Blastphemous is not a word, you mean "blasphemous" (i'm not trying to pick on you, just correcting a typo or a language mistake); and by definition, "blasphemous lunatics" can't be blasphemous if they don't have something to desecrate, because there is nothing sacred, according to your definition.

You say "all organized religions are crap", so do you believe in a higher power we should worship? Because, your statement leaves out "unnorganized religions".

You do believe in an immortal soul, for what I gather from your explanation... you also believe that there's anarchy in religion, imposing control by a set of man-made rules.

And I agree with you, I was just searching for more of a scholar-type of statement rather than the word "crap".

For example, do you know that the 10 commandments were written around the 10th Century? (I'd oscilate from the 7th century to the 13th, nothing out those years.. but I just can't remember too well).

Organized religions, though, are not total "crap", they give meaning and organize reality for a LOT of people. Are their rulers hypocrites? Yes, most of the time; is religion for weak people? Nah... just most of them wish to rely on the teaching of others rather than search for their own, thus making their spirits great by their own teachings and learnings rather than mirroring those of a person of which history shows no registry of.

So, is organized religion the best choise? For some people, yes it is; because they can't be anything else than that... and a human being should be what it can be; some of us can have disertations, some can't... some of us can be what WE can be, not better, not bigger, nor brighter; we just have our own potential, so organized religion is not the best choise for us.

In a nutshell, im trying to base my post in an important fundation: respect

They are lunatics, they are willing to kill, maim & slaughter those who don't abide by their rules & guidelines.

Organized religion as a whole is good for some but not for all. I just don't think you need a priest/rabbi/whatever, telling you what you can & cannot do in Life. Most ppl are born with the innate ability to know right from wrong.

I used crap because too many organized religions are the "right" one and if you're not it, you're going to Hell or somewhere awful.

I do believe in an immortal soul but I also know that God or whoever knows how we feel, think, etc. & you don't need to belong to a big organized religion to get into Heaven.

I think its more important to be spiritual than religious

True to that... i was just worried because many people tend to use the word "crap" without any real backing argument or knowledge; so i was just checking... this doesn't apply to you, evidently; but still, many people who follow a religion are more open-minded and clever than most of us think... but still there are ignorants who are just as you described; with them, a religious debate is imposible, because they are full of "faith", in the Nietzschean way. "Is religion for weak people?" I believe it is. Or rather, people who are afraid. They can't stand the idea of not knowing the answer, or the possibility that there isn't one. So they tell tales of gods, and set guildlines that attempt to make them good people, but you can't force someone to be a ginuinly good person, they have to find their own answers. That is why a great deal of Christian people in this country are horrible people. People who will attack you if you wear a satan costume as a prank, or hate you if you're different.

In life, we must all find our own reasons, instead of having them spoonfed to us by someone else.

Okay, I'm back.
Why I believe in Christianity:
1. In the Bible it says that before the end times, Israel will reemerge as a Nation, there will be two great wars, bigger than any others, the world will be against Israel, and the gospel will be spread throughout the world. Israel emerged as a Nation 50-60 years ago, WWI and WWII, everyone either wants Israel blown off the face of the map or doesn't support their war efforts against the Palestinians, and the Gospel has been preached in every part of the world. Man did Jesus call that one...
2. In the Bible it says that Adam was created from dust, and every element found in the human body can be found in dirt, coincidence? I think not.
3. The probability that DNA would create the line of Amino Acid's that form the proteins that make the eye is over 10 to the 150,000,000 power to one, and anything above 10 to the 50,000 power to one is impossible, so how then, did they line up just right, it IS statistically impossible.
4. The theory of evolution defies the second law of Thermodynamics, that you can't create something out of nothing, so how did the first cell come about? It is against the very laws of physics. no scientist has been able to answer this. And what if this big ball of matter that the Big Bang theory speaks of? Where did that come from? That defies the laws of physics as well. In the words of the not-so-great SOAD, "Science has failed our world, science has failed our mother earth, Science fails to recognize the single most, potent element of human existence, letting the reigns go, to the unfolding is Faith, Faith, Faith"
5. A personal story:
A friend of mine has a relative that, 3 months ago, had a baby. He had a very rare genetic defect effecting his heart. He was put on a machine for a while, and recently found a heart donor. He had the surgery done, and the family asked that everyone prayed for him. The baby showed signs of Acute Rejection, giving him, what the doctors said, is less than 10% chance of survival, which in doctor language translates to "No chance". The family and everyone prayed harder. They did a series of tests and gave a "grade" on the functionality of the heart, and received an F, and within a week, it was raised to a B+, and the doctors said "whatever your doing, keep it up", referring to the strong prayer. Within the last week they took him off the machine entirely, closed up his chest without any infections (his chest has been open for about 2-3 weeks, and he was on medicine that basically shuts down the immune system so that it accepts the heart.) and he is doing great now. Now you read that and tell me there wasn't something else at work.

