O's K's so is 'twould a real word? ....................wait................................................i saw it in a book this morning.................nvm ^_^ Weeelll.... Thats like asking if any of the various words shakespeare invented that are now commonplace are really words... twixt, tween, 'twould... I'd say its a real word... or at least its an abbreviation in slightly middle-esque english. I bring up shakespeare because of the infamy in shortening words to fit the pentameter, etc. he (or bacon.... whichever) always writes fix'd... ne'er .... ne'er is a good example... my question: at what point does it "officially" become a word? when it makes it into websters dictionary?

It's not a word, 'tis an abbreviation. And the great thing about, as you put it, middle-esque English is that there were no set spellings so one can it however one doth pleaseth most.

Speaking of this thing... I'm rereading some T.S. Eliot and noticed the word "wrapt" .... mixture between rapt and wrapped I assume... another not-word that is-word. Man that stuff is sooo deep, i love it! you say that its an abbreviation.... but... ah never mind it would get confusing trying to delve into the makings of a language in such company... (that meaning that we doth hail from different countries, and that last time I checked none of us actually were English majors... yet...)
