Sure. This is basically about the non-mainstream christians.

Huzzah! I am a beatnik, I take pride in evading main-stream culture! If eer I were to colide with the culture, I want it to be head on!

Most Christians are leery (is that the word I'm looking for?) of goths/kids wearing dark make-up, tons of piercings, the spiked collar look, etc. because of the attitude that usually comes with it. As long as your heart is in the right place, God doesn't care if you're wearing a calico hoop skirt or a black trenchcoat. The only thing he's worried about is if your heart is for Him and your attitude isn't depressed. And if you are emo but don't cut that is fine, because cutting is mutilating your body which God says is wrong. If you want the verse I can get it for you, but God DOES say our bodies are his temple and that we shouldn't mutilate ourselves. That's my go xD

Musical/stylistic subculture=/=symptom of mental disease.

I'm sure if one is depressed, God would want them to get help.

did you just say that people involved in musical and stylistic subcultures are mentaly ill? that's kinda sad. the way God helped me with my depression was the goth subculture. the ability to see the beauty of the dark side of humaity rather than be saddened and hurt by it makes life much easier.

Good point Lazarus, but like you, I suffer from manic depression/anxiety. You and I have learned to use it in a productive way. However usually if someone is a goth or similar they have had emotional wounds inflicted upon them. In fact if I wasn't constantly bullied as a kid (and still am) I may not have been as artistic as my current status. I came to the point in time were I almost committed suicide because of my emotional damage. That isn't to say that all artists are disfuntional to a degree, but the fact of the matter is most nowadays are.

We need to reach out to them with love, and if they are like us, maybe have them see a doctor do that maybe they could get some medication and or counseling for their problems. Because if someone hadn't stepped in to help me in my hour of need, I wouldn't be typing right now.

Jesus approved of cutting off of hands? Maybe as a punishment, but not out of depression or self pity. Our bodies are the Lords, and we should treat them as if they were! The Bible tells us to rejoice and make joyful noises unto God, be of good cheer, not wallow in our own self pity feeling sorry for ourselves and slicing our wrists.

Ummm Mary, I think you made a slight context flaw. In the verse I believe you were refering to Leviticus 19:28
" 'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.' " was at a point in time where many of the people were cutting themselves in worship of the dead. And were I do not see any logic in cutting yourself (it sends endorphins when they do this thus causing temporary euphoria to their depressed minds) as it causes terrible damage to oneself, I have yet to find a verse on it.
Also while lying in self-pity the devil is standing on your doorstep (as it usually results in selfish behavior), it in itself is some occasions difficult to avoid. Also the Bible tells us to be joyful, and no this does not mean wearing plastic smiles and laughing all the time. Just remember that God faithfully cares for his flock, and that he will not give you challenges you will be unable to bear.
And Light, the verse you were refering to about if your eye causes you to sin you should gouge it out? It was simply a metaphor meaning that if you give into a certain temptation over and over and wish to stop, you may need to give up something that may cause the temptation. (e.g. Say you had a porn site that you like viewing. If you keep it on your bookmark list then sooner or later you will be tempted. Temptation in itself is not a sin, however if you give into it, it is a sin. In repeatably making this error, you will want to get rid of the temptation altogether. Like blocking the site from your internet browser.)

Whether you like it or not you have in fact been dropping subtle hints throughout the site. Unfortunately I happen to be a bit more keen in interpreting these hints than others.

Maybe it was a context flaw, but if so, then it wasn't on my part, I was taking Light's word for it, so blame it on him, I'd never heard of cutting off of hands, even IF Jesus DID approve of it. o_o