1. That doesn't prove anything. Anyone can draw coincidences from the bible, or any manor of prediction. A fortune cookie new that I was going through the hardest time of my life, but I didn't think anything of it. Coincidences happen.
2. I do. This more heavily supports the theory that we were born from the earth, not that we were magically put together.
3. Can you give me a reference to this statement? I'm pretty sure that they know about 2% about humans as a whole, mainly because of our complex brains and gentics. That statistic can't be true simply because they have no idea what human dna is capible of conceiving.
4. This statement is blatantly false. There is evidence that when the earth was forming, chemicals created from the forming atmosphere as a result of the mass volcanic eruptions and rapid warming and cooling that water was beginning to form, and within the water it was made possible for the first single cellular organism to form from non-living chemicals and elements. And if you want to ask where this all came from, who created God? If he has always been, why is it any less probable that the universe has always been?
5. Once again, coincidences happen. It's very conveiniant to think that there is a father who protects us, and who created us out of love, but none of the things you've said identifies as concrete proof in the least bit. I'm not saying that there's not a possibility that god exisists, but keep in mind that there's an alternate, and often more reasonable explination than "God".
PostPosted: Mon Feb 12, 2007 7:19 am

I think Clasi just covered everything that was to cover... if I have something to add is about the DNA capability and the usage of statistic to condemn it.

You see, I've already stated as a belief of mine that science acts today as the new religion... it's probably a bit more convincing that a faith-based religion, since the demands of an empirical demostration of beliefs is not only satisfied in most cased, but demanded to be part of the "scientific community".

Statistics are man-made science of probability and error, of quantities and expresion. The only perfect thing in this world is nature, not mankind. So any man-made belief that tryies to discredit nature will surely end up overthrown by the same superiority that this "enemy" has by definition.

I still don't think that religion is for the weak. It'd be like saying that metal is for wackos, social outcasts, sociopaths and killers; that a guy killed a couple back in the 80s to the tune of a Metallica song doesn't mean that we'll all do it; that social outcasts are driven to like some agressive music doesn't mean we all are; and that some (lots of) people in the U.S. are pricks doesn't mean that you all are, as it doesn't mean that in Latin America we're all poor, bean-hungry, rice niggers.

Stereotypically, religious people are weak minded and spoonfed; but let's not be driven by stereotypes (though it's almost impossible), and try to set the scores even: There are lots of jesus loving religious bowshiters and morons, as much as there are clever, intelligent people that have made their choice to follow a certain creed and don't let their beliefs get in the way of their daily life.

As for predictions... that was the weakest statement of them all... Nostradamus also aledgedly claimed that "two brothers would fall in the great empire".. people didn't thought that it was the Roman empire, nor that the two brothers were actually two of the long list of roman emperors that were blood bound and failed to give to the great Rome a sort of visible progress for which they were executed or destituted.

No, it had to be the World Trade Center and the empire had to be the U.S. Not taking into consideration that these writtings were largely questioned because their originality was absolutely doubtful.

Still, there is a psychological explanation for why you find predictions everywhere you want to find them, and it's the same explanation to why you sometimes feel that future was rightfully predicted when you read your Zodiac.

As I said before, if religion works for you and makes you feel better, then more power to you; some of us like to find reason in life and it works for us and makes us feel better, more power for us.

There is no reason not to coexist.

I'm just saying this because it's true that most people (and religious folks are experts at this) will attack you when you question their faith, because if you punch hard enough, you'll find that behind that smoke curtain, there's emptyness.

Oh and as a last bite, I wanted to mention that philosophically, nothing can be created out of nothing, I've said this before... which leads us to believe that there wasn't "nothing" when we were created, but cells, micro organisms, parasites, etc.

I do remind you, dear Angel, that you are the one that believes that we were created out of nothingness (aka. the will of That who never died because he never lived, and never existed because he always did) , the world came to be, and thus came men.

Pwnt! X3 I can back clasi up on the volcano thing, very probable and it is what I beleive happened.

Yes, but where did the volcanoes come from? Clasi did not respond to where it came from in the beginning, give me a response to that. The Earth did not simply begin to exist, the universe did not simply begin to exist, that defies your precious science. And those are some highly specific coincidences. And the number one reason I believe is that I have felt God in person, I constantly feel that tap on the shoulder from him, I constantly feel him at Church, and unless you have felt it you cannot begin to understand that feeling. i don't care what theories scientists have come up with, I have felt it first hand.

This really has nothing to do with religion, per say, but I was reading Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

If the Big bang started life as we know it, then the Gnab Gib will end the universe. =D Douglas Adams is teh pwnage.

I think there's one last thing to add to the replies of Angel(as a generalization of the case of predictions): Sometimes, predictions, horoscopes and such are written in such a vague way that metaphors become appliable to almost every situation and every person, it will just become a matter of interpretation. By this I don't mean that it is impossible for them to have been meant to speak of the related event, but I say that it is equally possible that it is coincidence, once again, this is a matter of what one wants to believe in.

I understand your way to believe, and accept your way to think, we don't intend to change it, we just mean to speak out ours like you have spoken out yours. I do have a question? Have you carefully read how scientists say that universe and planets were formed, and how life began? The theories are well explained, and very clear, maybe some of the processes are hard to understand because of the vocabulary and ammount of knowledge you must posses, but they are understandble nonetheless.

This really has nothing to do with religion, per say, but I was reading Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

If the Big bang started life as we know it, then the Gnab Gib will end the universe. =D Douglas Adams is teh pwnage.

Yes he did, to an extent. The planet already had volcanoes, just like mars has volcanoes....volacnoes and other forms built up our atmosphere. I'm pretty sure everyone knows how volcanoes form. The earth's plates move...and when they collide...they cause earthquakes, sometimes they form mountains...and sometimes those mountains exert magma from deep within the earth's core.
